Description
Heavy and Dark Content Warnings: Jonah Grady, a gay former SAS operative, escaped the Kentucky mountains, the faith that condemned him, and the family that tried to erase him. He was never going back.
But when his estranged parents die in a suspicious car crash, Jonah returns to the Dominion of America, a Christian nationalist regime where queer people disappear into conversion camps and brutality is dressed in scripture.
He walks right into a trap.
Drugged and dumped in the wilderness, Jonah becomes the sacrificial lamb in a Redemption Hunt: a twisted survival game run by zealots who believe killing him will erase their sins and cleanse their souls.
They made a fatal mistake.
They didn’t just catch a sinner. They caught an operative who learned long ago how to turn pain into a weapon.
God may forgive them. Jonah won’t.

Advance Praise
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "A perfectly executed thriller... The prose champions brevity without compromising clarity and cadence. Faustino subverts the stereotypical queer tropes with his representation of a gay protagonist who used to be an SAS operative, while also succeeding at grounding deeply complex and layered characters in their trauma and backstories... The world-building is flawless; this dystopia set in the near future is completely believable."
— Maria Zafar, IndieReader (5 Stars, IR Approved)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The most fascinating part of Frank Faustino’s novel is the impeccable worldbuilding... The characters are well-developed, and Jonah’s personality is a reflection of what happens when an outcast refuses to bend his knee to oppression. Salvation is a resonant story that made me think about the intersection of religious fanaticism and politics... This absorbing tale has terrific action scenes, and readers will barely have time to catch their breath.”
—Christian Sia, Readers’ Favorite (5 Stars)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "The attention to detail in the devices and weaponry during Jonah's activities in the wild will excite action enthusiasts. What stands out in Salvation is how Jonah's actions seem borderline criminal, even when he is the victim of violence, painting him as the unusual antihero in a multilayered drama."
—Essien Asian, Readers' Favorite (5 Stars)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Frank Faustino paints a portrait of an America that is broken... This story felt so real, and as I read, I had echoes of what is happening in the world today. [A] compelling story of a memorable character... and his determination to break down Dominion."
—Romuald Dzemo, Readers' Favorite (5 Stars)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "In the dangerous wilderness, the game of survival begins for Jonah. Jonah is the hero whom powerful men and the system have worked hard to break, but he transforms his struggles into an energy that forces him to stay alive and fight. The prose sparkles through every page, and the plot moves at a relentless pace, making you feel as though you were riding a wave."

Beta Readers
"I have beta-read a lot of books, and Salvation is definitely in my top ten. I was incredibly impressed by this fully realized near-future dystopia. It is a propulsive, ruthless thriller that starts at a dead sprint and rarely lets up, featuring one of the most compelling protagonists I've read in a long time. Absolutely unputdownable." — Prolific Beta Reader & Early Reviewer
"A propulsive, ruthless thriller with a protagonist who feels credible and dangerous. It starts at a dead sprint and rarely lets up." — Early Reviewer
"This manuscript sits at the intersection of political dystopia, high-octane revenge thriller, and transgressive queer lit. The writing is cinematic." — Early Reviewer
"The Dominion of America you've created is chilling because it feels so possible. The voice combines noirish first-person grit with cinematic action staging and politically charged social commentary." — Early Reviewer
"Jonah is one of the most compelling protagonists I've read in a long time. The way you've woven his SAS training, his deep-seated trauma, and his sadomasochistic tendencies into a unified whole is masterful." — Early Reviewer

Thank you to NetGalley, Twisted Jezebel Press, and Frank Faustino for the digital ARC of this book!
Dark fiction with teeth indeed. This book is like a dark, twisted version of Reacher crossed with Hunger Games...and I loved every moment of it!!!! Trigger warnings for just about every thing, so please read at your discretion.
I loved the fact that Faustino makes the main character, Jonah, perfectly imperfect. He has his flaws (boy, does he ever) but he doesn't apologize for them. In fact, he turns them into deadly weapons. The flaws are not glossed over, not skimmed, not avoided. They are front and center, being analyzed in graphic detail. And then sharpened to a fine point, which the main character uses to sadistically kill his enemies.
Also, the way the author gives the reader an inside view of the mindset to the sado/masochism world is mind blowing. It leaves you, at times appalled, aroused, shamed, and intrigued. The graphic violence, sex, and torture shocks to the core, but seems utterly needed for the story.
Finally, finally, FINALLY, we have a gay main character who isn't sidelined, camped out, or any other overused trope. He's ruthless, deadly, capable. And not ashamed of it. I have never been a fan of the thriller/mystery/military type books, but this easily has become a new favorite! I will be getting copy of this for my personal shelf!
This was so close to being exactly what I wanted, from the cover and description. I was hoping for pulpy action thriller righteous vengeance. Gay Jack Reacher. And it was really close. The swerves into gross-out rape and extreme BDSM changed the tone a little; it was not quite what I expected from the content warning of "open door sex", which usually accompanies sex scenes with less specific fetish content. More clarity to set expectations in the right place might be useful. Enjoyable, just not quite as pitched.
