This audiobook is about sabotage and self-sabotage and how we can know that we are doing it or that someone else is doing it to us. There are some important facts exposed here and some useful suggestions on what to do to avoid self-sabotaging that we are not usually aware of.

This was my first Audiobook and I also thought that listening to Audiobooks compared to reading physical and eBooks might be different because as a reader I would never enjoy it as much as I enjoy reading words in lines. But it seems like even Audiobooks have their quality, I enjoy listening to this Audiobook, and not for a second, it felt any different from reading usual books. Emma Gannon's narration was very soothing and she has that encouraging and relaxing voice that made me feel matter to everything that she discussed.

Emma Gannon's 'Sabotage' covers all those aspects that people find themselves holding back; either it's self-criticism, toxic perfectionism, self-worth issues, or being highly self judgemental, the author brilliantly explains their effects and provides tips to deal with it. I see it as a practical guide to get ourselves to deal with the obstacles and problems that we create for us and find ourselves stuck and helpless. The author suggests a few ideas and suggestions remove such hurdles and make our path clear that could lead to a happy and satisfying life.

As my first Audiobook, I see it flawlessly and very helpful. I will highly recommend it to people dealing with self-worth issues and seeking ways to deal with it. Emma Gannon's examples and practical approach can be effectively implemented and above all, must listen to it for her calming voice and soothing narration.

Sabotage is well paced and easy to follow. The suggestions are realistic and widely applicable. Discussions of personal issues with and solutions for self-sabotage move from the general to the specific and are delivered clearly and without condescension.

Sabotage by Emma Gannon really came into my atmosphere at the perfect time. I'd been having a difficult week with general anxiety and with the added pressure of applying to graduate school, I'd been pretty hard on myself.

I'm a new fan of self-help books, so I was delighted to see this as an available option with NetGalley. The audiobook is short, concise, and full of some really insightful tidbits that definitely struck a chord with me. I actually listened to the entire book (it's just under two hours long) in the span of one afternoon and I found it so enjoyable that I went back and re-listened to several chapters later on in the week,

Gannon does a great job of reiterating how self-sabotage can take different forms, and how it doesn't come down to you being weak or comes to you being human and being fearful at times. I've struggled with procrastination so much in my own life and plenty of times I've worried that it stems from some deep and terrible character flaw that I'll never be able to shake.

But Gannon describes how self-sabotage actually "is actually us trying desperately to prevent ourselves from getting hurt—it's a maladaptive way that we try to care for ourselves".

And you know what? I see that! I actually sat up on the couch and had a little "light bulb going off" sort of moment when she said that.

So many times I've delayed doing something or working on things because I was worried I would end up failing or embarrassing myself. So many times, I've told myself that it wasn't worth getting started because I wasn't smart enough, or good enough, or didn't deserve it enough.

Above everything else, Gannon also points out how crucial it is to be KIND to yourself when trying to recognize and work on your self-sabotaging tendencies. If a friend came to you and told you that they were struggling with it, would you be harsh or unkind or nasty to them?

No! So try to be gentle with yourself (I say this as much to myself as to everyone else).

All in all, such an interesting read! I will definitely check out some of her other books.

What a little gem! I loved this book- it was clear and easy to understand with practical tips and suggestions to help yourself be your own best resource, rely less on outside validation and learn to have not only self-compassion but self-determination. This book was the perfect length and I absolutely loved the narrator (and that she is the actual author)- she was clear, spoke at a good pace and the lovely accent was a bonus! This is a good one to listen to again and again as we all could use the reminders on how to get to know ourselves better and recognize we deserve good things! This a short book that is absolutely packed with helpful advice. I chose it because I know I'm guilty of self-sabotage, but I had no idea how much I was truly doing it! The biggest thing I got out of this one is the awareness as to when the sabotage is happening. I found this particularly relevant during this time of COVID because it is so easy for me to bail on things and not push myself, and blame the pandemic. I listened to the audio book read by the author. Her voice is soothing and listening was like getting a pep talk from a friend. Her writing is honest and straightforward. Because it's so short, I think I'll listen to it again soon to make sure it all sinks in. I highly recommend this book for anyone who suspects they need to make some changes in life.

Sabotage is a short and easy self-help read that addresses how we get in our own way. It's full of great tips and research-based insights that everyone will find useful.

Some of the topics covered are perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and self-help vs. self-care - which I thought was interesting.
My copy was an audiobook which is read by the author, who does a great job. This helps make the insights feel more personal was overall like a pep-talk with a friend.

I really enjoyed this book. As a person who almost always wears a white shirt while eating spaghetti, I found Emma's writing to be extremely relatable. It was an easy, quick, quirky read that was full of great solutions to problems that the vast majority of the world face on a regular basis. I wish it was a little longer, but perhaps that was because I would rather read this book than get to my long list of crap I should actually be doing. Self-sabotage!

As a recent university graduate heading into job searching I found this very helpful and uplifting. The book is short, yet it doesn't feel incomplete. I find the advice very practical and can see myself actually using them. Emma Gannon is one of my favourite people to listen to, from her podcast to audiobooks, she just does it time and time again. Would recommend to anyone who feels a bit stuck in their life or just feels like they can do more.

This book was just what I needed to hear right now! It is a short audiobook, just under two hours, and includes a concise amount of information to explain how we sabotage ourselves in our life journey. The author narrates the book and has a lovely voice, which makes it a breeze to listen to, like a friend sharing her experiences and advice. I plan to listen to this again when I'm feeling a need for a wake up call to the mindset that trickles in from imposter syndrome or trying to be perfect, or when I think I don't deserve to be happy. The author covers several topics, both from her own life as well as with quotes and interviews from mental health professionals and professors. She talks about how we need to not run away from good things, and realize that we can be happy without worrying something bad will happen. She explains that we need to be our own cheerleader, and realize we have everything we need within us to keep ourselves going. Overall I recommend this book as one that you will return to, for encouragement, and to hear the right words at the right time.

