I have always loved the story of Ruth and Naomi so have studied this book with great interest. I have an amazing Mother-in-law and would follow her just like Ruth does. This book has brought me new insights into rut. I have learnt more about waiting on God in times of strain, following the wisdom of people who are guiding me and knowing that God is looking out for me at all times. Truly encouraging in my daily walk with God.

This book made me see Ruth in such a different way. I knew the story of Ruth but this author gave her a different dimension. The author also used Ruth to show us how GOD spreads HIS wings over us and protects us and takes us in just like Boaz took in Ruth. The book is a devotional about Ruth - it starts out with a Scripture each day and then it starts out with describing what the Scripture was about then how it relates to GOD and today. This book is so wonderful - I love Ruth - this is just a great addition to it.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of secrets of ruth through the publisher and netgalley:
"Wherever you go, I will go." Ruth spoke these words to Naomi thousands of years ago, and they resognate today. Naomi and Ruth left Moab for Bethelem, listening to God's call.
For years I have been fascinated by the story of Ruth and Naomi and the relationship this Mother in Law and Daughter in Law had.
If you are looking for a book that gives you a deeper look into Ruth and Naomi then Secrets of Ruth is a must read.
Five out of five stars.
Happy Reading.

Elimelech and Naomi had a crop failure because of a drought in Israel, so they traveled a bit to the east to the land of Moab and settled there. While they were there, their sons, Mahlon and Chilion, both married Moabite women, and Elimelech died. Eventually Mahlon and Chilion also die. Embittered, Naomi decides to go back to Israel. Ruth and Orpah, the daughters-in-law, follow, but Orpah turns back after Naomi's urgings. Ruth commits to staying by Naomi's side, whatever the cost, whatever the outcome.
Patricia Mitchell has drawn out the life of Ruth and exposed the work God did in her life and how it applies to us. It is in a devotional format in easy-to-read, short daily snippets. Secrets of Ruth speaks to the heart of women who want to do what matters most to God and that is exactly what Patricia has done in this book. One thing that will stand out to the reader is that following God isn't always easy, nor is it without cost, just as Ruth found out herself.
This is a five star book for women who matter to God.
My thanks to Barbour Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book.

Must Read!
This book has 5 parts in a devotional format:
Part 1: About Naomi and Ruth
part 2: Ruth meets Boaz
part 3: Ruth and Boaz at the threshing floor
part 4: Boaz marries Ruth
Part 5 The genealogy of David
The reason I chose this book is because I loved reading about Ruth.
Though this book is simple and easy to read, this book is so inspiring and an eye opening for me. I see Ruth in a whole new perspective that I've never thought before and would like to explore it further. I enjoy reading it and I will recommend this book to every woman who want to know more about Ruth
and learn how God uses common people to become an ancestor of the Messiah.

The book of Ruth is my favorite one of the Bible. Because of a special phrase contained in it and that I noticed the first time in all its power in a movie you know I love a lot: Fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. In the movie one of the protagonists, Ruth, had a violent husband and asked for help at one of her best girlfriend sending her the Bible Page of the Book of Ruth, underlining a special part that says: "Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge."
Time ago I bought a keyring with these powerful Ruth's words and I thought when this book appeared at the horizon that I had absolutely to read it.
I didn't know a lot Ruth's book or her story telling the truth although I am a reader at the Sunday Mass. It wasn't a book I knew a lot. After I finished to read this book Secrets of Ruth by Patricia Mitchell I can tell you what I discovered is amazingly beauty and it presented me a profound peace.
The book released from Dec 1st by Barbour Publishing.
You will find in the book the entire story of course of Ruth, Naomi, the mom of her poor husband and Orpah, the other girl who married the brother of the husband of Ruth.
Anyway, after a while all these men including Naomi's husband died and what to do? Naomi maybe could have also re-married another man and maybe with new children but....Could these two youngest girls waiting for so long?
She decided to set them free. "Do what you want to do and be who you want to be." Orpah decided to follow her own destiny, Ruth decided to afford with Naomi to Bethlehem. "I won't never leave you alone" she must have thought.
"Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God" she said to Naomi.
It wasn't simple at all at first, because from the status of good, married women they became poor and devastated, and they had to search for some grain for baking bread. They had to re-start everything from the beginning. But being tenacious, meant to them also a new re-start in particular for Ruth.
Naomi was the one who became the hardest part of the chain. She didn't accept this change.
This book while it explains the story of these two ladies and what it happened later it is also plenty of great reflections about our attitude to life, what we should expect, the presence or absence of God, our period of weakness and strength and what we can do for better ourselves and what at the moment we can't change, accepting it and trying at the same time to better ourselves.
It's a very wise, calm book, a spiritual book for a spiritual trip for all of us. But remember that the Bible Book of Ruth is not just a spiritual trip but a real trip who wants to let us reflect about what it can means abandoning a land for following someone else somewhere else. So a physical trip with all the problematic that you can meet.
The message of Ruth is very important and crucial because it's a message for every open heart.
What does this mean?
That it will be important wherever we will go to be good with everyone, accepting what we will find. And also when we see a stranger, or someone we don't know of from a different culture, as it happened to Ruth, we must welcome him/her in our city, country, village, because the acceptance creates good values, great comfort for newcomers and a good base for building a great future.
Of course we can extend the message of Ruth also at a friend or a relative, someone in sufferance, someone who needs help.
We mustn't never be indifferent at the sufferance, but always helpful.
Many thanks to NetGalley for this book and to Barbour Publishing.

I picked up this book looking for a devotional geared toward women that would give me some quality Bible study and maybe not concentrate so much on the wife/mother aspects of being female (as I am neither of these things). I saw this one and jumped at the opportunity to look more in depth at this book, and I'm glad I did.
Mitchell breaks down Ruth hardcore and provides insight on some of the things not explicitly spelled out, and makes you think not only about the book and the people in its pages but encourages the reader to practice the principles laid out in Ruth and Naomi's story in the reader's own life.
I'd definitely recommend this devotional, maybe in conjunction with others that focus on other books as well. It gave me insight I never gained from just reading it straight through.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I love the book of Ruth. This Bible study/devotional sheds new light on the story. I learned so much in this study. The breakdown of the relationships among Boaz, Naomi and Ruth is very enlightening. It also shows the relevance of this story to today. A must read!
