A really nice and well designed book to understand the colours and how to use them, it identifies and explains Colour palette and charts, opposite colours, how to use different colours together as well as how to use same colour in different tones.
It starts the introduction from how to set your studio / organise your materials and covers what you will need then goes into well explained colouring methods and information on colours. There is lots of terminology and methods to learn.
I would recommend this book to people who want a kick start to oil / acrylic painting.
Also, It would have been nice to see some watercolour advice.

I loved this book so much! I am a mixed media artist also doing tutorials on YouTube. I mainly use all types of acrylics in my projects. I love them. It was a nice surprise this book focused mainly on acrylics and oil paint users. It starts with basics and tells all techniques step by step also supported with good quality, vibrant pictures. It focuses on mostly nature in its demonstrations, which I loved too.
First it goes over different colours while talking about getting other colours over the main ones. Hues, values, all of them are explained. Lighting, different angles, etc. Then, the book goes through lots of nature elements like clouds, waves, trees, autumn, etc to show how to mix colours to get the intended look.
I really enjoyed it, I will be using it as a guide for sure and I would recommend it.
My only criticism is to be clear about the dominance on acrylics, and oil paints, also the scope of examples. For example, there are no portraits, buildings, etc. Other than that, if you love acrylics, and nature executions, this book is for you.

Thanks a lot to NetGalley and the publisher for granting a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Beginning of Color Mixing has got to be one of the most vibrant and beautiful art guides I’ve read in quite some time, which I feel like is saying something. The artist, Kimberly Adams, certainly has full right to be teaching others about color theory and mixing colors, based on the artwork shown in this book. Half the time I found myself distracted by her beautiful work, only to remember I was supposed to be reading the book…
This guide is wonderfully comprehensive, from cover the basics (like setting up a workspace and how to understand a color wheel), to color placement and individual tips on the use of many different colors. I want to say there are about three to four pages for the most common colors used, and the artwork that goes along with each guide is both beautiful and supportive.
Also included are some tips and tricks for painting from life, with some really fantastic step by step images showing the progression of a few different pieces of her work. I particularly loved these images – seeing how Kimberly Adams layered the paintings was both fascinating and informative.
I really enjoyed reading this guide by Kimberly Adams, and I would love to see more of her work. I’ll be honest and say that I hadn’t heard of her before this, but can now safely say she’s gained a new fan.

This book introduces colour mixing, colour combination and, of course, gives an introduction in colour theory.

I especially liked the information on which colours work well together and how to mix the colours od one family to make them appear warmer or colder. Futher, the introduction to painting colourful clouds was very interesting.

Kimberly Adams' book on color mixing is an excellent introduction to color theory and the use of colors in painting. The book gives thorough advice on different color mixes and practical issues concerning painting with color.
Particularly the examples of color schemes caught my attention as very useful and inspiring. Although the book is intended for artists interested in painting, it can be valuable for other kind of use too. For me it gave inspiration for web page color design and I think it would be very useful for a home decorator planning on the color schemes.
Color placement - the question of how to know what color to choose for each area of a painting was an especially interesting point. Adams' answers to this problem that probably most artists face every now and then is excellent.
It is evident that Kimberly Adams has a long experience with using colors and she has thought through the color theory in a profound level. Her advice is detailed for all possible color shades and their use in painting. This is one of the best books on color theory I've ever read.

I found Portfolio: Beginning Color Mixing: Tips and techniques for mixing vibrant colors and cohesive palettes
by Kimberly Adams. A beautifully written book. There's so much information throughout this book about core concepts and mixing techniques of mixing colours and for them to become other colours. It explains in great detail how to create your work with colours and how to apply these. I loved the way Kimberly explained the basic theory of the colours and how they work within the book and then adding these to your own picture.

This is a must for any beginner who wants to learn how to mix paints etc and them add them to your picture etc.

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is VERY GOOD. Especially as I forgot some of these techniques and they will be used again whilst I create my work in my craft room x

A lot of good information. Focus on oil/acrylic and a lot of terms and methodology. But an interesting read to help understand color mixing and painting.

Beginning Color Mixing is an art techniques book on how to pick what colors to use to create vivid, colorful artwork. The author creates colorful, finger-painted, Impressionistic landscapes. Her technique is to use vivid colors straight from the tube (mainly oil, but also acrylic or watercolor) and place dabs of color next to each other to create eye-catching paintings. (This book won't be of much help if you're looking for instruction on mixing your own colors on a palette; it's about placing color on the canvas.)

The author briefly covered tools, materials, etc., and then discussed the basics of colors and color theory. Then she talked about the main colors--reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, neutrals, black and white--as well as the specific paint colors that she uses to create a range of red (or other) colors in her paintings. She also gave tips about specific paint colors that look good together and how to use color to draw the eye or unify the painting.

She was very easy to understand and her demonstrations were clear and well-illustrated. She provided 4 step-by-step landscape demonstrations (lighthouse and ocean, clouds and a field, fall trees, and more trees) in her Impressionistic style. Overall, I'd recommend this book to any painter who is drawn to the author's vivid, colorful paintings--like the one on the cover.

