I’m old enough to drive a car, buy alcohol, and enter a club.
I’m old enough to take responsibility for my actions.
I’m old enough for her, no matter what her middle-aged friends or society says.
No matter she’s the age of my mother.
No matter why or how I met her.
I’ll take those secrets to my grave, and her with them, if those secrets don’t ruin us first.

Can't tell the last time I picked up a book and was so caught up with it that everything else was forgotten. Words just can explain how absolutely I am looking forward to Part 2.

The story starts out with Jane being handed marching orders from her husband. Enter Brian in the perfect set-up for her downfall only Brian falls in love.

The mere fact that the heroine is older but still so innocent is adorable. Brian teaches her what is means to be confident - even though he's so much younger, his experience makes him so much more mature.
Im counting the days until I get tge next chapter.

Thank you for ARC opportunity! I had a little slow start in the beginning but picked up quickly and finished at race speed. An older woman and younger guy I had many thoughts but turned out steamy beautiful and the story has twists turns deceit... Amazing job again!

If you are dubious because of the older woman/younger man premise, don’t be! This author’s past works have set me up for high expectations - ones that she certainly upheld with skill and conviction in Old Enough. I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put this down!

Jane Logan is blindsided by her spineless husband’s demand for a divorce on the night of their twelfth wedding anniversary. She is certainly unlucky in love, because before she married François, Jane was hopelessly head-over-heels in love with her fiancé, Evan, who died in a tragic accident. Truth is, she’s been mourning Evan ever since. She’s been content in her life, but never happy. Until an unexpected encounter with a middle-of-night intruder leads to lust and longing that she never thought to feel again.

Brian Michaels is a first-year university student who is juggling poverty, family, and unwanted attention from the criminal elements that rule the rough side of town. His introduction to Jane is unorthodox, but from the moment he laid eyes on her he knew wanted to protect this woman and stake a claim.

Brian is mature beyond his years. Jane is too naive despite hers. They have both endured a lot in their respective lives and are yet facing greater threats, both known and unknown. Their unfolding story was beautiful, sensual and mesmerizing. The author does a fantastic job of communicating Brian and Jane’s desires, crafting an irresistible bubble of perfect passion for them to occupy, while subtly building a wall of tension that circles their bliss and threatens to bring them down. Old Enough is incomplete without its pair, Young Enough (to be released August 28, 2018.)

This is a sincere review of a NetGalley ARC.

Gah! I wasn’t expecting that cliffhanger! I knew there’d be a cliffy, I could feel it coming but the story finished at 90% and damn was that ending ominous!

The first chapter for book 2 is included at the end, but I’m not spoiling myself. I’m gonna wait impatiently for the second instalment.

I really enjoy Charmaine Pauls’s writing. From the beginning she manages to suck you into the story and feel it as though it’s you living the story, not the characters.

Jane and Brian are prefect match for each other and I’m fidgeting in my seat because I know something big is about to happen, and not the good kind either!

My heart literally ached for Jane in many parts of this book. She’s been through so much and it seems she just can’t catch a break from life, and the people in her life!

Fingers crossed she gets her happy ending, and certain people in this book get what they deserve!

Old enough is the perfect blend of romance, taboo and mystery.

5 stars!

The story line was refreshing and different from what I have read and this make me enjoy it even more.Brian is sweet, protective and sexy.Jane is an interesting heroine.I loved her most of the time but there were some moments she frustrate me.

I can't wait to read the next book!!

Having read Ms. Pauls’ Loan Shark Duet, I was not sure what to expect from this new duology. It definitely is not as dark as Loan Shark but it has elements of despair and brought out the anger in me over the injustices in these two people’s lives. Brian is definitely an old soul who had to grow up too early and is more responsible than anyone I know that is his age. What can I say about Jane except that I cannot help but feel sorry for her and her circumstance. I do want to shake her a bit and say “WTH? Stand up to these people”. But when Jane and Brian get together, hot off the charts chemistry. I love how he takes cares of her and is not worried about their age difference. I was reading along and the ending blew me away. Secrets will do you in every time. Cannot wait for the next installment.

I’m left gasping at the end of this book. I need the next book NOW!
The story of Jane and Brian has you literally galloping through this page turner.
The characters are so well written and yet again you are place somewhere that you know will end in tears but you don’t know which way the gut wrenching tragedy will come from.
There are a number of characters in this book that bring out that passionate side of you. I’m not a violent person but Debs need a bitch slap.
I can’t say enough good things about Brian and Jane. Brian is walking a tightrope trying to avoid the nasty Monkey and Jane is totally oblivious to this, and this is not the only issue.
I can’t say too much I don’t want to spoil things
Brian and Jane relationship is just ..................HOT😍😍
well worth 5 stars

I discovered Charmaine Pauls through her Loan Shark Duet which was taboo-y perfection. When I saw she had another duet coming out, I leapt on it. Get ready for an erotic adventure that will leave you screaming for more. Book hangover mode, here we come!

Jane has to deal with some pretty toxic people and when Brian comes along, she’s drawn to his compassion as well as his take-charge, alpha air of command. I really can’t go more into the plot than that. But there’s an age gap, our Jane is in her forties and Brian is barely twenty.

Both have to deal with their demons; they just come in different forms. By the end, the cliffhanger will just slay you because you know the ultimate secrets will be revealed soon, but how and what the repercussions will be? It’s anybody’s guess.

I’m still crying tears at that epically unfair cliffhanger. Luckily, our wait won’t be long. *makes grabby hands*

5 Blazing, Scorching, Get-Me-Book-Two Stars!

Wow! My first reaction is surprised at the ending! I don’t like cliffhangers, but this one definitely makes you want more of Jane&Brian’s journey. For me it was a slow start, but built up quickly with some really awakening moments for both of them. I’m excited for the conclusion in book 2, August needs to come now.

I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest and truthful review. Old Enough is the story of an older woman and younger man and their relationship. But it is also so much more than that. Jane is a 40 year old recently divorcee and Brian is an almost 20 year old man. Sociaty their friends and anyone else who matters to Brian and Jane think their relationship is Taboo. Brian doesn't care what anyone thinks of what him and Jane are doing and it's all Jane can think of. Brian is hit with a task that he can't turn down because it would make life so much better for him and his family. Little does he know that to fulfill the task he'll have to hurt the one person he can't get enough of. Jane is trying to put her life back together after her husband leaves her. She is a little unsure of herself at first but Brian seems to bring out a side that she thought had long ago died with her fiancée. This book ends on a cliff hanger and I found myself screaming this can't be it! I have to know what happens! Old enough will keep you wanting more and leave you wondering what just happened?! I can't wait for the second book to come out so that I know how Brian and Jane's story will end.

