Description

He’s sworn to uphold the academy’s rules. She’s determined to get him to break every one of them.

Maeve Vandermere has spent years honing her magic. As a fourth-year storm witch at Coven Crest Academy, she’s built her reputation on magical control, academic excellence, and a life free of unnecessary attachments. With a prestigious fellowship on the line, she refuses to let anything jeopardize the future she’s worked so hard to earn—until Professor Severin D’Arques enters her orbit. Ancient, composed, and dangerously magnetic, the vampire professor begins to unravel her one thread at a time.

Severin D’Arques has survived centuries by choosing discipline over instinct. Hunger, desire, passion—he has learned to deny them all. But Maeve’s storm-charged magic awakens within him something ungovernable, a pull that defies reason and challenges the restraint he’s spent decades cultivating. Every moment near her becomes a decision: to follow the rules that have kept him in control or to give in to a want he knows he should resist.

As their forbidden bond deepens, Maeve and Severin discover their connection carries consequences neither of them fully understands. The closer they become, the more impossible it is to determine where her magic ends and he begins. And when Maeve is forced to decide whether loving Severin is worth the risk of permanently altering the course of her life, she must choose between the future she once planned and the man who may be worth changing it for.

A Witch and Her Vampire is the final book in a quartet of standalones set against the magical backdrop of Coven Crest Academy. If you like high-heat forbidden romance, brooding vampires, powerful storm witches, and magical blood bonds, this book is for you! Appropriate for readers 18+.

10 stars! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series - characters you can't help but like, emotions, sizzle, banter, found family, and plenty of sizzle and some good dashes of spice. I was just as sad to see them graduate as much as they were! Maybe we will follow their adventures, one can hope ...

I am crying with that epilogue! Our girls are all grown up and in love! I am so happy that Maeve is the kind of woman that knows she is capable and independent. That she doesn't need someone beside her, she chooses to allow someone walk with her.

I've enjoyed the Coven Crest Academy books so far, so even though I sometimes struggle with the academic power gap trope, I do love a vampire romance, so I decided to read A Witch and Her Vampire. This was another great stand alone in the series, and wraps these girls' stories up nicely.

I finished this book in two sittings, I would say I found it a solid 4.25. As mentioned I am always personally wary of a student/teacher romance, but this stayed away from any dynamics as far as school work/grades went (just like the second book), and did its best to empower Maeve as a new adult and storm witch.

Maeve was definitely my favourite character in this one. I have a soft spot for Poppy still, but Maeve is our heroine here and I'm so glad it's finally her time to shine. The best part of this book was when Meave decided to follow her heart in regards to the fellowship she's applying to, no spoilers. I can't wait to read more of whatever Emberly has coming up next!

Here are the big tropes in no particular order: vampirexwitch, instalust, age gap, power gap, tortured hero, forbidden romance.

As my first time reading Emberly’s work, I was wonderfully surprised by the world that she crafted and brought forth. The book it noteworthy in its dark academia setting and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys that particular setting.

The story centers on Maeve, a fiercely disciplined fourth-year storm witch who prides herself on absolute emotional and magical control, and Professor Severin, an ancient, dangerously magnetic vampire who has spent centuries mastering his own predatory instincts. When a sudden, accidental blood bond forces their magic and senses to entwine, their carefully constructed worlds completely unravel.

What makes this book so compelling is the sheer tension of the forbidden romance. The student-professor dynamic is handled with an intense, slow-burning yearning that feels incredibly high-stakes, especially since Maeve’s hard-earned academic fellowship is on the line. Wyndham excels at creating a moody, gothic aesthetic—think ancient stone academy halls, volatile elemental magic, and dark secrets—but keeps the core of the story emotionally grounded and deeply comforting. Watching a traditionally restrained, unshakeable hero completely lose his composure and give in to his protective, possessive instincts for Maeve is incredibly satisfying.

I did rather enjoy it and would love to read more of her work
