This book has a Stranger Things vibe. Its an action packed story about kids in the aftermath of Witch13. We also see Sterling navigate her way through the witchy realm.
This book is a bit different from the Witch13.

This was a strong sequel in the Thirteen Wands series, It had that element that I enjoyed from the first book and enjoyed the paranormal elements to the story. The characters felt like the same characters from the first book and that they belonged in this world. I was hooked from the first page and thought this was a improvement on the first book and had that magic that I had enjoyed from that book. Patrick Delaney does a great job in writing this and I hope there is more in this world

Dark, Weird, and Wonderfully Unhinged
Witch 13 and the Shadows Over Suttershade takes everything strange and unsettling about the first book and opens the door to an even bigger—and much weirder—world.
I really enjoyed the two sides of this story. Max’s storyline has that small-town, kids-versus-something-terrible horror feel, while Sterling’s time in Pendervale dives headfirst into dark fantasy. The Thirteen Witches, deadly magic, and bizarre candy-coated nightmare of Pendervale give the book a wonderfully twisted atmosphere.
There is A LOT happening here—serial killers, masked maniacs, witches, terrifying magic, alternate worlds, and plenty of secrets—and for the most part, Patrick Delaney somehow makes the chaos work. I especially liked that this didn’t feel like a simple repeat of Witch 13. The world gets much larger, the mythology deeper, and the stakes considerably higher.
My biggest hesitation was also one of the book’s strengths: there is so much going on that occasionally the story feels a little overstuffed. I also found myself more invested in certain parts of the story than others, which made a few sections feel slower by comparison.
Still, this was an imaginative, creepy, action-packed sequel that left me wanting to know where this increasingly bonkers story is headed next.
4 stars. Definitely worth picking up if you like horror mixed with dark fantasy, creepy small towns, dangerous witches, and stories that aren't afraid to get weird.