I was curious about this story and what she would do to make this reverse May to September romance an okay situation. It is funny how people view others when the man is older – that is acceptable. However, when the woman is older, then that is seen differently. Shame and disgust can be evident even from your good friends.

This story is one of those stories. A hidden secret romance that has a huge secret attached to it. However, this young man has an old soul and is dedicated to this woman, regardless of what others say and do. That can be very dangerous.

The author has brought us a solid glimpse at this budding and somewhat dark romance, with a hint of danger and a taste of suspense attached. Loaded with super hot connections and plenty of erotic steam, you will need to make sure the fans are running to keep yourself cool. I am definitely rooting for Team Brian! I need to find me one!

However, this book is just the wind up to the whole romance. Ending on a hot cliffhanger, we have to wait a bit to get the rest of the story. I, for one, cannot wait to see how this one will play out!

I almost passed on this book because of the age gap trope, but I'm so glad I didn't because this book was unputdownable. I couldn't get enough of Jane and Brian's budding relationship. Although young, Brian is wise and mature beyond his years and his character was so believable, even I fell in love with him a little bit. I love what he brings out in Jane's character and I hope she continues to grow in the next book. My heart really felt so many emotions for her. She got so many bombs dropped on her and handled them with poise and grace. I do hope she stands up for herself a little more in the next book. And I hope the people that have wronged her get theirs. I know things are going to get worse before they get better, and I can't wait to read it all in Young Enough.

WOW! What a read! A cliffhanger too...argh! This is my first read by Charmaine and definitely not my last. The characters were believeable and the writing was spot on...not too wordy...and a joy to read. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started. This book is most women's dream...an much younger man who is sexy, hot and totally into us! I loved Brian. He is sweet, protective, and trying to do the right thing. I am so "upset" that I have to wait for book 2...I want it NOW!

The main character, Jane, is a woman facing a major change in her life. She finds out over dinner that her husband, the cold and disgusting Francois, has cheated on her and now wants a divorce. Years of marriage now over, Jane quietly moves on because she has a daughter to raise. When a hot, extremely younger guy named Brian trespasses on her property with his friends one night, she never thought she would ever see him again nor fall in lust for him. But nothing in this story is what it seems.

I love this story, but the cliffhanger ending makes me want to scream. This is a story with an older woman and a younger man. I loved Brian. The way he supports his family and stands up for himself and the ones he loves is wonderful. Jane is too much of a doormat for a strong guy like Brian. She allows everyone in her life to treat her like dirt, from her friends, to her ex, to her daughter. So sad. Even with this dynamic, the story is fascinating.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley for my honest review.

"Old Enough" is the first novel that I have read by Charmaine Pauls. It is the steamy tale of the attraction between Jane, a woman in her mid-forties, and Brian, a man who is not quite twenty. The story abounds with secrets, threats, and unknown past histories. Jane and Brian each have secrets that they do not/cannot reveal for fear of spoiling the love they share. However, everything is coming to a head. Monkey, the neighborhood mob boss, is a constant threat, not just to Brian but to all those Brian loves. Then there is the elusive Benjamin; we don’t yet know what his ulterior motives are. Finally, there is the gypsy’s ominous warning to Jane about trust and betrayal

The story flows satisfyingly and ends on a bit of a cliff hanger. It leaves you curious as to how all the secrets will be revealed and the impact that they will ultimately have on Brian and Jane’s relationship. Can’t wait to find out in Young Enough, the second novel in this duology.

I was generously given an ARC for a honest review. This book was a first for me in the May/ Dec romance trope. Brian is 19 and Janet is twice his age with a 13 yr old daughter. The book deals with the baggage each character brings to a relationship and that's not even including the age thing. Brian is wonderful....even though he is only 19, he acts so much older and mature, probably because he's had to take care of his mom and sister since he was 9. He is a dominant male in and out of the bedroom and it makes for plentiful scorching hot sex scenes! Jane is a very vulnerable individual and at times I wanted to shake her so that she would get a backbone. But then her past holds her back so much...it's understandable. The whole book was very suspenseful because I kept expecting the pressures on Brian to explode! I can't wait for the next book!

I received Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls for free in exchange for an honest review. I didn't know what to expect when I first started it, but found that I got into the story quite quickly. I found the characters quite engaging (other than the ex-husband. He was a bit of a douche.) I was very sad to find it over and am anxiously awaiting the second installment. I am hoping to read more by this author, as this was my first by her.

Holy wow! This book is dark, dirty and totally depraved in the best ways. The story follows middle-aged divorcee Jane who is seduced by a barely legal Brian. Aside from the age difference, their story is full of secrets and skeletons that threaten their long term success. This book was so emotional and totally consuming that at times I needed a break to process their story. Be ready to feel every emotion as you read along. Im definitely looking forward to reading the conclusion. The smut is real people, so this book gets a full 5 chilli peppers of hotness!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book (from NetGalley). All thoughts and opinions are my own. This novel had a lot of depth. The backstory was just as good as the advertised excitement. With fully developed characters, who have motives for their actions, this was a fabulous read. I was better able to relate to the female protagonist, but also really appreciated the point-of-view alternating between the two characters. It was fascinating--I couldn't put it down. I anxiously await the next installment coming out in August! (This seems like the best medicine for a 40 something divorcee, however, their was enough fore-shadowing to make me worry about the future of these characters!!!).
Thank you to both NetGalley and Charmaine Pauls.

My, my, my! Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls was not at all what I was expecting, it was a whole lot more!

I don't want to ruin the story, but I will say that from the beginning I was hook on Brian and Jane's romance. I thought that this was going to be a quick and erotic story. What I got was a super erotic, highly involved story that was so much more than what meets the eye. And because I am a weirdo, I was super excited that there was a cliffhanger because that means there is more coming and I cannot wait!

This was my first book by Ms. Pauls and I was not disappointed. The story flowed well and kept me intrigued all the way to the end. Age ain't nothing but a number, pick this hot as sin book up ASAP!

Mind blown! My heart broke for the heroine. Her ex took everything from her and kept taking everything. I found that it was hard to read and have to put it aside for awhile. Amazing writing that evoked so much emotion. Another hit out of the park by this author!

It's very refreshing to read a book where the female is the older partner and not the male. This was an engaging story that sucked me in. The characters, although not too believable in every aspect, are still a joy to read. Specially their interactions with one another. You can really tell just how much he wants our heroine. Sexy and enticing, this was a great read. Recommended.

