Description

Rising Above Lyme Disease is a comprehensive, whole-body approach to overcoming Lyme disease and reclaiming your life.

Incidence of Lyme disease is skyrocketing. If caught early, antibiotics can often successfully treat it, but more often than not, Lyme is asymptomatic and evades diagnosis until it is a full-blown, chronic condition that requires a multi-faceted treatment plan.

In Rising Above Lyme Disease, renowned naturopath and Lyme-literate doctor Julia Greenspan presents a Comprehensive and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approach for recovery for those who have been suffering with this disease for weeks, months, years, or even decades. Operating from the front lines of the epidemic in New England, she gives hope to those who thought there was none, or feel unheard by all those around them.

Dr. Greenspan's integrative treatment plan addresses not only the body, but the mind as well, and includes:
  • Standard protocols such as antibiotic and probiotic care, which can be essential to long-term healing (despite fears)
  • Detoxing and dietary changes that help get proven results
  • Therapies such as yoga, massage, earthing, and qi gong
  • Therapies that dig deeper (when nothing else seems to be working) and focus on removing obstacles to healing, such as past trauma, negative beliefs about self, unhealthy lifestyle choices, genetics, hormone imbalance, environmental toxins, and other infections—all of which have a very real, and often overlooked, effect on recovery
Through this comprehensive approach that focuses on the whole person and the very personal ways in which the disease may affect one's life, it is possible to find relief, become your best advocate, and ultimately, rise above Lyme.

Lyme disease is becoming more and more common. Treatments vary, but some have a lot of side effects and nothing seems to cure the disease.

Dr. Greenspan examines the symptoms and causes before offering holistic solutions. She includes food and a healthy lifestyle in her recommendations. If you know someone with Lyme disease, this is a must read for consideration of various techniques to manage your illness.

As someone who has shown signs of having Lyme Disease, this book has helped me tremendously. I have had family who has been diagnosed with having it and have seen them struggle with the effects of having it. From getting infusions to being extremely sick, it's not a way to live life. But with the help of this book, I can share some knowledge of how to rise above the disease. If you suffer from any ailment after getting bit by a tick, then I would suggest reading this book. I was bitten by a tick a few years ago and had the classic bullseye rash, but my doctor refused to test or treat me for it. I highly recommend this book to anyone with Lyme Disease!

Chances are, you quite probably know someone who has/had Lyme disease or maybe have experienced it yourself. You might not even know you know someone with Lyme or that you have/had it, as the diagnostic tools aren't the best and sometimes it isn't tested for or it is discounted by the medical professional, the patient of those around the patient. Lyme is a rather terrible disease, and it rarely travels alone. Ticks are nature's dirty needle and they don't care who or what their next meal comes from.

This book is increasingly necessary, unfortunately. As the weather warms, the ticks move into areas where they weren't before and a new group of people and animals become vulnerable to the ticks predation.

It's also unfortunate, but true, that many in the medical community are "Lyme deniers" and the insurance companies DEFINITELY don't want to pay for all of the testing and treatment that is needed, sometimes for years, so they deny it too.

Ok, this book may have made me a bit paranoid about going out and doing some "forest bathing", but hey, I rather stay in a read anyway,

This entire book, except for the last chapter that went a little "woo-woo" for my taste, was on point. All of it was well researched and the author is not only a doctor for those with Lyme in New England, but she was also a sufferer of Lyme, so she knows first hand how debilitating and REAL the disease is.

HIGHLY recommended, for everyone, whether you have/had Lyme, know someone who suffers from it, or just to learn how to respect and talk to those who suffer from it.

4.5 stars because of the last chapter, rounded up to 5, because this book is IMPORTANT.