This short two hour audiobook was my first exposure to Emma Gannon. I enjoyed listening to her narration.

My main form of self sabotage wasn’t covered but a comment on friendship resonated with me—If a friend makes you uncomfortable, reevaluate that relationship. I do think people will find her message helpful as the main theme is to be kinder to yourself.

Emma Gannon does it again! This is a great short self-help guide to getting out of your head. Listening to this audiobook felt like a much-needed therapy session. Going into this book I didn’t necessarily think that I self-sabotaged but Emma points out how a quest for perfection can do just that. This book has lots of little takeaways from Gannon’s interviews with psychologists.

This was a huge comfort read for me, the book was so relatable and comforting to know that someone out there feels the same way I do, and also the author did a great job at putting things into words. I felt myself nodding along to the majority of the book and being in awe of like "THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS IN PERSPECTIVE FOR ME". It provided new insights to me about how we get in our own way and bits of tips.
If you are someone who struggles with insecurity or feeling like you are not enough, this book is for you it will give you a big warm hug and help you understand and sort things out.

Short, easy to read. Straight to the point. Relatable tips on how Emma remedied self-sabotage and everything that comes with it. Tackles, self-worth, confidence, procrastination, and analyst paralysis.

I read the book but also listened to the audio version. I love audio for non-fiction because it's like a friend giving you advice. I also like to listen multiple times to sink in the message. Emma is the narrator and has a great voice.

This is the book I needed today (& will need again tomorrow). I know I struggle with self-sabotage and I have even identified my triggers and the behaviors that I use to sabotage myself with, but had not gotten to the root of WHY.

Listening to this audiobook had helped me look at the 'why' a little differently. I will definitely be re-listening to this book, as well as reading the physical book because I want to take notes and develop a plan to help me stop with the sabotaging behavior.

This is a quick read with so much information. I recommend this to anyone struggling with sabotaging behaviors. There is so much great insight that it is a must have for everyone!

When I found out that Emma's book was going to be pocket-sized I'll admit my shoulders sank: would this book lack the depth I was desperate for? Thankfully, all my concerns were rapidly abated. Sabotage is a sharp, supportive rumination on the practice of self-sabotage and how to combat it. Emma is extremely honest about her own experiences, although the text is never self-absorbed or pithy. Instead, the advice Emma offers is widely applicable, well evidenced and immediately actionable. The clever layout of the book - prose broken up with useful lists of questions, quotes from experts and headline tips - means it will be easy to return to whenever you catch yourself wobbling.

Sabotage is Emma Gannon's pocket-sized (super practical!) expansion on her 2019 article for Elle titled 'The Truth About Self-Sabotage And Why We're Afraid Of Success'. Emma talks about her own experience with navigating her own inner saboteur, giving it a name, and moving through the things you want in life.

I personally love connecting with the Audiobook for any self-care literature, as I feel like I'm sitting down to coffee with my most insightful friend. Emma's narration was no exception; she includes helpful tips for "Slaying Sabotage" as well as her favorite quotations from self-care champions like Brené Brown and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. With the narration being about two hours long, this is the perfect car-ride or errand-running listen! (Though if you really want to go above and beyond, sit down in a quiet space and reflect on Emma's advice!)

One insight that really stood out to me was the concept of the Sunk Cost Fallacy, which I had previously only known as an economic theory. I had never applied it to my own emotional bank, and I can't wait to start being mindful of that in my every day life!

If you enjoy any of Brené Brown's work and Bella Mackie's Jog On, or have ever sat up at night crying about the fact that your pet is going to die one day (guilty!), this is a helpful, quick resource for you! Enjoy!

Sabotage by Emma Gannon is a perceptivel look at the destructive tendencies/behaviors most of us have, herself included.

Gannon lists classic self sabotage most of us are guilty of and recognize in ourselves, as well as less noticeable traits we have; procrastination and self-doubt. She really makes you think about the real motive behind your behavior. What triggers you to work against yourself? Is it fear? Is it insecurities? Do you even notice when you are doing it?

Not only does she provide personal examples of her self sabotage, she includes quotes from mental health professionals and others who have recognized their own self sabotage. It was insightful and comforting to know others are going through the same issues within themselves.

Along with examples of self destructive behavior and reasons why, Gannon provides tips to overcome yourself. Tips to recognize your self harm.

Listening to the audiobook really helped to drive her points across to me. It is a short, quick, helpful guide to recognizing and acknowledging yourself. Sabotage is full of insightful information and would definitely recommend it.

Brief, succinct and to the point. This was a great gentle introduction to the concept of self sabotage, how to recognise it and how to avoid it.

I enjoyed that Emma gave some of her own real life examples and also gave quite specific tips and tricks to help avoid the normal pitfalls.

The audio for this was nicely paced and I found it the perfect length for the subject matter.

I have been feeling like I'm sabotaging my successes at school and work for a couple of years now, and this brilliant little book couldn't have been more timely.

Sabotage is the perfect eye-opener for anyone who, like me, struggles with self-sabotage, procrastination and self-doubt. Although this audiobook is really short at less than two hours, it is surprisingly exhaustive in presentng all the relevant information on WHY and HOW we work against ourselves, even though we know what the right sction would be. It scared me to listen to so much truth that I've been hiding from myself, so even though it was difficult for me to learn some of it, it served as a much needed eye-opener.