Hot!!! That is the only way to describe this book. Charmaine Pauls does it again. Jane suffers great loss between the death of the love of her life to a marriage of convenience to betrayal and divorce, but this leads her to Brian who comes to her in the beginning for the wrong reasons. Brian was hired to do a job as he needs money for his sister, but in meeting Jane there is more important things in the world than money and that is connection, uncontrollable attraction and the possibility of love. They have a connection that they can’t deny, but others have different ideas that will jeopardize that possibility.

Wow! This was so much more than I anticipated!

I’ve never been a huge fan of the older woman/younger man trope but I’ve loved everything I’ve read by this author so I trusted her and took a step right off into the deep end of the crazy world she always seems to create. I couldn’t be happier about it.

Jane’s husband leaves her for another woman and her life is suddenly in turmoil. Her greatest love was lost years ago and so her marriage has been one of safety, security and friendship. Now she’s faced with trespassers in the middle of the night, a stranger who cares for her yard and garden, and the desire for a man much too young for her. When her body overrides her good sense, she gives in to the yearning he arouses in her and finds herself releasing the dragon within that has been asleep for well over a decade.

Brian is taken from the moment he first lays eyes upon Jane. She’s everything he shouldn’t want and all that he longs for. When he finagles himself into her life he’s in it for keeps. Age doesn’t matter. His is an old soul and his life has been one to add to his soul’s experiences. Now that he has Jane almost where he wants her, he’s walking a tightrope to keep not only her safe, but his family and himself as well.

I am definitely in love with Brian! Oh my gawd! He’s everything you could want in a book boyfriend and more. His desire for Jane is off the charts and he doesn’t hold back for a moment. He then follows up with the upmost care and concern for her. Her happiness is all that matters to him and he will do anything to see she has what she needs even as he ensures she remains his forever.

Jane is damaged and broken and a bit uncertain about everything that involves her relationship with Brian. Except for the unwavering desire they have for one another. It doesn’t take her long to give in to the desire but she’s still battling outside forces that threaten to steal her happiness in regards to her daughter. I absolutely hurt for the things she has to endure in order to seal Abby’s desires, even at the cost of Jane’s own peace of mind.

This is a fast paced read with secondary characters that I’m not sure I trust and some I’m supposed to trust but can’t allow myself to freely do so. The steam is off the charts hot and holy cheese and crackers, I’m sure my kindle was singed a time or two. I’m not a BDSM fan but the little bit that is shared between the hero and heroine was just too perfect to be anything but delicious.

There are so many things taking place inside this story all at one time and those things kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting for just one tiny break to learn where everything is headed. However, this author refused to feed the beast within me and continued to tease and taunt me until the very end of this installment of the duet. I need book 2 like right now!

Old Enough is a taboo situation. The older woman being seduced by the younger man. It is naughty to think about but you have no idea!!!

He may be younger but he is very experienced. His control is admirable but it's his delectable fantasies that will make you wish you had a Brian. Naughty or nice, he is everything you need, want, and lust after.

It's so hard not to be jealous of Jane. Until you meet the other half of the drama in this book, you will want to shake the living daylights out of 2/3 the characters in this book. I guarantee it. And just as you are ready to battle your doubts....BAM!

It's over. Now we wait!!!!

So, I became a fan of Charmaine Pauls when reading the Loan Shark Duet that I absolutely LOVED!

This of course is a bit of a different story, not as dark as the Loan Sharks books. The story is about younger man courting older women. Brain is a younger man from the wrong side of the tracks. Jane lives int he well to do area but has suffered through so much. There is incredible chemistry between Brain and Jane. In each of their own ways they are helping the other along in their hard times. There angst within the story, that people deal with every day that make the story very easy to read, almost like having a heart to heart with a friend.

I love this book and cannot wait to read the next book "Young Enough" Five Stars!

Wow. Where to begin? I’m not a huge fan of “cougar” books but I was pleasantly surprised by this. I love the narrative behind each character, specifically the main characters. They both have their separate lives and individual struggles but together they work.

I became so invested in this story, I found myself being upset for the heroine when she was mistreated. Oh and let me tell you about the steamy scenes..... I’ve reread them a couple of times!
Can not wait for the next installment!

This book hooked me from the beginning! Jane is an older woman with much sadness in her life. Brian is a young man that is attracted to Jane the moment he sees her. This was a good read and take on the older woman/younger man trope. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

Charmaine Pauls doesn’t write conventional romance novels. No, this is definitely NOT your grandmother’s romance. Her stories are not only unconventional, they even seem disturbing at first. But within the first chapter you find yourself immersed in the story and the characters, rooting for a couple that would normally scandalise you. An older heroine and young hero romance is not as unusual as before and yet we still find ourselves reluctant to believe it. “Old Enough” will leave you not only believing in love at first sight and soulmates but will also leave you breathless and very very hot.

Jane lost the love of her life but managed to find contentment and happiness in her marriage and daughter. Her whole life comes crumbling down when her husband asks for a divorce. Just when she believes that she will never find passion and excitement in her life again, she meets Brian. A man much younger than her who seems to know her body and her needs more than anyone else she has ever known. She may believe that what they share is a secret tryst, but Brian has other plans. He believes that he has found the one and isn’t willing to let anything and anyone get in their way.

Charmaine Puals proves once again what an amazing storyteller she is. This is a romance that you won’t be able to put down or forget. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for Jane and Brian...

Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls is book one in The Age Between Us series. This is the story of Brian and Jane. Jane just got confronted by her husband saying that he is leaving her and pursuing a relationship with a women he worked with and now loves. Jane of course is shocked and surprised that he would leave her after 12 years of marriage.
Brian who will be 20 in 8 months has struggled to care for his family and really is older that his physical age through experience. Brian needing money for his little sister takes a 'job' that sets in motion a secret that may end up ruining something he didn't know he wanted.
I am usually not the old woman / younger man romance reader but this book makes me want to read more of them. Really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next installment in their story!

Jane just had her life blown apart. Not only is her husband leaving her but the women is pregnant. Then he tells her he wants the house and gives her three months to move out. Brian is hired to get naked pictures of Jane for fifty grand. Since he was 7 he has had to take care of his mom. Since his father left them while his mom was pregnant he also has a sister to care for. Because he needs this money he thinks he can do this. Being so young the way he met Jane was by jumping her fence and using her pool. It was the middle of the night and he had his two best friends with him. When she came out and told them to leave everything Changed for Brian. She is exactly the woman he wants. Her like’s mature refined women. They start a affair he craves control she likes being controlled in the bedroom. Their are other factors here that are stress on both of them. Her daughter is getting close to her stepmother. He is forced to date someone he doesn't want. Can the make this work it doesn't look good but they are not the norm. We don't have to wait too long for the second part of their story it comes out August 28, 2018. And it promises to answer all questions. It is only a two-part series.I say we because I too will be waiting.

