Description

A secret informant has warned the Masters of a dangerous group called the Eradicators—souls determined to influence humanity into destroying Earth from within. The Masters want to intervene, but with the veil in place separating spirit and matter, reaching people seems impossible.

Their only hope is Harmony, a rare soul with the uncanny ability to remember what truly matters in each lifetime. She’s thrilled to accept the assignment to save Earth… until she learns the truth: her last ten lives ended before their time.

Now, before she can fulfill her purpose, Harmony must uncover why her souls keep slipping away. Every failure brings her closer to losing not only herself but the entire world she’s meant to protect.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really intriguing read for me; the explanation of reincarnation was really interesting and I loved the insight into past lives that the main character Harmony had lived, along with her friends. Harmony and Kaleb were also such a heartwarming couple - the way that their souls always managed to find one another was incredibly beautiful.

The ending was my least favorite part - but that's only because I want to know what happens next now!

Our Lives Between delivers an emotional, soul-stirring blend of YA fantasy and metaphysical mystery. Billie Kowalewski creates a captivating world where destinies stretch across lifetimes and the fate of Earth rests on one rare, resilient soul. Harmony is a compelling heroine—hopeful, determined, and burdened by the mysterious pattern of her prematurely ending lives. Her journey to uncover the truth is both gripping and deeply reflective, weaving themes of purpose, love, and the long echoes of the choices we make. With its reincarnation twist, high-stakes tension, and heartfelt introspection, this novel will resonate strongly with fans of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and Before I Fall. A moving, imaginative read that lingers well after the final chapter.

Such a great idea for a story. A group of souls (spirits maybe?) who keep getting sent down to Earth. They are in special angel classes together and are supposed to find each other and help each other during each lifetime. The idea is excellent. The book started really great. We went back and forth between Harmony's now and through her previous lives. They come back to 'heaven' or wherever and would debrief. Honestly, it was clever and started really great. And then, well, it went downhill. It kind of turned into a strange version of a self-help book. The author would go off on sententious rants about how we should live our lives and what makes good people and blah blah blah. I felt like I was being preached at in an extremely irritating way. If I wanted to read a self-help book or a sermon, I would have done so. Not looking for that in my fiction. Not, to say, that fiction can't have lessons or nuggets of wisdom, because it can. But if it's putting plot to the side to prattle about goodness, I'm out.
Harmony and her soulmate went from 0 to 60 with no explanation as to how they got there. Harmony hated Kaleb and hated Kaleb and hated Kaleb and then one person suggests they may be soulmates and suddenly she's madly and desperately in love with him. It's not believable. There was nothing in Harmony's personality to suggest she was so incredibly suggestible. It just didn't work for me.
I'm mildly curious how the series ends and who the bad people actually are, I have some ideas, but I don't want to be preached at endlessly. I guess we have to break up now. It's not me, book, it's you.

Quotes
My name is Harmony, and I am going to let you in on a little secret. I am a student at the biggest, most famous school ever known. And so are you! It’s called Earth.

Yes, life is about learning, and Earth is our school. I’m sure you have heard someone on Earth say this before. I know when I am there, I hear this often. Some people know, but it’s not because they remember it is. They know because people cannot get through a single day there without learning something, somehow. On Earth, learning is unavoidable.

I couldn’t decide what scared me more: facing what had happened or going through the rest of my life as severely depressed as I had been. What if I faced this and walked away the same as I came in? What if it didn’t matter? Or what if I made myself worse?
[I felt this so hard.]

No one can expect to get every lesson right on the first try. Getting things wrong is how we learn to eventually get things right. Life is about discovering what makes each one of us special. It’s about what defines each one of us individually. It tests us, helping us to learn who we really are, and how we truly want to be.

So cozy and interesting read on recincarnation, soulmates, and love. It’s amazing how thought out the story is between earth and atropia.

The description of this book immediately intrigued me.

It presents an alternate world where Earth is merely a school lesson, and death means returning home. Souls are immortal, with the option to live multiple lives on Earth if they choose. The story follows Harmony, a female soul pulled into a quiet war against a group intent on shutting down the Earth project. As she becomes entangled in this conflict, she must also confront the mystery of why her and another soul’s lives on Earth keep ending prematurely.

While the premise was compelling, I found the book difficult to get through. The narrative often felt repetitive, with frequent descriptions of the main character’s world taking precedence over plot development. Ultimately, the story ended without reaching a clear resolution, which left me feeling unsatisfied.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. I thought the premise of the book was quite interesting, and like something I hadn't read before. However, as I started reading, I couldn't look past a few things. Mainly, the writing. It just isn't for me. I think potentially, I am the wrong demographic/age for this book, which is completely understandable considering this is categorised as a Y/A.

This was such a fascinating story about reincarnation and soulmates. I love how the FMC, Harmony, starts by breaking the 4th wall and explaining reincarnation to the reader. Souls are sent to a school—known as Earth—to live, grow, and learn. One of my favorite aspects was seeing the different past lives that Harmony and her friends had experienced. The book carries a meaningful message of how we are always learning and the life lessons we are meant to grow from.

Harmony and Kaleb were such an adorable couple. We could see how much love there was between them and how their souls would always find each other in each reincarnation. It's a beautiful thing to hope that we all have a soulmate out there for us.

The sad thing is that it ended on such a cliffhanger! I need to know what happens next. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to track down the next book where it continues, so I’m left wondering about their fate. I’d still recommend this book, but just a heads-up: you may have a hard time finding the sequel.

I think this was an interesting take on a fantasy story that is imagined by many. I loved the way it explored the themes of learning life lessons, of falling in love, and of evil existing even in “heaven”. I think the beginning was a little slower, but once I got 1/4 of the way through I couldn’t put it down. The ending made me excited and hopeful for a sequel/series.

This is a complicated book for me to review because I found the beginning much slower than I wanted, the middle very interesting and the end a little sudden. Overall the writing is excellent, I just personally could have used the plot moving forward a little more. There is a lot happening in the book, lives the characters are living, especially the main character but I got a bit lost with it all. The relationship between the two main characters is very hard to pin down and never quite seems to resolve itself, despite the ending. I think maybe the concept wasn’t for me. I would say anyone interested in reincarnation would certainly enjoy the book. Overall I am rating the book at four stars though my rating is probably somewhere around 3.6