The experienced was enhanced by a really good narrator, who made all the new inforation digestible. I think audiobook was definitely the right choice for getting this book.

On the other hand, the one thing I would have loved more of is solid advice on how to stop self-sabotaging. Even though it was an included section in Gannon's book, I could have used more tips and more encouragement..

I listened to this and found it very interesting. The author was the narrator and her voice was easy to listen to. The information was not ground breaking but it was common sense but delivered in a way that for me, made me listen more deeply and understand it. The fact that the author was relating this to her own life made it much more appealing and relatable as well and it is not 15 hours long so can be listened to easily. I am in the process of listening to it again and have started taking notes and will start putting some of the ideas into practice as I am a serial sabotager of myself.

Sabotage by Emma Gannon does a nice job of identifying a somewhat universal problem, giving relatable examples of how sabotaging behaviors hinder our happiness and ability to achieve our maximum potential.

I listened to this book on audio and delighted in her narration. The book moves quickly and includes practical tips and instruction on how to slay self-sabotage at the end of each chapter. These tips would make for great bonus content to accompany the audio narration.

While many of the concepts were not new to me, Gannon used some language and examples which prompted me think differently. Gannon relies heavily on the opinions and thinking of other self-help experts, and even invokes sage advice given to her by her BFF. I admired how she shared the ways she has stood in the way of her own success, along with ways she has worked herself out of self-limiting behaviors.

Sabotage has good information in it especially for newbies researching self-sabotage. Unfortunately, I've read so much on the topic due to my own issues with the topic that I didn't find much information that was new to me. Still, I think the book will be great for those people who are dealing with self-sabotage but have no idea where to begin to help themselves. Even though I knew about most of the information contained in this book, it is always good to have reminders.
The book had a nice, organized layout of the information and if you choose to listen to the audiobook as I did, you'll likely find the author/narrator's voice to be pleasant. This is great since it doesn't distract the reader from the information. I
I'm giving this book 3 stars because I didn't really learn anything new, but as I said I recommend it to people who are new to searching for information on how to counteract their self-sabotaging ways.

Short and sweet along with to the point. There is nothing brand new but I did like how she didn't draw it all out It just made you think a bit about how you are doing with your life- and what you do and what you could and should change.

It has tips and insights that I think everyone would find useful, it wasn't preachy which I really liked compared to self-help books. She also touched on self-care and over doing it to not be doing things you should do. Using fear for good. Getting out of our heads for us anxiety peps as well. Also, toxic friendships and relationships. Overall, I nice pep talk!

I listened to this in one sitting and will no doubt be listening to it again soon (but not as a form of procrastication!) There are so many truths developed and highlighted that made sense to me (so many aha moments). It's no exageration for me to say that I feel a different person for listening to this book. Unravelling the bad side of sabotage in all its complexities, Gannon also looks at the productive side of it and mentions the need to strike a balance between self-worth and self-care for the sake of creativity. A beautiful book with a brave message for all of us who get in the way of our potential for a satisfying and productive life. Thank you Emma Gannon!

In this super-short book, you’ll learn Emma’s definition of self-sabotage, and various ways she’s gotten in her own way.

Pulling from her own experience, various thought leaders and her online followers, she also teaches us how to stop:
--letting our inner ADHD selves distract us from obtaining our goals
--procrastinating and putting off the inevitable
--pre-empting rejection (e.g., quitting a job before being fired)

Emma also helps us look at our inner conflicts that keep us from making things happen.

If you’re really big in self-help books, there’s no new a-ha content. That said, it does combine a lot of useful advice from other well-known speakers and authors. Loved the narration, well written and laid out. Not your typical tell you how to live your life better self help book. Very valuable embrace the suck and use that to move on mentality. Really resonated with me. Not too long either which I really appreciated. Some of these self help books can be redic. Not this one. And the narrators voice was soothing and perfect. I was really excited to listen to the audiobook of Emma Gannon’s latest non-fiction work, Sabotage. Thanks, NetGalley! This is a great book for anyone who needs some help to stop sabotaging themselves and elevate themselves, or their work in any way. It’s a pocket guide to improving how you think about yourself in such an algorithm driven world where it’s so easy to compare and have negative thoughts about yourself and your work.
I have read Emma’s first essay on this topic which was published by The Pound Project and also took her SkillShare class earlier this year. This longer book didn’t necessarily teach me any new things, so if you’re like me and have read Emma’s work around this subject already, it may not be too beneficial. However, if you’re new to it then I’d recommend! The audiobook is less than 2 hours long and contains anecdotes, explanations of types of self-sabotage and tips to help overcome or retrain your brain from sabotage. It’s handy and perfect particularly for freelancers or those who work in the creative industries, in my opinion.

Sabatoge to me means being sneaking with destruction. Like letting yourself believe something is going to work out and then purposely ruining it.
This was an audiobook narrated by the author and I felt like she did a good job. Her voice was pleasant and sincere. This isn’t a long book and some might think it to short, but I didn’t.
The author discusses in the book how a person might get in their own way and what that might look like. Also also talks about.....
• Life coaches and their advice.
• The effects of social media.
• Low self esteem.
• Internal believe system.
• Fear that causes self protection.
• Obsessive control.
There was lots of helpful tips to consider with each of these things. This wasn’t a book that had a formula for everyone. But it could be useful for you and your situation.
I do recommend this book and found it helpful.

This is a short mind therapy book which looks into what self-sabotage is and how we can overcome it. I found this book very interesting and helpful and I will put into practice the tools that the author has provided.

I listened to the audiobook version of this title and I really enjoyed the narrator and the way she explained everything so clearly and patiently. The book was easy to listen to in the netgalley app.