When I asked for a copy of this book I was expecting something great, considering I've just read The Loan Shark Duet by Charmaine Pauls. I was in awe of the author's work and I'm so glad to say this book left me with the same, or at least similar, feelings of deep satisfaction.

I know it's the first part of a duet. I knew what I was getting into but again, the author did an outstanding job by giving the reader an ending that satisfied the questions from this book and left other handing, enough to want to read the next book right now. I come to think that Charmaine Pauls has master the art of cliff-hangers, except it doesn't feel like one.

Jane got the shock of her life when her husband told her he was leaving her on the night of their twelve anniversary. They have a daughter together that I may be inclined to believe he doesn't feel like she's actually HIS daughter, but someone else. This was not expressed in the story, it's just my mind running crazy ideas.

Brian introduction in this story was a shock in and on itself. I was not expected to see that in the first chapter but I have to admit that was a damn good hook after the "I'm leaving you" scene before, in the same chapter. How he managed to fall for Jane and the things he has to do are only adding to his personality and how I ended up liking him a lot. He makes a lot of questionable decision but...

There's this one scene with the fortune teller. OMG, that was plain awesome and that's where my brain started running rampage with the conspiracy theories about what happened in the past.

I don't think this book is for everyone that likes the old/younger troupe in romance. There are moments that you question your own sanity because you're liking this. Jane and Brian are over the age of 18 but still, sometimes I wonder why I like this story so much. I guess the author is a secret witch?

The darkness, the naughtiness, the feeling of "this is so wrong", the suspense, the mystery, the conspiracy theories my brain came up with, all of that wrap this book with a beautiful dark red bow. I can hardly wait to read the finale for this couple.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book provided by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I really was captivated by this book! This is a very intriguing cougar story. Brian is made an offer he can't refuse. He decides to act upon it, and ends up meeting Jane. She's much older than him, and in the process of a painful divorce. She's now a single mother, who has been through a very tragic past, that we barely get a glimpse of, in this first book of this series. Brian is extremely attracted to Jane. She's not ready to see the very young man as a possible love interest. Fortunately for her, Brian doesn't take no for an answer. This was a very engrossing story that I'm still trying to figure out. Really loved the intense sexual chemistry these two shared. Can Jane allow Brian into her life and out in the open, to become scrutinized by society? Can Brian tell Jane the real reason he met her? I can't wait to find out all the twist and turns that this story will reveal in the next book. Charmaine Pauls has a way of drawing you in and leading you on to a fantastic, erotic journey!

This was the first book I have read by Charmaine Pauls. I was very intrigued by the synopsis and after reading Ms. Pauls bio I knew I just couldn't pass on reading this book. I am so glad that I took the chance. This book was so different, the twist of the older woman and younger man, I loved it! I really enjoyed the author's style of writing, and the attention to character development was spot on.
This is Jane and Brian's story. I immediately fell in love with Jane, how could I not, she has both a tragic and courageous side to her. I was amazed how Ms. Paules was able to develop Brian's character, who is only nineteen, into a strong, dominant but also caring man. The way these two characters meet was definitely out of the ordinary, a bit of a twist there. The author also did a great job in developing the secondary characters some of which I liked and wanted to hug and some I really wanted to slap.. Right.. Across.. The.. Face!!! You will have to decide for yourself on that account. I also enjoyed all the conflict between the characters in this book.
The story was both detailed and fast paced, with deceit, lies and everything in between and that kept me turning the pages and reading well into the night. There was also some interesting plot twists that I didn't see coming. Some of the storylines were sad, but the way in which the characters dealt with these issues had me admiring them even more. The romance that develop between Jane and Brian was spectacularly written. Loved the forbidden romance and the erotic scenes were panty melting. I honestly could not put this book down. There is a cliffhanger, and I will be insane till the end of August when the next book is published. The saving grace is I know it will be another outstanding read, so worth the wait. Old Enough is NOT a book that you should pass up. Happy reading.

So sexy, steamy and taboo!

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

P L O T

I’ve always believed age is just a number and people can love whoever they want. Love is a feeling, an emotion, it knows no time, no gender, and no race, no number. So why are others shunned by the public?

This book is super hot I tell you. Brian with the rope on the cover? You better prepare yourself because that’s a scene in the book and it was HAWT! Fire baby! They’re obviously from different social class, and that’s one of the most exciting forbidden romance. Then comes their huge age gap, which should not be a problem, but society right?

The beauty of a blooming relationship. When you can’t get your hands off each other and can barely go on a day without hearing the other’s voice or see them. The odds are still with them in this book but I bet good money it’ll be stacked against them in the second book.

C H A R A C T E R S

They’re both kinky and I love it!

Brian Michaels

He had to take care of his mom and sister at a very young age so he had to grow up early. That’s how he knows Jane is the one for him. He may be young in age but he’s mentally old enough to be with her. I also cried when they were talking about his confidence and not being ashamed of his life and obvious display of struggle to make ends meet.

Jane Logan

Jane is heartbroken and hasn’t opened up since the death of her one true love years ago. That is until Brian came along and he awakened the sleeping dragon. I love how she doesn’t act on impulse and easily understands Brian and how he way react if she does a certain activity. She’s super smart and a great mother.

Lots of people hate Debbie but I seriously think she’s not that bad. I think she’s genuinely trying. She may have crossed some lines but it doesn’t mean it wasn’t out of love. Jane is just having a hard time adjusting to her growing daughter’s changing perspective in life, topping it all of with her new life problems, her sexy secret and everything else she has to worry about.

W R I T I N G

Charmaine Pauls is just an amazing romance writer. I can always feel the love and lust going through the character’s veins. They are as real as they can be as fictional characters. There was no need to cry in that scene, no one was expected to cry in that scene but I did. It’s either just me of the beautiful way she wrote it. I love it.

O V E R A L L

It was a fun quick read that I enjoyed so much.

Supper excited to see shit go down in the next and final book. I hope Jane won’t be a bitch when she finds out the truth, I hope Brian will get off the blackmail and I just wish for everyone to be happy!

This was a novel I couldn't put down! It was steam and so well done. While we're left with a little bit of cliffhanger, the novel is so well done you didn't even know it was ending. Would definitely recommend to those liking a little edgier, erotic, romance novels.

This has been a really good read. I love how you think this will play out in the beginning but you assume it all wrong. I loved the pace of the writting. I wanted to be more selfish and ask for more chapters.

