Description
Discover the hidden world of a tide pool while following a hermit crab through 24 hours of tide cycles, dangers, and chance meetings as she searches for a new shell.
In a great tide pool along the central coast of California, what from afar looks like just a rocky outcropping comes to life with color and drama as a hermit crab searches for a new, larger shell. The crab must survive extreme conditions through the course of a tide cycle—encountering crashing waves, hungry predators, and a neighborhood of diverse animals—in order to find her new home.
While following the crab's story through gorgeous, paneled illustrations, readers will also learn about the adaptations of a wide variety of creatures, why tides happen, the tide pool food web, and more through sidebars and photos.

ARC Review: What Goes on Inside a Tide Pool by Katy Scott ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book was such a special read for my family! What Goes on Inside a Tide Pool was an easy 5 out of 5 stars for me and my kids.
We take an annual trip to Monterey Bay every year, and we always stay right on the beach. Over the years, my kids have had the chance to explore the tide pools and see many of the creatures featured in this book in real life. Because of that, they immediately connected with the book and were so excited to recognize animals and sea life they had actually seen during our trips.
I loved watching their excitement as they flipped through the pages and pointed out the creatures they remembered seeing. It made the book feel much more personal for them and turned reading it into a fun way to revisit some of our favorite family memories.
Katy Scott does a wonderful job making the fascinating world inside a tide pool accessible and engaging for young readers. It’s educational without feeling overwhelming, and it encourages kids to be curious about the amazing life that exists just beyond the shoreline.
For my family, this book was more than just a great nonfiction read—it brought back memories of exploring the beach together and gave my kids even more reasons to be curious about the ocean and the creatures living in it.
I would highly recommend this book to families, especially those who love the beach, exploring nature, and discovering what lives beneath the waves.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.