Sabotage by Emma Gannon is the perfect self-help book for anyone. Sabotage explains how you are keeping yourself from reaching your full potential and how to stop.

Sabotage is a short read. There is a lot of important information and tips. All of the important tips from a longer self-help book are included with less stories.

I listened to part of the audiobook and read part of the book. I enjoyed both formats and didn’t have a strong preference. I thought Emma Gannon did a great job narrating. I think authors narrating their self-help books really get the passion across.

This book was very helpful. enlightening. affirmative.
A month ago I felt that I was sabotaging my life with some certain actions but I wasn't sure. Imagine my surprise to see this book included in the Netgalley library.
Now I know I was/still actuly self sabotaging and I'm at ease a bit to have such hepful tips to get me through my shady sabotagy behavior.

I really enjoyed this book. It's only short, but the content is relatable; funny, but still offering useful advice on overcoming self-sabotage.

Initially, I was concerned that the book would be a bit wishy-washy due to how short it is, but I was pleased with how much the author actually managed to include in a concise way. There was no fluff or filler, just good content.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who struggles with self-sabotage and wants to break the cycle.

This is a wonderful short novel about self-sabotage. I feel we can all take something from it, I have to say I did really enjoy it and it made me think about how I personally self-sabotage.

Having loved Emma Gannon’s “The Multi-Hyphen Method” I was very eager to read Sabotage when it was released. I feel like this book really hit home with me and put into words feeling and actions I couldn’t necessarily explain in my own life.
I listened to the audiobook and I think that really helped to hear Emma talk from a place of frustration at her “inner critic”. It’s a quick listen/ short read but it really packs a punch and gives you a good reminder to show up for yourself and to stop procrastinating.
I would very much recommend this if you feel like you aren’t making progress with your projects/ at work as it might just highlight where you might be sabotaging yourself.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK! I've actually listened this twice in a day because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This book talks all about how we each self sabotage ourselves in our everyday lives without even realizing it. It has truly opened my eyes in a way I never though a book could. I will absolutely read/ listen to this book again whenever I feel like I need a pick me up or if I'm having a pity party. I recommend that everyone reads or listen this book. This book actually make me take notes and trying to follow them. Everything from how to deal with toxic friends to how to stop procrastinating is covered in this book. I absolutely love this book and I feel that it's quite helpful.

This is a quick read (or listen in case of audio) that makes the reader focus inward for validation and motivation.

The audiobook is read by the author, Emma Gannon. Emma is UK author that many in the US may not be familiar with. Of course she has a heavy British accent, but once you are accustomed to her voice, the message of the book is very beneficial.

Ms. Gannon explains why we sabotage ourselves as a means of self-defense and preservation, how to overcome those obstacles, and embrace all of the feelings that come with living life. I enjoyed this audio and it gave me a lot to think about in my own life. Some self protection is fine, but others is very detrimental to achieving everything within our capabilities.

I recommend this book to anyone experiencing one of the four major self-sabotage categories: low self esteem, internalized beliefs, fear of the unknown, control issues, Procrastination is my big down fall, and this read certainly helped me to analyze my reasons behind my delays.

I saw a quote from this book on twitter and instantly tracked it down. I am very grateful for this advanced audiobook.

I like a bit of self help. Not so much the woo-woo kind, but practical advice. I suffer from anxiety so I’m always looking for ways to help myself, not just to alleviate the symptoms.

This book is short and to-the-point and excellent on audio. She cites many professional and trustworthy sources and I found the advice at the end very helpful.

I really enjoyed this book - it has lots of very valuable and important parts in, and I think it is a perfect self help book for anyone.

I did find the audio to be quite slow for my personal preference - I listened on 1.75x and that was better for me. This did mean that the book was very short.

This was an interesting read about the ways we stop ourselves from succeeding, and I picked up a few tips I'll definitely try to put into practise. I read Emma Gannon's novel, Olive, this year, so it was also interesting to hear her talking about her fear of failure with it. I enjoyed the short, easy-to-digest chapters and the positive tone of the book overall.

Emma Gannon’s pamphlet-sized text Sabotage is a great short read/listen that challenges readers to examine the various ways we might sabotage our own successes.

I’m very skeptical of self-help narratives that blame our problems on some fundamental personal flaw—we don’t want something enough, we don’t think positively enough, we aren’t sending the right energies into the aether, etc. By contrast, Gannon acknowledges right away that many problems we may experience individually are in fact rooted in broader oppressive social systems and structures. I think this is a really important foundation to lay, as it can help us to introspect without so easily stumbling face-first into the chasm of self-blame.

One particular passage that stood out to me is this: “A little bit of fear keeps us on our toes. It means we are moving forward, and not staying stagnant. It’s possible for us to change our relationship with fear, or even adjust the lens through which we view it, and realize feeling fearful might mean you really want something. It might just mean you’re on the right track.”

I think of Sabotage as a "pocket-sized” audio pick-me-up that can just as easily help you process a bad day as prepare for an interview. It’s a refreshing take on a self-help text that I’d recommend keeping close-at-hand for when you need an impromptu pep talk.

Was Sabotage written for me? Ouch.

