This is a popular series at our library and this addition will only increase their popularity! Focusing on the life of Maria Montessori, children will discover that this lady took the time to help children society has given up on. With earthly graphics and simple text, parents will enjoy taking some time and reading this book to their children. A great discussion starter!

The things you learn by reading this little series of picture books for young children. I didn't know that Maria Montessori was a woman. I had always admired the MOntessori schools, and I find it heartening that a woman had the foresight to come up with them.

It is a very small book, so there isn't a lot of room to cram in info, but what they did include about her worked with the disabled, and how she was the first woman to go to medical school, in in Italy.

<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4978" src="https://g2comm.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Screen-Shot-2019-02-20-at-4.10.37-PM.png" alt="" />

It is a quick look at a famous woman, and hopefully this quick a look will make it easier for a bunch of other states.

I love the picture books that Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara does. They are perfect for little children.
This one is a board book that introduces the little readers to the incredible life of the pioneering teacher and researcher that is Maria Montessori.
It is written in simple sentences, which are perfect for the little ones and it offers them inspiring messages.
I love how quirky the illustrations are.

I love the idea of this series of books: introducing children to people who have made a difference in our culture. Many children’s parents may have heard of Maria Montessori, but very few children have been introduced to her work... even those who attend Montessori schools or have Montessori minded parents.

The illustrations are beautiful and the story provides an age appropriate concise history of the life of Maria Montessori. I figure this book would be best for those who could understand it well, so this book may not be well suited for young children, although the illustrations are beautiful and young children and toddlers may find that endearing.

For me, a mother who is Montessori-inspired with an infant... it’s a pass for
Me for now. If my baby were older, I would say that this would be a great addition to our library.

This was nice but felt a little bare-bones compared to some of the other Little People, Big Dreams books.

Another great edition of Little people Big dreams. Maria Montessori, a female who beat the odds and showed the world that through love and education many problems can be solved or alleviated.
Another strong female in history who helped create a better world.

Maria Montessori by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another addition to the always popular series Little People BIG DREAMS. As per usual, the simplified text and colourful and detailed illustrations work in harmony to create an educational biography that is both accessible and aesthetically pleasing to even the very youngest of readers. I am looking forward to adding this latest entry into my ever growing collection of this wonderful series.

I love the Little People, Big Dreams series, but I found this one a little bit lacking. The biography is simplified, of course, but this seemed extra choppy to me. I’m so glad that Maria Montessori was added to the collection!
This one is a title that I’d probably pick up at the library, but not purchase on my own.

Another good addition to the series, it was interesting to learn about Montessori's education as a doctor and how her experiences in that field led her to education.

This is the third book I've read in the "Little People BIG DREAMS" series. that describes, in simple terms, the life of Maria Montessori. Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, created a classroom environment that fostered a child's natural desire to learn.

The simple illustrations and text can be easily understood by young readers. I love this whole series and feel it would be an important addition to school libraries.

This was a great introduction to Maria Montessori for children. As someone that homeschools my children and is influenced by her teaching methods, I loved it.

I am so glad this book series exists. The illustrations are gorgeous and they are such an easy and fun way to get very young children interested in history early on while inspiring them with stories of little people who have changed the world in their own ways. Maria Montessori is a terrific role model for young minds. Maria shows that woman can do anything they put their minds to and all children are capable of learning and succeeding in their own way.

Review to come on Feb 20th on blog and goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I am a big fan of this woman and what she achieved for children around the world. She definitely changed and added new ways to teaching to helping kids learn. And so I had to read this book as I have loved others in the same series.

In this one we get a quick look at Maria's life from childhood to when she is older and has achieved many things. We see how this girl is strong-willed, eager to study but in her way, and how she pushed through to get where she wanted. I loved that she did all those things for the children and it made me even more happy seeing it all work out. See those kids soak up all they are learning. Because learning isn't about pushing words and numbers into your head, it is also about making it fun. To make it a game.
It is a very basic introduction into this woman's life and what she achieved, but I feel that the author/illustrator both conveyed the most important things.

The art was pretty nice.

All in all, if you want to know more about Maria Montessori be sure to check out this picture book.