I was grateful to receive a free copy of Old Enough in exchange for an honest review. Charmaine Paul's is a really good writer, and I really enjoyed this book. I was surprised to see that that the story about Jane and Brian went deeper then just an age gap. Brian is very mature for his age, and was delving into some kinky scenes which I was not expecting when I began this book. My biggest disappointment about Young Enough is that there is a part 2, so I never got to finish Jane and Brian's story. As a reader, that is a big pet peeve of mine. That is why I only gave four stars.

Wow. Charmaine Pauls is an excellent writer. Old Enough grips you from the first pages and doesn't let you go. You feel so much for the main characters through her excellent portrayal of all who associate with them. Rarely do I read a book where I just want to jump in a give advice or a hug...or two. Ms. Pauls takes me there. I can't wait to see how book 2 ends!

Old Enough was a fabulous story Charmaine Pauls, OMG I was hooked from start to finish, This is all about Jane and Brian. The characters are so well written and yes it a taboo story about older Woman younger man, As the saying goes you are only as the man you fell 😉😉 Bring on the next one.
A must read, I voluntarily reviewed this book as a Advanced Reader Copy By NetGalley.

This book is all sorts of crazy good.
This is the first time reading an OW/YM title and well if they are all written this well I am inclined to read more. I loved the characters in this book. I loved how Brian and Jane are all flawed yet perfect when together. The chemistry they share is scorching and panty melting, but there are secrets that have yet been completely revealed between the two. Will the secrets that lay between them ruin this blossoming romance that some might deem as inappropriate or will they conquer the secrets as one and form a solid and steady relationship. This cliffhanger book will leave you craving and dying to find out the conclusion to see if life’s curveballs can be overthrown.
Old Enough is a well written and a powerful read. I Need Book 2 ASAP. To see how this story plays out. Jane and Brian both deserve a happy ending and normally I am okay with endings not always being happy because in real life happy endings are far and few between but Brian and Jane deserve a happy ending.

This was a book that I went into with certain expectations based on previous books I've read in this genre but it surpassed all of them.

Really enjoyed the dynamics of the relationship between Jane and Brian, there was no power struggle which I liked. Both characters have secrets that I think may impact on them in book two that's my guess anyway.

I will say that Jane frustrated me so much I wanted her to fight back against them all instead of just rolling with the punches they through at her. I'm hoping that we see her fight back in the next one.

Looking forward to see where the author takes the characters in the next book.

What a great read, can’t wait to find out what happens next for Brian and Jane. I loved the way their relationship started. And developed. Whilst Brian’s motives are laid out from the start, and janes life is a mess that seems to move one way and another. The issues with her daughter moved me, and I could almost feel the emotions pouring off the page.
The story flowed, janes family dilemmas and thoughts, feelings. (God I really felt bad for her with the debs mess, wanted to punch her ex and scream at her daughter), whilst Brian’s dominance and sexuality screamed off the page. I Found him to be a bit of an odd character and yet he was probably the one character tha5 makes the story worth reading. An intense, highly charged and emotional erotic story. Can’t wait to read the follow up.

This story was awesome. I loved the connection they had despite their age difference . The ex husband was a total loser and I hated him from the beginning.
Both books in this series are great reads!!

HOT. That’s the word to describe this book. Jane has been through so much in her 42 years, and now she gets hit with the final blow from her husband. Divorce.
Brian is an old soul in a 19 year old body. He needs money for his struggling family and gets introduced to Jane. They begin a super sexy, dirty affair that needs to be kept secret for both of their benefits.
Tons of back story is revealed about them and tons of conflict, but not so much that takes away from their story, but enough to keep you on edge.
There’s a cliffhanger, but I can’t wait for the rest of the story!

Highly entertaining and very visceral read. I was sucked in from word one and finished in one sitting. I cannot wait until August 28th!

This was a different romance for me, I didn’t think I’d enjoy the older woman and younger man storyline so much but I was wrong, it was an engaging read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
The characters were great. Jane was unsure of her feelings for the young man and Brian had all the confidence in the world, and he wanted Jane.
There’s a great storyline that made me smile and at times made me so mad I could scream. A great read!

Old Enough was an absolutely fabulous read that took this reader by surprise with the intensity of the writing and the overall believability that surrounds the plot. Brian is a wonderful male lead. He is the epitome of the younger man physically, but an old soul with a depth of character you won’t expect. Jane is a complex and troubled woman whose life has literally been on hold. Together the chemistry is undeniable and this extends to an engaging and powerful read. I can’t wait for the next part of this intriguing story.

Kindly provided with a ARC via Netgalley complements of the Author in exchange for an honest review......

When I say Charmaine write such amazing, complex but absolutely gripping reads I would not be doing the extent of her skills justice !. She for me is one of my favorite authors and is the complete package.
To say that the blurb interested me, but I had a few tiny reservations about if I would enjoy a romance story where there was a significant age gap. That's just because of some bad past reads. I should have known Charmaine would deliver a swoon worthy tale with style !.
This was Jane and Brian's tale and don't let their mature names fool you. These two could set a small blaze with their heat x . I found myself captivated and at parts shouting at my kindle (Debbie go jump of a short pier !!!!). Anyway, absolutely fabulous read x

5 Star work Charmaine and many thanks for this opportunity x

Later peeps x

I love the concept of this book. An older women taking back her sexual identity and exploring the darker side with a much younger man. The book gets a 5 for this depiction. She knows how to write some steamy sex scenes. Brian and Jane certainly work well in the bedroom, the garage or even outside for that matter.
The biggest problem I have with the book is how Jane's friends treat her. After 12 plus years of her marriage her husband and child's father leaves her for another women. He gets her pregnant and They kick Jane out of her house and basically take over the life she used to have. Her friends including her Dwight and ex-husband want her to be ok with this. I realize that you can't live angry but come on! I wanted to toss my kindle at times.

I know this is a duet and we still have a lot of unanswered questions so I'm going to reserve judgement until I read the next book.

This story was captivating from the very beginning and I honestly finished it in one sitting. I absolutely loved Brian's character and for him to be on the young side, he sure acts more mature than half of the adults in this story. I enjoyed Jane's character although I wish she was stronger, especially when it came to Francois, Debbie and yes even Abby. I wanted Jane to stand her ground and not give up everything so easily. I hope in the next book she fights for what is hers and what she deserves. Lindy and her father Monkey needs to get in a car and ride off somewhere, anywhere but in the next story. Yes, I know its wishful thinking on my end. Lindy, Monkey, Francois and Debbie along with a few more characters can disappear for all I care; I dislike quite a few of them. This story ends with a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more and I can't wait to see how everything plays out. I'm excited to see if things will go the way I think they will or if I will be completely shocked by everything. No matter what, I'm left wanting more and I can't wait to read the next book. This book is perfect for readers looking for a read that's captivating, has a bit of suspense along with parts that will make you laugh and scenes that will make you blush. I truly enjoyed it.