I told my therapist last Friday how deeply, Sabotage by Emma Gannon, changed my outlook on life.
Released in late September by Andrews McMeel Publishing, this non-fiction title fit my description of the perfect self-help book.
My perimeters? It helped.
I dislike those self-help authors who appear to think that filling my head with their lengthy resumes will somehow convince me to swallow their message hook, line and sinker.
Perhaps that is why I am seeing a therapist. Hmm.
But this author was "asingin' my song," as my mother once said.
Gannon is a self-described woman and works as a "creative" in the fast-paced world of filmmaking, writing, marketing, and speaking.
Hopefully, she won't be speaking about me. Oh wait, this book could have been written for me. Bummer.
Gannon is ultra-experienced in the "Interaction-With-Jealous-Coworkers-And-Friends-Who-Are-Girls-Or-Cads," department. Gannon has dished and been dished enough to realize that she too, actively engaged in self-sabotage. So active in fact, she could write a book.
Hmm. I feel that experienced too. What would my book be titled? How to Ensure You Destroy Your Own Day, Everyday? Accurate. I wonder how many people would read it?
Here are a few questions intended to identify toxic relationships in your life, according to Gannon:
Are you scared to tell them good news?
Well, that eliminates most of my nuclear family.
When you tell them good news, do they look pleased or pained?
Seriously? Some of my relatives try to stop my good news from happening.
Do they try to hold you back from trying new things:
Ever heard of the word GUILT?!
You feel yourself becoming less and less confident around them?
Are you supposed to feel confident after being with them?
Gannon's book is so readable, or in this case, listen-to-ale, because she pegs the human tendency to set oneself ablaze with thoughts and actions that burn our own self-worth and desire to keep climbing toward our potential straight to the ground.
Hey, you commuters!
Sabotage is an audiobook, easy to access, and quick to understand. It's cheap therapy from someone whose been there, (remember, you are NOT alone,) and a much more fulfilling choice for tolerating bad driving and For-No-Reason-Traffic, than listening to your favorite shock jock; imbibing yourself silly before you hit the road - figuratively or literally; or in California at least, finding … ah … OTHER ways to ease your tension in life.
WARNING: If you dare listen to Gannon's Sabotage, you might just find all those "friends" and "helpmates" in your past life were actually right about some pretty unfortunate things and that after all your fighting, the root of your problem … is you.

This was a wonderful little book that greatly increased my awareness of self-sabotage. I do not often listen to audiobooks (it is far easier for me to concentrate when I am reading) but I wanted to give this a try, especially since it is quite short (it felt more like a long podcast versus a full book). I highly recommend for anyone looking for some insight and steps to combat self-sabotage.

This book struck a chord with me and I was able to identify times in the past when I engaged in self-sabotaging behaviours. Thankfully I’ve not self-sabotaged in a while so it was more of an interesting discussion for me to compare my experiences with the authors.

Woah, I didn’t realize how much of a self sabotager I can be. Glad I listened to Emma Gannon share what she has learned about the issue and her practical tips to help us stop engaging in such destructive behavior. Quick read or listen which I alway appreciate with self-help books.

Sabotage explores the ways in which we sabotage ourselves from achieving our goals. I really liked Gannon's exploration of some big ideas such as Perfectionism but also her consideration of the smaller everyday things we do to sabotage ourselves. Listening to her discuss these things was like listening to a supportive friend highlighting the ways in which you could improve and so I really began to analyse the points she was making and how they apply to my own life. I valued all of the various tips without, especially "don't put off something you can do in 5 minutes" as I am a massive procrastinator.
I actually want to listen to it again or buy a copy and attack it with a highlighter so I can make the most of all the nuggets of wisdom shared throughout.

Emma Gannon's Sabotage is a little book which discusses self-sabotage, the inner voice which prevents us from doing good things in life. Quoting her own experiences and daily life instances, the author subtly describes what self-sabotage actually is, along with recording its pros and cons. The book also contains some tips to slay self-sabotage which will be of great use if you refrain from doing good things in life because you fear that one day the happiness will abandon you.

The content of the book was pretty helpful for me, as I have always felt that I am a great practitioner of self-sabotage. The presentation by the author herself was promising; I never felt the urge to stop it midway, thanks to the ideal length of the book and the graceful presentation. The audiobook is only about 2 hours long, and it is undoubtedly a perfect book for beginners like me!

Listening to this audiobook felt like visiting with a good friend. The narrator (and author of this book) sounded kind, and her message felt relevant. I appreciated the book's simple breakdown of what behaviors to pay attention to and how to fix bad habits. I found the examples from the author's own life helping my understanding, as well as making the story easy to follow. The audiobook is definitely motivational without any guilt-tripping, guiding listeners to step back and take in the bigger picture!

I hated this book with a fiery passion that demonstrated just how much I needed to hear everything the author had to say. I selected this book because I suspected that I indulged in self-sabotage at times, but, it turns out I'm a repeat offender with a rap sheet miles long. Emma Gannon provided countless real-world examples and solutions for rectifying my indiscretions and I look forward to using them.

Sabotage by Emma Gannon talks about various ways in which We, either knowingly or unknowingly try to sabotage our own happiness. Procrastination, compulsive perfectionism and excessive self-criticism are a few things which lead towards self-sabotage.

The book is effective and acts a great starting point to know about the prevalent behaviours of Self-Sabotage. The book is packed with tips which can be used in practical life. I liked the way the author has kept it concise making it a quick read.

I listened to the ALC from Netgalley and I must say, Emma Gannon has done a great job in narrating this book, thus making it efficacious for the listeners.

Get Out of Your Own Way

I had listened to this author's other book on the multi-hyphen life and quite enjoyed it. So, I was interested in hearing her take on sabotage. This is another well-done book, with much to think about in how we treat ourselves and let others treat us. She also provides tips and action steps to take to help us get out of our own way. This is a relatively short audiobook, just under two hours, and it goes by very quickly with many wisdom nuggets shared. She addresses things like imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and self-judgment/self-worth. She gives examples from her own life that are immediately relatable and help you understand what she is trying to get across… and perhaps understand yourself better. A very helpful book if you believe you self-sabotage or allow others to rain on your parade.

