Description

Hunters’ Watch Brigade, Book 1

“I like authors that aren't afraid to embrace strong female leads.” — Krissy's Bookshelf Reviews on Chalvaren Rising

It’s never just another day at the office . . .

Demigod Samantha Silverton, a full-time monster hunter in the Hunters’ Watch Brigade, is on a mission with her familiar, Max, to hunt down a scorned mermaid when she finds out she has bigger fish to fry. Her mother—a powerful witch—has been abducted. And the most likely villain is her mother’s enemy, Francesca Rosencratz.

Being a familiar to a sexy monster hunter has its perks, but Max wants more. He might look like a cat, but he’s also Sam’s best friend . . . and the man who loves her. But in order to defeat Francesca, he’ll have to shift into his human form, something he’s avoided. Because once he’s officially a shifter, he’ll have to join the Brigade. And that could take him away from Sam for good.

But Francesca’s becoming increasingly dangerous. She and a mysterious ally are working to take down the Brigade, and take over the paranormal community. Sam will have to dig deep if she’s going to save her mom. But Max will have to risk even more . . . to save Sam.

When supernatural creatures go rogue, who are you going to call?
                                                                   The Hunters’ Watch Brigade!

Max takes his duties to Sam very seriously, “not that I’ve identified yet,” Max said, his voice steady, purposeful. “But I’m watching you.” I liked Sam girl knew how to manage her father, “easy, Dad.” She looked up toward the surface. “Good gods. You could cause an earthquake with that thing. Tidal waves. Typhoons.” Sam could be quite cheeky, “does this something have something to do with making love? Because if not, I’m really not interested,” Sam said. He smacked her bottom playfully..." I loved this book, I fell in love with Max, these characters were memorable, and you just wanted the secondary characters to get books of their own.

HWB: Initiation is an exquisitely written, ponderous novel that visualizes the women of today: Women are no longer a damsel in distress, and they no longer need saving. A truly remarkable literary piece you would love from beginning to end.

Hunter’s Watch Brigade: Initiation written by Paula Millhouse is a story revolving Sam, a demigod who works in Hunters’ Watch Brigade, together with his familiar, Max—a cat that lives to protect and unknowingly, loves her. Something unexpected happened to Sam’s mother, and their new ‘mission’ is where the story will begin.

Let’s talk about the plot and characters. The story’s main characters are Samantha, a demigod who saves human lives. Meanwhile Max—the talking cat—is Sam’s familiar who is overly-protective and aggressive—brings the adventure and thrill of the story to life. If I had to choose my favorite scene for that, it will be the scene where Samantha froze Shade—just to protect Max! My dear friends, that is one hella-scene, a very romantic and moving scene.

The way how Samantha carries herself will catch your attention and depicts the women of today: They are no longer a damsel in distress, and they no longer need saving. So, in my opinion, this book simply proves us that we are really in the Feminist Era.

Aside from that, the story was well-balanced, enlightening us about the life of the different characters—their common ground that somehow contributes to the conflict in the story. Another thing is that the author convincingly and skillfully manipulates the story of Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus to create Samantha’s powerful weapon—Atlantis, and mind you, Atlantis will play a huge ‘role’ in the story.

The way the author writes the story is simple; it is very easy to read and difficult to forget She created exceptional characters and plot that is totally unique. This book is really one of a kind, so I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially readers who love stories about demi-god, witchcraft, and cats.

DISCLAIMER: I requested for an ARC of this book in NetGalley and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. The description and the cover of the book had caught my attention