5* Passionate Stars

This was an engaging story about finding love when you least expect it and when the odds are against you. Jane is in her early 40’s and just coming to terms with her unexpected divorce from her cheating unlikeable husband and Brian who is 19 years old but far from being a teenager. He is very mature and confident. His protectiveness towards raising his younger sister and caring for his mother after his father abandoned them when he was very young was heartfelt.

This hidden secret romance was filled with angst, pain, family drama and secrets between Brian and Jane. The chemistry between Brian and Jane was off the charts hot and sexy.

The book ends on a cliff-hanger and I hope in the follow up book, Young Enough the secrets between Brian and Jane will not detonate and ruin what they have tried so hard to protect and that they get their HEA.

Many thanks to the Author Charmaine Pauls and NetGalley for my copy to read and review.

Wow. How can I get myself a man like this. This blew me away. I have already got the next book on order.
The characters are real and make you feel. Cannot wait for the next one.

I love romance novels. I am a sucker for the true love that conquers all. This novel has this. I was drawn to the taboo of the older woman dating a much younger man. It was a twist that I had not previously explored through reading. This novel was hard for me to put down. I devoured it in less than one day.

Jane is a middle aged woman who gets left by her husband of 12 years. She has a dark secret that she has been keeping for all these years. That dark secret is coming to the surface. A man from her past offers up a large sum of money to disgrace Jane. A young man, Brian, thinks he is up for the job. He briefly checks Jane out from afar. It is love at first sight. Brian knows that Jane is his and he is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. They fall in love with each other quickly, but will love conquer all?

The character development was amazing. Jane is a sophisticated woman who has been in a "loveless" marriage. Jane has depth and drama. Brian had the exact attitude I would expect for someone who was born on the wrong side of town, but trying to better their situation. It was all in the realm of reality for me.

The plot overall was very good to me. I did have a bit of trouble with a few things. The secrets I felt were a little too huge and a bit unbelievable. I was able to get past that because of how well written the novel was. I really could understand the gang life,it would be hard to have this novel without the drama of Monkey and his crew.

What a beautiful story about love and friendships, deceit and betrayal. This book flowed so easily and the characters were painted so that the reader could feel them.
I am looking forward to the story of Brian and Jane, soul mates that they are, to see what will happen next.

***Arc generously provided by NetGalley for review***

This was my first read by Charmaine Pauls and i really enjoyed it. The writing was top-notch and flowed well, along with an exciting storyline all gave for an easy read.

Old Enough is part 1 of 2 and must be read first. It revolves around Jane, a middle-aged woman with a 12 year old daughter, Abby, who's husband (Francois) has just announced he is leaving her for another woman. Don't worry there is no cheating in this story, although he has been seeing Debbie for the last year.
Jane and Francois are in a somewhat loveless marriage, so it wasn't really a shock to her when he left. You see, Jane's real true love, Evan, died 12 years prior from in an accident and Francois took advantage of Jane at a very vulnerable time. But it doesn't end there. There are secrets a plenty... which brings us to Brian.
Brian is the handsome 20 year old man-boy who has been given an offer to good to refuse - 50 thousand dollars if you sleep with Jane. I won't go into the why's, but let's just say when Brian is shown a photo of Jane he sets a plan in motion, this beautiful woman will be his.

Brian sets plans into motion, perhaps not in the most convenient of ways but it works. Brian is a good guy, much more mature than his age, he ends up being a solid support for Jane when her world is turning upside down. With Jane being 20 plus years older, she fights her attraction to Brian, but Brian won't have it, breaking down her defenses they become each others dirty little secret.
Things get quite steamy between the two, with sex a plenty and not just plain old vanilla sex, no... these two are quite adventurous with Brian bringing out Jane's sexual desires that have been laying dormant since before her marriage to Francois. I will say, if a LOT of sex isn't your thing you are going to struggle because these two go at it like rabbits pretty well throughout this book.

We see their relationship grow and Brian really mans-up for Jane. It was nice to watch the way he cared so deeply for her and helped her out when her so-called friends didn't give a shit. I really felt sorry for Jane. Her ex husband, to say it nicely, is a bastard and as for Debbie, I would have kicked her ass! They really put Jane through the wringer, which she handled like a lady, although i wish she had of stuck up for herself a bit more rather than letting them walk all over her?
This story ends with a bang (literally) surprise surprise! Jane needs to decide what's really important to her and go after it. Thankfully, I had part 2 waiting which i went straight into, eager to find out what happens next.

Old Enough was an interesting mix of sex and drama. There are uncovered secrets from the past which you know are going to be juicy, another reason i went straight into part 2. I was gunning for Jane and Brian, going they get their happy ending... but with all the drama, its going to get a lot bad before anything good i would say?
I don't really have any negatives apart from a few things that had me thinking e.g. Jane's husband moved out 2mths prior and are divorced already? This story is set in Sth Africa so things may work differently than in Australia where you have to be separated for 12mths before you can divorce. And my other slight peeve was Brian being so experienced in sex and certain kinks, yet he says his only experience has been from one night stands?
I would recommend this duet to anyone who enjoys the romance/erotic genre.

I found this book engaging and a sexy read. It was nice that the female lead in this book wasn’t just a weak female being led by a man as they often tend to be in erotic fiction these days. This book has a strong story as well as some steamy sex in it.

The second installment in the story of a young man and his older lover, Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls is a dark, gritty erotic romance. Fans of BDSM romances will enjoy this book, along with the older woman/younger man trope. This book is not for the lighthearted, and includes serious themes. It was well-written and is a fast read. You won't want to put it down.

I got an advanced copy of this from NetGalley under my favorite Erotica section. It felt more like a love story. And I loved every minute. Im so upset that I have to wait for book 2. LOL.

In this book a woman finds herself after being unlucky in love. A younger man brings her back to life and back to bed, let's say. I like that it was all so believable. I hate books that make you think "ya right, like that could happen". It was a definite page turner and the sex scenes were awesome!

Passionate, sexy and intense... I was immediately wept away by this story. Delicious and filthy, it pulled me in deep right from the very beginning and never let me go throughout. I LOVE this genre so much but this book was mesmerising. Something different and refreshing, and whether or not it's realistic enough for you, it still made me WANT to believe in the fairytale that if you want something badly enough that anything is possible. That change and happiness is possible and just by having that belief can overcome so much. And even when it frustrated me in parts, but that's the fun of reading I think to get so invested in the story and its characters your emotions are all over the place, I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVED AND LOVED THIS STORY SO MUCH. I can't wait to see what happens now even though I'm a little afraid to find out, I HAVE TO KNOW! *dives straight into book #2*....
4.5 Stars

I love a taboo story especially an older woman with a younger guy. The sexual tension between Brian and Jane was intense and hot. The mystery of the past was still veiled. The ending of book suggested that heartache was palpable. I just hope my heart can survive it. Off I go onto book 2.