This was the first audiobook I listened to on the NetGalley app and I must say I really enjoyed it. I was not familiar with Emma Gannon before listening to this book and I am kind of kicking myself for being unaware of her.
The books does a good job of addressing my first impressions and criticisms of reeking of privilege and being focused on the creatives perspective on self-sabotage. This book is not one for artists and does acknowledge the external and structural institutions that prevent and hinder people's abilities to succeed. Instead this book focuses on self-sabotage and how to combat self-sabotage through exercises and practice.

The author does a good job of defining self-sabotage and give you ways to address self-sabotage immediately and everyday. My biggest complaint is that because this is an audiobook I do not have the lists of advice or tips and I can not look back on them. The book also becomes a bit repetitive and relies heavily on lengthy quotes for being so short.

This was concise and powerful. The author details the insecurities and sabotage that can happen as a result of anxiety. I found it really insightful, and the suggestions were helpful.

This is a great little book that explores important issues in a practical way. I really liked the shorter length and easy to understand advice. I don’t usually read or listen to self help books, but was intrigued by the blurb and am really glad I gave it a try. The narration is superb and very relaxing to listen to.

I listened to Sabotage via audiobook, and found it to be quite inspiring. It's quick--not much longer than your traditional podcast episode--but it packs a punch. Emma examines numerous ways in which we inadvertently (or otherwise) manage to self-sabotage. She discusses gender differences and how women in particular are socially trained to keep others happy, often at our own expense. The book also covers how behaviors like perfectionism and a compulsion to downplay our achievements can actually hold us back.

Make no mistake though, readers will also get a dose of tough love: The author touches on self-care and how it can morph into a way to coddle ourselves. We learn about they different ways we conjure excuses for ourselves (fundamental attribution error), and how our need for control paired with fear of failure can sabotage opportunities (because sometimes, it feels safer to mess something up on purpose, than to actually try and then be rejected).

There's a lot to like packed into this little book. These little lessons will help you get out of your own way so you can live a more confident, authentic life.

I found the narration of this book to be well done, I enjoyed listening to this book. I think it was well put together and helpful to hear some suggestions on how to get out of your own way. I also think it was useful to hear different ways self sabotage can look like, sometimes I think its is one thing to be unconsciously doing something but to hear someone else talk about their experience makes it apparent how those same behaviors are showing up in our own life. I would recommend this to a friend.

Sabotage is a great self-help book. Its to the point, with real life strategies to help you change your life. Its a short book but it packs a lot of information inside about the different ways people sabotage themselves and what to do for those unique habits. I loved how simple and helpful it was, it wasn't fluffy information that was vague or only applies to upper class people (ie take an expensive yoga class, buy organic food etc). This book is for anyone who deals with issues in sabotage. Even if you feel like you aren't sabotaging yourself, I would give this a read- as you may find that you actually are holding yourself back.

A wonderful book that speaks on and about sabotage but with a twist. As we all associate the term 'sabotage' in a negative sense, the author encourages us to see it in a positive attitude. While addressing incidents from her personal life, she has provided ample motivation to inspire the readers to affirm the good and bad of every situation in a lucid way. Her writing is also backed up with facts and proven psychological assertions which were quite leading.

This book was inevitably informative and written in such a helpful manner. Least to say, I breezed through it within a few hours. I appreciate how the author asks the readers to value themselves, their choices and emotions, consider to see each failure or success as a learning experience and not to evaluate or discount their emotions as next to nothing. She speaks proactively on how to accept and ease through the healing after getting knocked off balance by the mundane happenings. Every chapter consisted of inspirational and thought provoking topics. Hopefully the author will continue to write much needed books as this one.

I discovered this book title while I was on a mission to add more grace into my own life. It seems that I am not alone when it comes to ways to sabotage my life. Being in the business of behavioral change sabotage is one of the hardest things to overcomes. It shows up in so many ways. Therefore books on this subject are always attractive to me. This book outlines ways sabotage shows up in a person's life, what it presents itself as and how to make a change. The book doesn't get too deep on any topic. It is a good place to start when you are looking to let a bit more grace, self-love, and self-compassion into your life.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. It covers a range of topics around self-sabotage; surprisingly this includes friendships as well as perfectionism and the fear of failure amongst others. I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of psychological thinking, references to other writers and use of Emma's personal experiences to illustrate points, which she shares openly. As a narrator Emma comes across as likeable, informative and practical - her tips at the end of each chapter are relevant and doable. This is an excellent gem of a book - I've listened to it twice and I would certainly dip into it whenever I felt I needed it.

I was unsure from how it started, but it soon his its stride. I appreciate that the author's research and insight is conveyed in a clear concise manner that should be easy for most people to follow. We get some personal examples of each form of sabotage, which weren't particularly helpful for *me*, but not everyone will already be familiar with them, (and the book doesn't blather on and on about it), so it's perfectly fine. The pattern seemed to follow- name a sort of sabotage, give one or two examples, go a bit deeper into the motivations for it and what research says, and then give some concrete examples of how you can alter the impulse/behavior. I think it works well for this topic.

Probably for me it was mostly just good reminders, rather than relevational, but that's helpful too, and I'm coming away with a few new bits. I think I probably just have the run-of-the-mill sort of unconscious self-sabotage impulses here and there though, so it would probably help someone that really struggles with this much more. Personally, for my own level of use and enjoyment, I would probably give it a 3.5 rounded down to a 3, but overall, I think it's well done and could really help others, so all together I'm giving it 4 stars.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by the author, and she did a nice job of speaking as if she were discussing something in person, rather than trying to impress industry insiders, or giving a lecture.