I really enjoy this series of books, I'm hoping to read them all eventually as they are very helpful in my lessons.
The illustrations and colour pallet of this book is sweet and bold. I felt this one needed a little more text as we are talking about a teacher who revolutionised the teaching world. Still a lovely read for all ages, I like to use this one in my language lessons because the text is always spot on.
This book is so inspiring !

Another beautiful installment in the Little People, Big Dreams series! This one is a beautiful biography about Maria Montessori who paved a pathway for children and education and helped to shape education as it is today. It shows she didn't always have it easy such as being a woman in a man's world, but how persistence and following your heart to make a difference can make a big change in the world.
I love these inspirational books and haven't found one I cannot reccomend yet.

Another Little People Big Dreams book that we loved. Maria is a very inspirational women and Logan loved learning about her.

This is one of the more successful of this series of books for me. It does a pretty good job of telling Maria Montessori's life from childhood to teacher to educational leader. It does romanticize and simplify Montessori's teachings and philosophies a bit, but in a way that's likely to inspire kids. As always, the art is nice. As someone who attended a Montessori school in childhood and also used Montessori methods as part of homeschooling my own kids, I'm not sure I'd make it sound as play-based as the author does. A Montessori childhood is child-led and full of benefits, but some critics challenge that it is rather devoid of play (particularly fantasy play). There are stations where kids learn the proper way polish silver or peel a carrot, for goodness sake. :) That's fine, they love doing it, but it's oversimplifying to an extreme to say that Montessori taught that kids should just play. That's not the case, but it could look that way to an outsider.

In any case, the message itself is great. It's a good book, and nobody is going to expect a full biography in a children's board book. Recommended.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

Small but interesting book for children

I really like this series ("Little People, Big Dreams"). I enjoyed reading about Maria Montessori. Although I know about Montessori schools, I have to admit I had not known her story! I learned she was the first female doctor in Italy, and founded the Montessori method. The book is quite short. I liked the accompanying illustrations. Another good book to inspire children to dream big.

This is a very simplified version of the original Little People, Big Dreams book on Maria Montessori. There is one line per page giving basic information about this well known woman. Each double page spread then has a large, detailed illustration that could be used for discussion. We learn that she grew up at a time where women were expected to be homemakers. She became a doctor, but was largely ignored by her teachers and other students. She was placed in a hospital where the children were not sick, but had various special needs. Developing what has become known as the Montessori method, these children learned and thrived. A cute story for very young children.

I adore the Little People, Big Dream books which is a bestselling series that introduces young readers to inspirational people throughout history. The books demonstrate that many successful people have had to overcome challenges in their lives and work hard for their achievements. The board book versions provide even the youngest readers in our lives an opportunity to hear these incredible stories. Each book is complete with clear, bright and colourful illustrations that tell the story just as much as the words.

As a primary teacher I have heard lots of information about Maria Montessori and her methods are still held in high regard. She became the first person in her country to study medicine, not an easy feat when she wasn’t supported. Maria found inspiration when working with children in a hospital who were labelled as sick due to their different learning and developmental needs. This experience would lead her to open a school and become a world leader in education. Her pedagogical methods are still used in many parts of the world.
Another great book to add to your Little People, Big Dreams collection or the perfect start.

Maria Montessori' by Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Raquel Martín is about the pioneering teacher and researcher and told in board book format.

Maria Montessori grew up in Italy in a time when girls didn't have the same educational opportunities as boys, but that didn't stop her. She was the first woman in Italy to study medicine. She used what she knew to help children and create good learning environments.

I didn't know much about this person, but thanks to this series, I'd like to learn more. The illustrations are colorful and nice. I like this series.

This is a title in the board book collection of Little People, Big Dreams series.  Each tells the story of a well known person in an easy to understand text.  These biographies show children a wide range of dreams and accomplishments with the hope that the child you read to will dream big too!