This book should be required reading for any beginning artist who paints. Though to me the title was slightly misleading since I thought that it would specifically show how to mix pigments to get a specific color. Though there is a bit of that it is more about how to pick colors to use to help draw the eye of the viewer of a painting to different areas through the use of specific colors. I do not paint myself so I found this book to be a revelation. The step by step approach will be helpful to those who would like to venture into painting as an artist.

This is a colorful book of tips and techniques for mixing and using colors. From setting up your workspace, understanding color, to painting with color, this book has it all, along with the plethora of colorful pictures to use as visual aids. I love color and can appreciate the knowledge needed to achieve the colors I imagine for my paintings, whether on cakes, paper, tile or canvas.

With a lot of practice, you will be able to dream and translate your colors to canvas too.
I received this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

This helpful Beginning Colour Mixing book is a wonderful addition to any artist starting out. It explains everything so well, from the colour palette to putting the colours onto a canvas in the right order.

The first chapter "Getting Started" explains how to set up your work space, the painting tools & materials required and some basic painting techniques.

The Colour Theory chapter covers helps the reader understand the colour wheel and colour schemes.  Painting with Colour further expands on the previous chapter, explaining each colour in turn. Plus using one colour on a card it shows how other colours work together, a great way to understand the colour palette even more.

The last chapter shows 4 different painted images that have been broken down into steps to achieve the finished painting.

Throughout the book there are useful tips and lots of colour pictures and colour schemes to help you achieve painting something yourself.

Excellent book on color! The pictures are gorgeous and vibrant and it is great for beginners and even people a bit more experienced.

This is a fabulous book for anyone who is starting out painting (and probably more experienced painters would also learn something ). I splash colour about on a canvas, sometimes I get lucky and it looks good, but most times it is an awful mess and I need to paint over it.
This book is really easy to read and understand, all the sections from "getting started"," colour theory", "painting with colour" to "painting from life" have been well explained, illustrated and examples of are shown.
I particularly love the "painting with colour" section as it is extremely informative and illustrates what different colour placement make.
I really recommend this book both for its information and easy reading style used

If you've wondered why your paint colors are not intense or muddy, this book provides a manual for choosing a basic palate to mix colors. It includes instructions for choosing tools, values, and various color schemes.

The styles demonstrated are varied and interesting. This would be a good primer for those beginning to paint or working with intermediate skills. I enjoyed it and recommend it.

I really enjoy Beginning of Color Mixing. I am teaching my eight-year-old son about color theory and mixing colors. This book is a wonderful guide! It starts with the basics like understanding the color wheel and scaffolds up, so it is appropriate for all “levels” of artists. It is also appropriate for all ages. The techniques author Kimberly Adams shares are useful, yielding magnificent results. I highly recommend this book!

This is a great book for beginners or experienced artists who have been away from painting for a while. Everything you need to start or get back to using color in your art, simply stated.

This I think is my favorite acrylic painting book so far!

At first glance that cover just caught my eye. I saw the vivid painting and those beautiful textures and I just had to know what this was all about.

Being an artist who first worked with watercolors, acrylics were a whole different world for me. Being self-taught made it all the more complicated. Kimberly’s book was a gem to find! Her tips with colors and acrylic painting were extremely helpful. And the step-by-step guide - you guys! They were fantastic! I’m not saying they were easy, no! In fact being so used to a different medium, the layering and texturing for the activities were challenging. I do not often sit on a painting for more than 2 hours because of my other duties, but I did one that took me 4 hours to barely finish. But the end results were so worth it.

After I created the first activity in the book, I became addicted! I wanted to try every single one and even recreate the ones I already did.

Fun and yet challenging but very rewarding, if you’re up for that, then this book is a definite must-have!

This is a detailed book on color in art and color mixing - and, if you know me and read all the reviews I write on art/creative books, then you will not be surprised when I say that I love the author's introduction talking about how there are rules when it comes to color mixing, but those rules are meant to be broken anyway!

Although in order to break a rule you first have to understand it, which is why Kimberly Adams wrote this book for us! Color is not something I use a lot in my art mainly because I am always scared by messing up my drawings with color, but that is actually only because I never took the time to understand how color works.

This book goes in great detail talking about each color and how to mix them and use them together! Such a great help for myself and anyone looking to learn more and understand colors!

Thank you Quatro amd Netgalley for this ARC.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and how it has encouraged me to get out my paints and experiment with my creativity.
Highly recommended.

This is an extremely useful book/guide to novices in color mixing. It starts with the basics and explains various techniques very thoroughly. I have always struggled with color mixing and so this has been very helpful to me.

While I've been an amateur artist for some years, I am always interested in the topic of colour mixing, particularly as new formulations appear over time. Useful for beginners too, as the advice is most helpful in using bright colours - new artists can be timid with colour! A great reference for any artist or those hoping to be!

This was a excellent source for learning the coloring mixing. A number of techniques that can really help a beginner. I find myself using this quite a lot for references .

This book is wonderful at explaining color theory in a way that makes it easy to understand. Not only does she explain when to use certain colors, she offers techniques for picking your pallets. She applies paint straight to the pallet and mixes it by adding other shades. It’s a completely different method than what I’ve always used and I can’t wait to put it to practice to see how it works with my own style of art.