I couldn't put this book down at all yesterday! Even though Brian and Jane met unconventionally and there is a huge age difference, none of that matters when you can feel the love these two share with each other!

This for me was a really good read, never thought I would like the concept of a older woman going for a much younger man. However Brian is such a strong and wise character it works. I am now very keen to read the second book in the series to see how it all unfolds. I was instantly into the book within the first few chapters and very keen to keep reading.

H.O.T. but with actual characters that you care about, and an actual story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I loved discovering that the sequel is available already because I can't wait to find out about what happens to Brian and Jane next and their delicate, erotic relationship.

I read this book in nearly one sitting. I enjoy the older woman/younger man theme but given how young Brian is, I had initial reservations about his character and how the story would be written. I have to say that the author surpassed my highest expectations. Brian is a complex, multi-faceted character. Yes, he’s incredibly hot and sexy, but what most draws me to him is his old soul, his intelligence, his strength, and the way he treats and cares for Jane.

This book is very well-written and as an American, I found the setting of South Africa to be fascinating. I respect and like Jane and can also relate to her in many ways. The secondary characters all come across as real people and are not superfluous to the story. I can honestly say that this is one of the best books I’ve read in some time and am eager to begin the second book, Young Enough. I give this book 4 1/2 very impressed stars.

So this was pretty much perfection for me. The story-line was ridiculously captivating. I just couldn't wait to read what was coming next. Really well done age-gap story.

I will point out, however, that it should have been called a duet. This isn't really a standalone. It's not really the end of their journey. So I can see how some people might be a little annoyed by the labeling.
I did read this disclaimer in the blurb on Goodreads: (Old Enough is Book 1 of The Age Between Us duology. Book 2 will be available on 28 August 2018.) ... based on the multiple complaints of people not knowing this story had a part two, I can only assume it was added after the fact. I could be wrong and people are just dumb *shrug* LOL

Thanks for Charmaine Pauls and NetGalley that I got this ARC.

I have read this a couple times, because this is so good. I have love older man/younger woman books many years. Maybe because I like also older men. So I could say that this was everything what I love with age gap romances even thought in this book this was older woman with younger man. So it was different, but maybe this was, why this book was so good. Usual it is just like i said before (OM/YW), so this make it so special. And there wasn't feelings what usual make me thinks that younger guys are so annoying.. But I can make recommendation with Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls, because characters were nice and sometimes books make you believe that the age is only a number and if there is huge age gap, it isn't bad thing, not even thought some might think like it because our society says that this is wrong, even more if you are woman and much older or even a couple years.

This was a smoking hot read I have not read many older woman/younger man romances I usually prefer them the other way around but this was a really great read it was really well written and had an actual storyline that was a good change I just loved Jane and Brian together they were smoking hot cannot wait to read more from Charmaine in the future

Wow! This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s the first part of the story of Brian and Jane, a younger man and a MUCH older woman. The story takes place in South Africa, which is only relevant when certain words or phrases are used that are different from the ones we would use in the US. Sometimes it took me out of the story, but only for a moment.

It is EXTREMELY sexy, delving into some practices/proclivities that I’ve not read too much about. It is well-written and interesting. Both Jane and Brian have a complicated backstory, which I always love. Jane is also a mom, which adds a relatable element to the story for me. I’m very anxious to see how things turn out for them , which is why I’m going to jump right in and read part two, called Young Enough.

5 +++ Stars for Old Enough

ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This author has such a way of writing that as a reader you feel like you are in the story - & you can’t help but feel what the characters are feeling ...

Brian & Jane’s story is like nothing I’ve read before ... this book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger but Young Enough is available now to continue the amazing end to this story!!

Jane is meeting her husband to celebrate their anniversary & of all things he totally blindsides her by saying he wants a divorce. He has been having an affair & his girlfriend ( soon to be finace is pregnant )

Jane has had a number of tragic things happen & it seems as if everything keeps getting worse ...

Brian is actually shown a picture of Jane by someone who is trying to blackmail her - the attraction is instant even though Jane is aprx 20 yrs older than him. Brian breaks into Jane’s house with his friends just to see & not scare her - their chemistry from their first meeting is off the charts !!!

This book has sizzling chemistry & so many plot twists u will be hard pressed to put it down until you see what happens ...

Jane is such a strong character but her life has been filled with unhappiness- Brian makes her happy - feel attractive & loved but society views them as wrong for each other mostly due to their age difference ...

If you were like me you were constantly rooting for this couple - begging the question does age really matter when you have found true love !!

Strongly recommend this book !!!!

I loved the story between Jane and Brian. This was a very strong story that was very well written. The plot might be a bit of a formula in that our heroine is losing her husband to a younger woman but the depth of the characters really brought this story to new heights. Brian won my heart with his attitude and his wit and wisdom. Loved it

Oh. Wow.
Where to begin?
A 'taboo' romance between Brian, a 'wrong-side-of-the-tracks' 19 year old man (yes, a 'man' in every sense of the word) and Jane, a beautiful, sophisticated, up-town 42-year old woman?
Can I enjoy this and believe in them as a couple?
Oh you betcha!

First of all, the writing is first rate. It's such an interesting premise, and I was curious to see if the author could pull it off. Going in I was a bit skeptical, prepared to give up on it if it wasn't to my liking. But I not only liked it, I loved it. I couldn't swipe the pages fast enough. I really cared about this couple and wanted to see where it would go. And the only reason it took me two days to finish it was because work got in the way. (I hate when real life interferes with a good book!)

This book had everything to keep me turning the pages. Riveting writing, a grand soap-operish plot, plenty of twists and turns and reveals, scorching and I mean scorching hot sex, and characters to root for. I may have had a few problems with Jane (I thought she was too passive sometimes when it came to fighting for what she wanted/deserved and maybe gave in too easily), but Brian---god, for the most part I just marveled at what a man he was and all that he took on at a young age. And if he wanted Jane, then I wanted him to have Jane!

I just loved this story--and I would love to see it made into a movie.

This book was sooo good! I would definitely give it a 5/5⭐! Brian and Jane meet (not so much) by chance. Brian is a younger guy. Having gone through a rough time at home, he takes care of his mom and little sister. Jane has just been left by her husband and is trying to get back on her feet. I feel like this couple works so well together because Brian is so much more mature than his age. I really loved them as a couple. I love the fact that he was the more take charge in the relationship. It didn't feel like Jane was taking advantage of him at all. The storyline flowed really well. This was sweet, steamy and definitely left on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next one. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc.

