Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream? This book is all about how animals beat the heat and I read this with my 5 and 9 yr old. It was really cute when they gave their answers and thought they were right on the yes or no. 9 yr old- “I thought I was right when I was wrong” 5 yr old- “I loves how squirrels use “umbrellas”.

I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream? teaches about different ways that animals can beat the heat. The silly questions, followed by the informative answers, are written to hold the attention of young children. If your child is an animal lover, I recommend this book. The illustrations are bright and cheery.

Thank you to OwlKids Books and NetGalley for the electronic ARC to review.

This is a cute book that teaches kids the ways that animals cool themselves down. Each time asks a question like do elephants use fans to cool down, and then the next page tells you yes or no. Sometimes the answer is yes (sort of), like saying that elephants use their ears like fans. Colorful, somewhat silly illustrations show each animal doing the ridiculous first question and then showing how they really cool off. There is no end section with photos or more information, but it's a fun little book that my 8 year old enjoyed.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

I never thought about how animals survive a summer. I did wonder how they stay or got cool. It’s amazing to learn what they do. The book tells you quite a variety of animals and how they stay cool. I loved the questions asked and the answers. The illustrations are perfect for this book. I do think that you can be any age and enjoy reading this nonfiction book.

This is such a fun book. The illustrations are simple, colorful and expressive. Children will really enjoy this because they are first presented with a somewhat silly question such as "Do frogs wear sunscreen?" They can think about this silly question - it seems like the answer would be no doesn't it? But then the next page explains how it is that frogs do indeed wear sunscreen. This is such an informative book which explains how many different types of animals cool off when they are hot.

It's really a lot of fun and very educational. I'd like to have it in my classroom!

Thanks to #netgalley and #dolizardseaticecream for the advance reading copy.

I LOVE this book. Illustrations: adorable. Content: cute, yet educational. Did I learn things I didn't know about animals? Absolutely! A definite must-read for any animal lover.

It's built to be read aloud with plenty of chances for the audience to guess if what the animals in the illustrations are doing is what they actually do in real life.

I can't wait to add this to my classroom library!

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC! All opinions are my own and are unbiased.

The adorable illustrations in this nonfiction picture book make learning odd animal habits fun and potentially interactive for classroom learning! This is a great book to open conversations at home about how the animal kingdom adapts according to its surrounding climates.

Etta Kaner has a stellar record of creating picture-book nonfiction that appeals with its combination of colorful graphics, cool facts, and kid-friendly humor. I must have read hundreds of animal nonfiction books in my many, many years as a school librarian, yet I knew almost none of the facts laid out in this book!

This is a super cute book that we enjoyed reading together as a family. I have an animal loving 8 year old boy and he loved all the facts in this book. He enjoyed learning how animals stay cool. I liked how there were suggestions how they could do it --- then it's broken down to how they stay cool. Great family book.

I received a copy of this book through netgalley - all thoughts are my own.

This delightful non-fiction book will have kids giggling as they discover how animals keep their cool in the heat. The author proposes some silly scenarios and questions then factually gives the answers to them.

"Do frogs use sunscreen to protect their skin?
Do koalas run through sprinklers?
Do desert ants sit in front of air conditioners?
Do elephants use fans?" are some of the questions asked.

The responses are quite astonishing and a great way of learning exactly what these animals do to stay cool. The playful and cartoonish illustrations will bring laughter, spark discussions and peek curiosity regarding each animal highlighted. I learned a lot! Who knew that:

"Waxy monkey tree frogs make their own sunscreen. It comes from glands in their skin. They use their legs to rub a waxy cream all over their body, The "frog sunblock" stops the frog's skin from drying out. This is one frog that doesn't mind the sun!"

"African lungfish live in water that often dries up and turns to mud. When this happens, it's time for a nap. The lungfish digs a burrow under the mud and covers itself with a blanket of bubbles. When does it wake up? When it rains. But that would take as long a two years to happen!"

This book would be a great addition to a classroom or school library. It is the sequel to "Do Frogs Drink Hot Chocolate?" another book that kid's will love. I highly recommend it.

This review is based on an ARC of Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream which I received courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.
What a fun book to engage young readers in learning about animals! This colorful, picture book asks kids to think about how animals keep cool. Each page asks a question and is accompanied by illustrations that coordinate with the question, many are quite funny. The next page then goes onto explain simply how the animal keeps cool. For example, do lizards eat ice cream to beat the heat? No! Shovel-snouted lizards dance to cool down. The answers are written in an easy to read, informative paragraph.
I could see this book being used in a classroom to have students make predictions. It's a great non-fiction picture book that will engage and educate it's young readers.

I received an ARC through NetGalley from Owlkids Books. My 5-year-old gave this book 5 stars. This non-fiction picture book asks funny questions about animals and gives the reader the “real” answers. For instance, do elephants use fans? Yes (sort of) because they use their ears to cool down, but the book also tell the reader why by explaining about the blood vessels in their ears. Big bright illustrations, interactive and large Yes/No answers, and very good and specific explanations. Perfect book for kids that want to learn something new. This book has flexibility in the aging because you can talk about as much as they can understand. Recommended ages 3-7.

Do Lizard’s Eat Ice Cream? Well now I had never thought about it but surely they don’t. Etta Kaner’s charming new non-fiction book has all the answers to how animals keep cool in the heat. Illustrated by Jenna Piechota, this fantastic non-fiction book is written in one of my favourite formats: question and answer. Question and answer books make fantastic read alouds and books to share together because they allow for participation. If you have an early reader they can try and guess if the question is true or false and perhaps why it is so. Non-fiction books written in a question and answer format are significantly more engaging than books just spouting facts at the reader.

Etta Kaner has come up with a fabulous way to share information that is perfectly geared towards the youngest readers. From preschoolers to grade schoolers, children will enjoy interacting with the engaging format and the lively pictures.

Some children really enjoy having photos as the pictures in non fiction texts while others enjoy illustrations. My non-fiction reader personally enjoys both depending on what information he is gathering. I enjoy Jenna Piechota’s illustrations in Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream? They add charm and humour to further engage readers in the text
