I absolutely loved this part of the series! Marigold has lost her magic and tries to regain it with the help of Phoebe and the slightly-less-evil-than-usual Dakota. Great fun!

As always, I enjoyed this latest of Phoebe's adventures with her unicorn friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. In this episode, we are introduced to another magical creature who I hope we will see in future editions. Phoebe meets a lonely dragon whose emotional comfort eating is inadvertently draining electricity from their town. The illustrations add a charming magic to the telling.

Usually the "Phoebe and her unicorn" series are a compilation of comic strips about life as a schooler riding a cool unicorn, and different adventures or cores they go on about in daily life. But in this one we find that the majority of the book follows the story of the Magic Storm, which seems to be like a harder than usual storm and the kids get to be dismissed from school as electricity goes out and there is snow and an icy chill everywhere.
But it looks like this storm is affecting magic too, so Phoebe and her unicorn go out to find what is going on. They even get approached by Phoebe's archenemy and her goblins as they too suspect there is stomething wrong in the storm!

The rest of the book is a compilation of comic strips as per usual.

Phoebe and her unicorn are back and as adorable as ever. This time they not only have to deal with Dakota and her goblins but with a serious cold spell and a sudden lack of magic. Marigold and the goblins are able to figure out most of the story but they still have work to do to clear everything up. Through their explorations, they manage to charm the reader as well as help facilitate another human/magical creature pairing. All this and yet there is time for a costume montage.

Four stars

My son and I discovered Phoebe and her Unicorn on Hoopla thanks to our library. He read all 5 copies about 3 times and then checked them all out again. He really liked them. So I jumped at the chance to review this. The only downside is we only get to keep this one for 55 days.

Anyway, it was as good as ever. Ivan and I like to read it together, where I get to read the unicorns and goblins and Ivan reads the rest. We made it halfway the first day, and then he finished the book without me.

I like how friendships are valued in these stories. And how different people, who may not even really like each other, can still work together and get along.

Ivan really likes all the different characters, and it always makes him laugh. He said this was a really good book, and it looks like it's a To Be Continued...so he's excited about that.

LOVED THIS! Phoebe and Her Unicorn is one of my favorite middle grade comic series.

Phoebe and Marigold decide to investigate a powerful storm that is wreaking havoc with the electricity in their town. The adults think it’s just winter weather, but Phoebe and Marigold soon discover that all is not what it seems to be, and that the storm may have a magical cause. To solve the case, they team up with Max, who is desperate for the electricity to return so he can play video games, and frenemy Dakota, who is aided by her goblin minions. Together, they must get to the bottom of the mystery and save the town from the magic storm.
If you haven't checked out the other Phoebe and Her Unicorn books or checked out the weekly strip on DanaSimpson.com, then go do that RIGHT NOW.

Phoebe and Marigold are the new Calvin and Hobbes. Period. End review.

But in all seriousness, I have yet to read a Phoebe and Marigold story that didn't make me laugh out loud. They are equal parts hilarious and educational, complete with a list of vocabulary words that may be above grade level for some readers.

If I had children, these would be a staple before bedtime for us.

This was charming and adorable, as expected. I really liked that unlike previous volumes, this book had one storyline it followed from beginning to end. As much as I love the comic strip nature of previous volumes, I found I preferred having a bigger plot. It also allowed for some more character development for all involved, especially Max.

The plot itself was fantastic. And I loved the resolution! The perfect amount of whimsy for this series.

I've enjoyed the previous Phoebe and Her Unicorn collections of comics, and this graphic novel expands that story to a slightly different format while maintaining the charm of the original series. Readers will be excited to see favorite characters and meet a few new ones in this book, and I can certainly see this moving at my library.

A delightful tale any little child that loves mythical unicorns would enjoy, it’s magical with a modern day twist. It shows your child what they can achieve when they let their imaginations soar. Phoebe just wanted to be liked and popular like her frenemy Dakota, whose family was rich. So her magical unicorn came and of course, Dakota went for goblins anything to stay at the top of the popularity chart. It’s a fun and imaginative story with a magical storyline entwine with the present, the characters are funny and amusing, a truly cute book your child would enjoy.

ARC copy...it had humor, heart, egotistic unicorn pride! Plus oh magic seems to work like a cellphone system and...nothing says go away like a work petition. Hehe BLART!

An ice storm is moving into town. Phoebe is excited because she gets out of school early, but Princess Marigold is concerned because she can’t sense any magic. Before the entire town goes into shock because Marigold’s shield of boringness isn’t working with the magic down, Phoebe, Marigold, and their friends (and frenemies) must get to the bottom of what is causing this mysterious storm and magic shortage.

