Here it is: the first-time look at
the remarkable American multinational mass media empire and its century
of entertainment—the story of Twentieth Century Fox (1915–2015). Or, to
borrow the title of a classic 1959 Fox film, The Best of Everything.
This is the complete revelatory story—bookended by empire builders
William Fox and Rupert Murdoch—aimed as both a grand, entertaining,
nostalgic and picture-filled interactive read and the ultimate guide to
all things Twentieth Century Fox. The controversies and scandals are
here, as are the extraordinary achievements. Among other firsts, the
book offers fun tours of its historic production and ranch facilities
including never-before-told stories about its stars and creative
personalities (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, James Dean, and Shirley
Temple got started there), as well as a complete company timeline
stuffed with fascinating trivia. Finally, it is the first such work
approved by the company and utilizing its own unique resources. The
authors primarily tell a celebratory tale, but most importantly, an
accurate one.
Michael Troyan
has worked as an archivist at the Walt Disney and Warner Bros. studios
as well as a consultant and film historian elsewhere. He is the author
of A Rose For Mrs. Miniver: The Life of Greer Garson, and has contributed to numerous books about Hollywood, and particularly Disney, history. He lives in Northern California. Stephen Sylvester
is the former head of Hollywood Heritage and a member of the Friends of
Fox. Besides combing the company’s archives as never before, Sylvester
also has ongoing interviews with dozens of Fox employees past and
present, celebrating every aspect of its motion picture making.

This was a great look at the "old" hollywood system and history. Loved it!

Perfect for any movie buff, this book provides a fascinating look at one of Hollywood's most famous studios, Twentieth Century Fox. It's filled with photographs and stories that are sometimes as entertaining as some of the movies this studio has produced.

This would make a great coffee table book for anyone interested in the history of the entertainment industry and especially the early days of Fox. The book features a lot of never before seen pictures of the studio and behind the scenes, plus great information about the start of the studio, the atmosphere and the celebrities. I do not recommend it in ebook format, definitely splurge on the hardcover.

I grew up near movie sets so this book was a great thrill for me to read. I had the opportunity to tour most of them many years ago when movies were made realistically without computers and with real sets. I remember the sets of the past and much of what movie making was years ago is long lost except to memories. I so enjoyed revisiting this great history here and the photographs were beautiful. The history of the studio and its greats are all here, remembered with the important contribution they made to movies. This is sweeping history of Twentieth Century Fox one of the first great studios . Its also a vivid look at the past of movies, a past long lost but not forgotten by many of us. For those of us with movies in our blood, this is a must read . I purchased one for my home book collection and will give it as gifts . This is epic in scope, a must read and a delight from cover to cover. Thank you to the authors for your attention to detail, exquisite history of the studio and your research.
Thank you with gratitude for the ARC which did not influence my review.
