Description

An arranged marriage.

A fragile alliance.

A love neither dared to dream of.

Princess Jing Yi has spent her life in the shadows—unseen, unwanted, her only worth measured in the herbs she grinds and the patients she quietly saves. When she is sent to marry a powerful Alpha lord in a foreign kingdom, it is meant to be her escape. A chance at freedom. Dignity. Nothing more.

Lord Alexander Wulfbane expected the perfect Omega bride—a flawless match to repair his disgraced House. Instead, he is given a quiet, scarred princess from a crumbling empire. From the moment he lifts her veil, disappointment lies heavy between them, and the fragile peace their marriage secures is as uncertain as the vows they exchange.

But beyond the gilded halls of Tremore, something stirs in the dark. The smuggling of forbidden purple limyerite. Omegas disappearing without a trace.

As unrest rises across the Nine Kingdoms, Jing Yi’s hidden skills as a healer may be the only thing standing between life and a slow death.

She was never meant to be the bride he wanted.

And she never asked him to be his hero.

But when the storm arrives, they will face a choice—

Stand together, or be swept away.

Note: Cast Off is an adult Omegaverse fantasy romance and Book Two in the Jewels of the Nine Kingdoms series of interconnected standalones. Each book features new main characters and a fresh love story set against the same world and overarching conflict. It is written to be enjoyed as a standalone, though reading Whisked Away (Book 1) adds richer emotional layers and context.

One of the most nuanced arranged marriage romance I’ve read so far - in a good way! The story will take you on so many switchbacks, you’ll turn those pages wondering what comes next. It makes the story way more realistic with a deep understanding of the characters.
It’s well-written, I’ve highlighted so many lines!
The side characters are gold and I wish we would have spent more time with the them on pages! (there is already plenty but I craved them in the last 20% of the book and I wished they had a bigger part at the end).
The ending leaves plenty of space for the next instalment and I’m so excited to see what’s next!

Princess Jing Yi, with a birthmark on her face and a painful limp, lives as a healer, keeping quiet and humbly working in the background of the palace. So when an arranged marriage sends her to a foreign kingdom to marry a disgraced lord, she is excited for the chance to escape and have true freedom in a place that will, hopefully, accept her for who she is.

Lord Alexander Wulfbane wanted a perfect wife standing by his side to impress the nobles and help his disgraced house regain face. After seeing Jing Yi's "flaws" on their wedding day, he fears that she is not the woman that his house needs. But her extensive healing knowledge and determination may be just what saves them.

The slow burn was slow buuuurnnninngggg ❤️‍🔥 I fell in love with Jing Yi and so many of the side characters immediately. My feelings for Alexander were less straightforward, but he won me over by the end through his yearning and dedication 🤭 Once the romance hit, it was tender, sweet, and so, so satisfying. I'm also a sucker for interracial relationships since I'm in one 💕

I loved how Jing Yi's healing methods were inspired by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) while incorporating the fictional plants and tools of the world.

Each kingdom's culture has been very carefully crafted, beautifully described, and the relationships between these kingdoms are intricately woven together.

I've never read omegaverse fiction before, and this was such a fun introduction to the subgenre. The Alpha, Beta, and Omega dynamics created a fascinating social system along with the more traditional cultures of the kingdoms.

The side characters were such an amazing part of the story, and I can't wait to read more from this series where (I hope) my favs get their own happily ever after!!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the romance. I feel it was very well written and realistic. I hated the ableism bot external and internally. Although it was very realistic it was also very infuriating, as someone who is disabled and it is occasionally visible I have dealt with many situations described in the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read the ARC for Cast Off! Firstly, I love the Asian-inspired FMC and herbal remedies based on her culture! I really enjoyed how the author described Jing-Yi from her POV. She's such a loveable character and I wanted to protect her the whole time.

Secondly, the world-building for each kingdom was well done, especially as someone who didn't read the first in the series! I was able to easily follow the plot, liked how characters from the first book made an appearance in this one, and loved how the author tied the characters and plot in together!!

Thirdly, I was a huge fan of the murder-mystery plot!! Reading this book felt like watching The Apothecary Diaries (for any anime fans) in the best way possible! Overall, I loved the book!!!

This is the second book of the series but can be read as a standalone. ( Although the book is really good and everyone should read it)

Raised as a servant due to her birthmark, Princess Jingyi's only desire is to live a quiet but fulfilling life as a healer. however, she is sent away to be married of as a political tool by her father, the emperor.

Well, let's start by the writing. Enola's writing has improved in a way i cannot even process, it was beautifully written. I just didn't want to stop and found myself reading 150 in a sitting. The pacing was excelent and i loved how it was not set in a 3 part structure. The last 20% or so felt refreshing, no more abrupt and quick endings!!

I'ts been a while since i have resonated with a character this way. Jingyi felt real and complex and watching her growth journey through the book gave me so much hope! The problem with Alexander was that he was too well written!! He is scared and makes mistakes and even if you don't agree and want to throw something at him, you understand and sympathize.

I want to keep reading about this world and cannot wait for the next book. Let's hope Enola gives us a Conrad book!!

When I saw the announcement for this book on Instagram, I had to admit that I felt kind of disappointed to learn that this book would focus on different characters than the first book. I read the first book in the series, Whisked Away, about a year ago, and I absolutely loved it. The characters were amazing, and the world-building was so nuanced and well thought out. I was hoping the second book would focus on Reiyana, Kaelendrin and Alarik, especially because the first book kind of ended on a cliffhanger. But I am so happy that I chose to continue this series because I fell in love all over again, and this time with JingYi and Alexander. This book was so addicting, I literally only put it down when I had to go to work, but I picked it right back up when I got home. As with the first book, this book is really long, but even now that I'm finished, I'm craving more. JingYi's story was heartbreaking, and I rooted for her the whole time. Alexander was a little stupid sometimes, and sometimes I wanted to yell at him for making certain decisions, but his heart was always in the right place. All the side characters were amazing and they really added to the overall ambience of the story, if that makes sense. The difference in how they acted in Xûen-Sarai and Tremore really added to the change in atmosphere JingYi must have experienced when she travelled from her homeland to Tremore to marry Alexander.
I'm normally not a big fan of Omegaverse books, but what I really appreciated about this one (and the first book) was how this power dynamic between Alphas, Betas and Omegas is woven into the world's politics and society. It's not just about Alphas looking for and craving Omegas (and vice versa), but also about political power plays and societal expectations for both Alphas and Omegas. What connected the first book to the second was the emergence of the same group of Betas that had caused trouble for Reiyana in the first book. It's not the main focus of the story but the more you read the more you find out about them, it really makes you feel a sense of urgency because you know they can strike at any time in the book.
A lot of the plot points were kind of predictable and I called them straight away. However, it felt like that was kind of the point: that we as readers were supposed to know it was going to happen at some point. Especially because we had the knowledge from the first book.
Overall, I am so grateful that I was able to get this book as an ARC and that I was able to read it before it came out because I had an absolutely amazing time. Once it releases, I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy and read it all over again!