This entry is about the little girl who grew up to be the well-known educator.  Children will learnt that Maria  was the first girl to study medicine in Italy; she was often alone as the other students did not work with her.  Listeners will find out what Maria did after becoming a doctor and the great influence that she had on ways to teach children. They will learn that there are still Montessori schools today.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publiseher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

My First Maria Montessori is a new entry in the Little People, Big Dreams series of historical biographies of the childhoods and lives of notable people. I've reviewed a number of the books in this charming series on my blog. This one, about Maria Montessori, introduced me to some facts of which I was previously unaware.

Due out 3rd March 2020 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint, it's 24 pages and available in boardbook format.

This is a lovely tribute to a woman who was educated as a medical doctor (the first woman doctor educated in modern times in Italy) and who used her abilities and observational skills to serve some of the most vulnerable children in her society. Considered disposable by her society at the time, she recognized that everyone could be educated and used her skills to make learning fun for the marginalized and institutionalized children of Italy, and later the world.

The text by Isabel Vegara is simple enough to be understood by very young children. The art, by Raquel Martin is colorful and appealing and illustrates the text very well.

Very well done book and a lovely and worthwhile series. It would make a great bedtime read or a reading circle or classroom read for the very youngest "readers".

Four stars.

As an educator who feels play is just as important (if not more) than "lessons," Maria Montessori is my hero. Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara's beautiful retelling of Maria's life and how she came to create the Montessori we all know today makes me want to pick up every single biography of Maria that I can find.

This is a woman who knows and understands the brain of a child...and what that brain needs to grow and blossom. This picture book touches briefly on the struggles Montessori faced as a woman in fields only populated by men at the time. I can only imagine what she had to go through to become the innovative woman we know of today.

As always, Ms. Vegara brings us a Solid Five Star Read. A huge Thank You to NetGalley & Quarto Publishing Group-Francis Lincoln Childrens for the digital copy to review.

Oh wow. I probably could write my own book about Maria Montessori who is and has been my own role model and hero. Few have influenced my life and that of my children as much as Maria Montessori!
Maria Montessori, by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, is part of the Little People, Big Dreams series for children. The books are basically biographies written on child’s level about people who not born into greatness but, instead, lived to achieve their dreams. Montessori is best known for her unique method of educating children that was and still is practiced in many countries through schools founded on her philosophy and by many homeschool families who appreciate the child centered approach to learning. The book often points out, rightly so, that Maria received her education, in science, medicine and more, at a time when girls were not encouraged to do so. She overcame the odds to become an expert in childhood education.

My one drawback to this book is that the author describes Montessori’s method as education through play. While playing in an important part of learning for us all, that is not the foundation of Montessori’s teachings. Learning is everywhere – play, cooking, building, every day skills that we must achieve. Giving the child access to multiple areas in which to learn – including play – is essential to their growth. My son was cooking Mac and Cheese from scratch when he was five years old because he was never told that he couldn’t. All of my kids stayed well above the “normal” achievements of others because they were never held back from learning new skills. Freedom to learn everywhere, that is the beauty of Montessori’s method.
Maria Montessori is marvelous addition to this incredible series and one that I hope parents and teachers alike will utilize to their fullest extent.

If you read these book, or have already, let me know what you think. If you haven’t, then I encourage you to do so regardless of your age. You will learn something new, guaranteed.

As a Montessori homeschooling mom, this book is especially close to my heart. I bought the first version for my children, and they loved it. This short text version is appropriate for toddlers.
Maria Montessori changed our lives. I always recommend to parents books written by and about her. This one is high on my preferences list for children's books.

I'm a huge fan of the Little People, BIG DREAMS book series and I was really excited for the Maria Montessori edition. The school I went to was inspired by the concepts of Maria Montessori and therefore I love that more children get the chance to learn something about this woman through this little book.

As always the art style was really pretty and the story felt, even though the books are just 12 pages long, lovely and fluently told. Only the ending felt a little bit rushed for me, the cut between story and message a little bit forced.

You can't tell the whole story with just a few sentences and pictures, but this edition gives you a great feeling for the woman behind the name and inspired me to look up her life again. This book left me with a warm smile and the feeling that people and dreams can make a difference.

I said it before: The Little People, BIG DREAMS books are a great way to inspire your kids to dream big. And to stay true to themselves. This edition wasn't an exception.