So I may have squealed like a little girl when I saw this available on Netgalley. I’ve been steadily devouring every Phoebe and Her Unicorn book as soon as I can get my hands on them (and sometimes I cheat and read daily comics online before they make it in a book). I usually have a line of eager readers at school waiting for me to hand the books over to them, and those fans come from a wide demographic. Hooray for Phoebe getting kids reading! (Well, and Marigold, but I’m afraid she already has a big enough head.) Every book prior to this has been a collection of strips with various short series occasionally. (If you want the back story for Phoebe and Marigold’s relationship, Phoebe and Dakota’s frenemy status, how Dakota got a following of goblins, or what’s up with Dakota’s hair you’ll need to read those comic strip collections…you can probably pick this up and follow the plot ok, but reading the previous books definitely helped me understand this better.) This particular book is one coherent plot line from start to finish which is a first for the series, thus the “first graphic novel” stuff. It was all I was hoping for -- though that does not mean my appetite for Phoebe and Marigold adventures is quenched. I love following around the slightly nerdy Phoebe, the vain but accidentally lovable Marigold, and their delightfully entertaining everyday adventures. Please keep them coming, Ms. Simpson. Oh, and thank you so very much for having a dragon in this one. The readers will be ecstatic when this arrives in our library.

What a delight this is! It is a wonderfully illustrated graphic novel aimed at middle grade children. It was the cover that pulled me in. Simple and effective.

Phoebe and her unicorn are investigating why the electricity and magic are not working anymore. It is a lovely story of friendship and I loved it from beginning to end.

Even though I am clearly not the intended audience, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and raced through it. I know several children who would love this book and I would definitely recommend it as an awesome gift!

Please follow me on my blog :) Review originally posted on Vellum Voyages (www.vellumvoyages.com)

I’ve said it before and I will say it again….I want a unicorn, especially one like Marigold! Another delightful addition to Dana Simpson’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn series. I still haven’t had time to read books 1-4 but they are definitely something I would like to get around to, as I just adore these two!

In this installation, Phoebe gets to leave school early due to an ice-storm brewing within the town, but Marigold is suspicious of the storm as she can’t seem to sense any magic in the air. As Phoebe and Marigold investigate this strange phenomenon, they also team up with the less-mean Dakota and her gremlins and Phoebe’s electricity loving friend, Max.

I really enjoyed my time spent with Phoebe and Marigold and it was nice to see Phoebe and Dakota getting along! Dakota can be so mean! Also, I loved the diversity portrayed by Max’s parents! What a nice surprise! I assume this might rub some parents the wrong way as it is a sensitive issue but I really didn’t mind….To be honest it’s an issue I have been thinking about a lot recently, as for my reading challenges I have been challenged to read some books from the LGBT+ community. I must say my mind is more open and diverse due to these challenges, as equality is something I support and don’t have any problems with! Our children’s generations are going to have some parents of the same sex, so it’s great these prompts are there to get children thinking, asking questions and being informed to also have an open mind about others who are different. Well done Dana Simpson and hope everyone else enjoys this read as much as I did! BLART!

Hello Phoebe and Marigold! I have missed you.

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm, the sixth book in the Phoebe and her Unicorn series, is just as cute, sweet and funny as the other five. This time, the adventure involves an ice storm, electricity, and a legend of a dragon.

Something strange is happening outside! An storm is on the way, electricity is down all over town, and the magic seems to have been sucked out of the world..Phoebe and Marigold, along with Dakota and her goblins, are off to investigate what behind the magic storm.

This adorable series consistently delivers a sense of wonder and fun. Highly recommended.

I love Phoebe and her Unicorn - I have picked up a few of this series where it is a collection of comic shorts put into one place. This is the first full length graphic novel, one story and it is magical.

In the story there is a power outage all over town and even Marigold is having problems with her magic - and that is unacceptable! Phoebe with the help of Marigold, Dakota and Max, are off to find the problem and fix it.

The full-length is just a entertaining as the collections - Phoebe and Marigold are still besties, and Marigold is still a bit conceited but it makes for a funnier tale. Dakota and her goblin cohort are so weird and Dakota is a wonderful enemy/friend combo.

It was a bit different to read one story versus many shorts but I think that overall the story held together well and it didn't have as much punch as some of the one-liners from other issues but it was still very fun to read.

As had been hinted back on the comic strip’s internet page, this is a new story rather than a compilation like the previous editions. I don’t know if that’s what makes the difference, and it really is weird reading a long narrative when you’re used to four-panel little stories every day, but this is the best book in the series.
No surprise that the story starts with Marigold staring at her reflection and unable to look away. There’s a unicorn summoning dance. . . why was it not shown? Argh!
“Yes, I am Phoebe’s throne thingy.” Wow, Phoebe and Marigold actually hug! She lifts her leg onto Phoebe’s shoulder.
“Bossy girls get all the goblins.”
“Then I have to warn you there may NOT be a dragon involved.” So in addition to Max’s new unicorn friend in the strips, he’s now chummy with a dragon too.
The costumes alone are worth the price of this book. Dakota would make a better Albert Einstein, though.
The extras at the end include an electricity primer, how to make a phosphorescent drink, a magic trick, and glossary.

Electricity is quite magical, no wonder thunderstorms were imagined to be the workings of the gods in the old days. Dana Simpson has taken a new look into the natural phenomenon of electricity and turned it into magic in her graphic novel.