Old Enough was my first read by Charmaine Pauls.
I requested an ARC from the publisher because I rarely had the opportunity to read OW/YM books but the few times I did I chose luckily and found great authors and memorable stories of this sub-genre.

I also rarely give more than 3 stars if a book ends in a cliffhanger but this time I felt it definitely deserved more. The writing was very good, the characters were three dimensional and very much life-like.

It was kind of an exotic read for me as the story was placed in Pretoria. I always appreciate a unique setting, it is a plus in my book. I liked how the author portrayed the differences in social status through the characters. These only added a layer to the OW/YM setup as this was yet another hurdle to overcome by the hero and the heroine besides the considerable age difference.

For the most part I felt sorry for Jane. Technically everyone in her life was - and has been - using her. She just forgot to live, only merely existed after losing her love more than a decade ago. It was heartbreaking to read. I hated her spineless cheating husband and his mistress too. I also hated her so-called best friend who wasn't considering Jane's feelings and was also a backstabbing bitch in my opinion. Jane did show signs of revival though and I was glad. Without the possibility of her developing and growing to a stronger self this story would have been only a struggling read about a good-for-nothing doormat.
Brian's intentions weren't the purest. Not by a longshot. I liked that the story is written in dual POVs so I knew from the get go why and how Brian got interested in Jane, why his conscience wasn't clean. The impending doom was there in between the lines of their every encounter and this also added to the ever present tension. His intention aside Brian was a likeable character. Having to take care of his mother and little sister made him grow up very soon. Add to that the less than ideal circumstances of his neighborhood, where he has to be on his guard every minute of every day, trying to keep a precarious balance to keep his family somewhat safe.
He is an old soul in a young and delectable body. I liked his calm demeanor very much.
Jane and Brian had off the charts chemistry. Their sexual encounters awoke new depths, "long ago buried" or "never been there" feelings in both of them.

This first book was a great lead-up to the conclusion of the story in book 2. There are heavy secrets to be revealed both from past and present. A lot of issues to overcome. I can only hope Jane's reviving heart will survive every hit still to come.

All in all I liked this book and will surely read the next.
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley

Jane finds her life in shambles as a young man swims into her life. Brian has a life that is drowning him as he is given a chance to meet an old woman. What these two find together is powerful, but not understood by many.

This book will take on a ride time and time again. I enjoyed the story between Jane and Brian. If you love reading hot, sexy books, you should pick this one up. It won't disappoint!

Old Enough (book 1 of The Age Between Us) is my first experience with Charmaine Pauls and overall it was a positive read. Brian is sexy but young. Jane is the divorced older woman who has a daughter. It seems wrong, but the two have great chemistry. If you like explicit sex, some kink, and talented writing you'll like Old Enough. Be sure to continue to Book 2. I read an e-ARC. Thanks NetGalley

Old Enough is my first Charmaine Pauls book but I couldn't wait to get the next book because I was entralled by the older woman/younger man storyline. There is way more than that trope going on in this story. There is suspense to some degree...that "Why did he do that and why is he lying about it?" (you'll have to read it to find out what I'm talking about). Brian is an old soul for sure and a relationship that SHOULDN'T work does to some extent. Is it the hot sex? I'm positive that is a big part of it but to me there is way more going on here than meets the eye. Jane has been through her own wringer and is now coming into her own. BUT there are characters in this story I want to strangle and only with the next book will I find out if they get their comeuppance. Even Jane's child is angering me to some degree. But I will say that I absolutely LOVE Brian and I love these two together. I'm just not sure they will make it once all the secrets are revealed.

I have never been a big fan of romances between an older woman and a younger man. However, this book was brilliant. The characters were amazing and skilfully created. Brian was a character who acted in such a way I always forgot his age and Jane as well. She acted a lot more younger than what she then turned out to be. This book really made my opinions rise to the surface and I can't wait to read the rest of their story. I really hope they get a happy ending, they truly deserve it.

Brilliant read, as all of Charmaine’s books, I would highly recommend reading not just this book—but all of her books! Amazing!!

Old Enough by Charmaine Pauls is part one of two in the Age Between Us series. Having read Charmaine Pauls work before, and enjoying it, I was eager to give this book a try. Warning, this book ends on a cliffhanger, and for me this book went extremely fast. I recommend having both parts on hand when beginning Old Enough.

Jane, for the most part, has been able to go on with her life after the death of a previous lover over a decade ago. On the anniversary of his death, she mourns him deeply, then returns to her husband and daughter. She considers Francois her best friend, however, a passion for him is lacking. When he asks Jane for a divorce, it still comes as a shock to her.

Brian is a student in college. He is trying desperately to care for his emotionally troubled mother and his younger sister. A chance meeting at a bar, with a man determined to ruin Jane's life, puts Brian on Jane's path. From the moment Brian sees Jane, his gravitation to her is instant.

When Jane and Brian meet, seemingly by chance, they quickly begin an affair. Watching the romance grow, steeped in a passionate dominant-submissive intensity, was alluring.

Brian is mature for his age, having to become the head of his household at a young an age. Everything Brian does is for the benefit of others. He protects his mother, sister, and, almost immediately, Jane. The perfect balance of compassion and assertiveness, Brian is appealing as the romantic lead.

Jane has a hard time recovering from the changes in her life. Her old friends, her ex-husband, her job, all seem to drag her further into despair. Brian becomes the one good thing in her life, and soon, even their affair becomes impossible for her to believe will survive. I felt sorry for Jane. I spent a lot of time frustrated with the treatment she endured from her family and friends. So frustrated, in fact, that I began not relating to her very well.

Unfortunately for Brian and Jane, their romance is ill-timed. Jane is dealing with her divorce, as well as the prejudice regarding her relationship with Brian. Brian is desperately trying to avoid involvement with the gang in his neighborhood. He realizes dealing with the crime family head-on, rather than avoiding it, is the only way to ensure his loved ones will remain safe. These outer influences make it appear their relationship will not survive.

Charmaine Pauls knows how to write dark, taboo romances. Her couples have to work hard for their relationship, but the payoff is better for it. I received this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion. I encourage all readers to reach their own conclusions.

He was old enough for so many things but meeting Jane was something that changed his life forever. One simple request and a dare to find out more was all it took for him to be captivated. So many years between them. The allure of changing their lives when they are surrounded by responded bad luck turned into an outlet that made everyday tolerable. Finding who they are together and ignoring the taboo of being together was a driving force into their relationship. Great first part of the series.