Emma Gannon is amazing as ever! I loved this short, handy guide on how to be kind and get the best out of yourself. I loved that it wasn’t just about work, it covered things like friendship and boundaries too. Emma’s narration is brilliant and very soothing - I recommended the multi-hyphen life far and wide and will definitely be doing it with Sabotage too. The audiobook experience was great but I’m also tempted to buy the paperback (and the cover is lovely!).

Sabotage is (unsurprisingly) about sabotage, self sabotage and how to counter this in every day life. A short and sharp book that I think it would be brilliant for those in their early twenties / people starting their careers, I am slightly too old for the majority of the advice but I am glad that books like this are available for the next generation.

The audiobook was well narrated and Gannon does a good job of voicing the passion and kindness in her words.

I wanted to know if I actually Self Sabotage, I don’t well not that often as a human being. I just like many many projects/experiences to dabble in outside of work hours.

This book is a compact account of Sabotage, why people do it as well showing the reader techniques to counteract doing so. The advice is correct and useful, very easy to implement without a lifestyle coach or therapist.

This book is great for those not spiritually grounded, who are finding their way as a young person at work or for persons with self doubt or older persons starting over again after a big life crisis.

This was a short and to-the-point audiobook packed with practical examples and tips to stop sabotaging yourself. Emma Gannon explained how “fear” could actually tell you it’s something you want so deeply you use it as an excuse to run the other way. That is my relationship with the whole dating process. I want to find my person, but instead of giving people a chance, I would tell myself why it “wouldn’t work.” When this pandemic is over, and it’s safe to meet and date again, I’m not going to allow myself to self-sabotage anymore. I’m going to be open and pay attention to the life events that bring “fear.” If this fear pops up, it means I’m close to something or someone I really desire. Another idea discussed was procrastination. Emma encouraged us to “just start” instead of waiting to be “in the right mood” to begin that project. I want to get a physical copy to reference and keep myself accountable, so I’m aware of these “self-sabotage” moments and avoid them.

Short yet surprisingly comprehensive, Sabotage provides an overview of what self-sabotage is, the four ways it can manifest itself, and some tips on how you can overcome it.

This volume covers the topic of self-sabotage in a relatable, easy-to-digest and memorable manner, making it easy to look for ways to apply the concepts to your own life, or reference back later if you need a motivation boost to stop the cycle of self-sabotage. Listening to this via audiobook, performed by the author, upped the relatability and digestibility factors, as her tone of voice and the short format made it feel like a podcast, or a friend giving you advice.

Though at times the coverage on the topic was a bit shallow, since this book wasn’t presented as a scientific overview of the psychology behind self-sabotage, but rather as a brief relatable survey on what it is, how it manifests, and how to overcome it, overall I felt the topic was delved into with an appropriate level of thoroughness, especially for such a short volume.

Overall, I would recommend Sabotage to those who are looking for a quick overview on the topic and how to address the issue of self-sabotage in their own lives, rather than those who are looking for a more thorough, extremely comprehensive exploration on the topic. This book feels most relevant to those a few years into their career and suffering from imposter syndrome, but could still be relatable to a much wider range of readers.

Sabotage: How to Get Out of Your Own Way is the perfect self-help book. Fast-paced, succinct, and filled with meaningful advice, Emma Gannon speaks simply and respectfully to the reader. Instead of baby-talking the reader, Gannon offers tips and guidance in separating discouraging behaviors from an individual's worth. In this collection, Gannon frequently asks the reader to consider their own interests, feelings, and time. The audiobook is about 2 hours long, meaning the book practices what it preaches. Gannon gives the reader tools, encouragement, and personal anecdotes to help the reader discern what ways they can prevent sabotage and feel successful. After the Gannon's light-hearted stories and research-backed advice is shared, it is ultimately up to the reader to then digest the information and change for the better.

As someone who is incredibly resistant to the self-help genre, I found myself truly appreciating Emma Gannon's small little book. This is a book I would recommend to college students and overachievers alike, who may still be learning how to separate expectations from personal desires. In a world where there is more and more pressure to "be the best," I resonated with Gannon's ideas of being your own advocate and ally instead of another bully.

This easily digestible audio book strikes the perfect balance between exposing you to yourself in how much you are your own worst enemy when it comes to success, but also equipping you with the skills to make that wrong a right.

Emma Gannon saw into my soul in all of the ways I berate myself, second guess my capabilities and point blank don't try because then I can't have failed! Then her soothing tones reminded me that my ideology that if I don't try, then I can't fail, right? (RIGHT?!), is helping no one and is literally only harming me.

I love that this was narrated by Emma herself as it felt so much more like a friend telling you what you needed to hear. LOVED IT!

I had the privilege of listening to the Sabotage audiobook read by Emma Gannon, thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel publishing.

When I started listening to this book, I wasn't expecting it to be so applicable to be my life. I hadn't realized how I had unknowingly been sabotaging my own life and happiness. I felt like she was talking to me directly. Gannon touches on topics such as toxic friends, procrastination, negative self-talk, envisioning worst-case scenarios, imposter syndrome and perfectionism.

This book is a quick read, but is packed full of useful information, real-life examples and practical tips that make it a very engaging read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that feels there are areas of their life that are not optimal.

I generally prefer to read books in paperback format, however, I found Gannon's narration to be perfect for this book, and felt like I was hearing from someone who genuinely cared about my well-being. This is likely a book that I will reread and use as a reference in the future.

A couple of weeks ago I was having a therapy session when I had a light bulb moment and realized I have a nasty habit of self-sabotaging my life. Therefore the arrival of this book was kismet for me. It's a very short read, probably won't take you more than two hours max to get through. It delves into the issue of psychological self-sabotage and gives a good overview of the different causes and helpful tips to try and conquer the condition. I found myself relating on a deep level with the struggles Gannon experienced with self-sabotage and the creative process.