Phoebe is a young girl, who has a unicorn as a friend. When an icy storm is getting closer to their hometown, they discover there’s more to it than just extreme weather. Marigold, the unicorn, senses that the ambient magic is disappearing. Phoebe’s bullying schoolmate Dakota has employed some goblins to elevate her status. But this time Dakota is not behind the icy coldness, there are bigger powers involved…

Dana Simpson has a very clear line drawing style, which suits this story well. Despite the magical ingredients, it is very down to earth and addresses problems familiar to the segment group of middle graders. This is definitely an educational graphic novel, but not at all preachy. The facts have been listed separately in the back, which is a good solution. And there are plenty of fun, ironic moments in the story, easily recognizable to most of us.

I love this series for it's wonderful portrayal of friendship, and sass. So much sass. This is by far my favorite series to thrust at parents who tell me they're kid doesn't like reading, I love being able to tell them exactly what they're getting out of this series and I love it even more when they come back and tell me their kid can't get enough of reading now, what else can I suggest?
This might be my favorite Phoebe and her Unicorn yet though. I loved that they display the different types of friendship that exist. I have a special soft spot for Dakota and Max. Seriously, frenemy friendships and you're my favorite nerd even when I don't understand a word you're saying friendships are golden. I loved this and the inclusion of a new character whom I hope to see more of in the long run.

Once more, Phoebe and Her Unicorn delights audiences with its delightful antics and humor. Simpson's artwork is engaging and fresh, and her characters fairly jump off the page with vigor and life. This series is a must read!

This is a comic strip turned graphic novel that will appeal to adults and middle grade readers who delight in the delightfully absurd and glittery irony of friendship and life. This is a brilliantly engaging and epically delightful series that is impossible to put down.

I love these books! This is such a great series. I wholeheartedly recommend them for any school library. This one has a great message of acceptance and inclusion, in the form of a sad, friendless dragon.

The storied of Phoebe and Marigold, her unicorn, is a modern approach to fairy tales that mixes fantasy with technology and the result is so much fun! In Phoebe and her Unicorn in the Magic Storm the dynamic duo face a magical storm that interferes with electricity, electromagnetic waves and magic!
I am a sucker for all things magic but my 5 year old boy loved it too! Even though I had to translate to greek... The illustrations are cute and young readerds have a lot to learn about friendship and working together. I realy hope the series gets a greek translation!

It's been a while since I've picked up any of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn books, but this one is unique in that, rather than a set of separate comic panels, it's actually a graphic novel!

Phoebe and Marigold have yet another adventure ahead of them, but in this story, a mysterious storm has struck their town, taking with it not only the electricity (and the wi-fi - gasp), but also the ambient magic. Poor Marigold is without her powers, which simply won't do, so the duo decides to hunt down what could be causing such a bizarre turn of events.

As always, Phoebe and Marigold are absolutely adorable, but my favorite part of this volume was the goblins! They're hilarious, gross, little green guys, and they were such a fun addition. Also, there's a dragon, as there should be in essentially every story.

BLART.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for granting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

It's my first time to read an issue from this comics series of Phoebe and Her Unicorn. Marigold the Unicorn is really awesome because she possessed amazing powers, e.g., the magical GPS and magical text message. There are several funny parts in this volume, particularly how Phoebe and Marigold wore a disguise because Marigold's magic wasn't working. Dakota's remarks and that one word "Blart" of the goblins are also quite hilarious.

Aside from the unicorn's magic, the magic power of Dakota's goblins were also not working; the internet and the electricity were also out. According the goblin's story, the reason of their problem was the dragon named Voltina. Because of this, Marigold, Phoebe, Dakota, Max, and the goblins joined forces so they can finally found a solution to their and to the town's dilemma.

I'm happy with the ending because not only that Phoebe and her friends had finally solved the mystery, but Voltina had finally found friends. I might check out the previous published issues of this series; I bet that I will also enjoy reading them just like I did in this latest book.

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm is the sixth graphic novel in the Phoebe and Her Unicorn Series by Dana Simpson. I have not read this series in order, but I have seen the first three books. I think newcomers and those that might have missed some books along the way will still be able to enjoy the read.

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm is a story about magic, friends, and bravery. I like that Phoebe cares very little about what others, including Dakota, think of her. She just goes on doing things she loves, and being a good friend to those around her. I wish more kids (and adults) focused more on their own friendships and activities than what others are doing. The mystery and conflict behind the storm and power drain was creative and fun, with an extra layer about friendship and making new friends. Even while the action was in high gear, there were aspects of the story that was still focused on character and relationship development. And, as always, I found the artwork to be charming and a meaningful part of the story.

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm is just what readers of this series, and readers that like fantasy and graphic novels, will enjoy. I think this will be a hit among the target audience, and with any reader looking for a story about friendship and magic.

The Magic Storm gives Phoebe, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, and their supporting cast the opportunity to shine again. These books make me laugh aloud. I often share their antics with my friends.