There isn't any earth-shattering information in the book, and being in a self-help book club for over a year and a half now none of the information was new to me. But sometimes it's good to have a condensed version on the topic and reinforce the message of stop letting yourself get in the way of your own success. I highly recommend this book for anyone curious about psychological self-sabotaging or if you know/suspect that you might be getting in your own way towards happiness. It's a great introduction and overview of the topic and quotes a lot of books that I highly recommend in the self-help genre.

I was surprised by this Audio Book. I am not big on Self-Help books. Often times I feel the books focus on the individual being responsible for things that I think are cultural, community, and national problems.

Emma Gannon is the narrator which I really appreciated. I like her voice and the way she speaks. It is obvious she speaks from her own experiences, and is down to earth and does not make grand promises. She does the opposite. Reminds us that it is easy to get in the habit of Self-Sabotage.

I especially liked her emphasis on reminding ourselves that we need to change patterns. Just start simple, when you hear your Inner Critic saying you can’t do this, shouldn’t try that, it’s too hard, you don’t deserve it, with practice you can quiet that down. I good suggestion is if you heard a friend speak like that, what would you say? Probably not the things we say to ourselves. Another great thing she pointed out is accepting friends/family that subtlety cut us down. This is toxic and says should talk to the person about it. Loved that she says, Anne Lamont says Perfectionism will ‘keep you cramped and insane your whole life’. This I do, and it stalls me from starting. I need to paint part of my house, and am actually quite good at it, but the ceiling are higher and so I’ve procrastinated even starting b/c I think it will not be perfect.

Comments on the amount of talk on self care. Yes, we need to take care of ourselves, but often this Self Care is used to convince us we deserve to buy ourselves stuff. Life is difficult and any changes we make are not going to come quick and easy. This is very practical advice. So, notice your accomplishments and achievements, even if small. Build on that. Happiness can be in your life and things may not go exactly as planned, but still things can go right if we get out of our way.

This was a really interesting listen. I read Olive by Emma Gannon last year and was interested to see what her non fiction work was like. This was a very thought provoking almost podcast like text. It raised some points that I think are really important but wasn’t overly pushy which was nice.

This is a very short read, with a very easy to listen audiobook. I actually quite enjoyed this self help book, and I think I gained a lot from reading it.

This is a great self help book for people looking to improve on who they are by analyzing what it is that is hindering their forward growth (and in this book... you learn how to get out of your OWN way as you are the roadblock.)

This is an easy to listen to audiobook that allows you to reflect and see how to apply techniques to help stop your own self sabotage.

Don’t judge a book by its page length, because although this one was short it packed a punch! I listened to the audiobook version of this book, but also purchased a paperback copy to follow along with and I am so glad I did. I’ll definitely be referring to and rereading the physical book for strength anytime I recognize sabotage-like behaviors.

The author did a great job getting her point across in a very concise and engaging way. The book was sprinkled with lists and guides to help you recognize the signs, cope, and better yourself which was truly my favorite part and the narrator was very clear. I especially loved that the author read the book herself. 😬😬

This short book was a great introduction to the topic of self-sabotage. It shows how most of the time we are accountable for feeling anxious.
The book held different amazing information and I honestly think that it is beneficial to the reader and helps in knowing more about how we could be sabotaging our own happiness.
It also indicates that every word we say to ourselves can affect our behavior and confidence, and it describes the different shapes and forms self-sabotage can take, such as procrastination, inner critics, and others.
Most importantly, I think that the author did a great job with the simple yet important tips that she provided throughout her book. Those tips could help us stop sabotaging ourselves and boost our confidence to achieve our goals and be successful.
I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.!!

This is a great book on how we sabotage ourselves. It has some basic helpful tips to help you overcome these self-sabotaging ways. Very short and to the point without all the extra nonsense.

I will be rereading this one in the near future. Grab you a pen and paper as you read or listen to this in order to do the steps in this book.

This was one of those books that I stumbled across at exactly the right time. In Sabotage, Gannon explains the many ways that people (particularly women) get in the way of their own success. I related to so many of the examples of self-sabotage that were given throughout the book. Much of the information and facts were things I already knew, but Gannon presents it in a very organized and actionable way. I enjoyed the audiobook format and this was a great wakeup call that encouraged me to stop doubting myself and start believing I deserve good things.

Before this book/recording, I had never read or listened to anything Emma Gannon has published. This recording was short and to the point. I loved that about it. No sense beating a dead horse. Most people that turn to self help/self care books do so to find answers they are seeking, even though many times we know some of the answers.

This book pinpoints the issues and gives you ideas and solutions to help you "get out of your own way".

I want to buy the book when it comes out, so that I can highlight the areas I listened to and continously apply it to my life.

I do recommend this book to anyone who sabotages their success in life or suffer from Imposter syndrome.

This book is short and sweet, 96 pages in print, just under two hours in the audiobook that I had the joy to read, if joy can be interpreted as dread inducing..
Being a master of Self Sabotage, it's nearly where my constant mind set and while I know it isn't healthy. It doesn't make it any easier to escape.

This book while a direct confrontation to an unhealthy habit I have, it also felt like it paired with a warm hug. Like a friend working to support you and introduce you to healthy coping mechanisms to replace the ones you already have.

This book is definitely is a introduction with the topic, consumable to most. people. Easy to interpret and apply.

I have to say this book is exactly what I needed right now.
Does it say something you've never heard before? Probably not if you're familiar with books on the topic but there is a lot of important information and tips.

All in all, I'll give it 5 stars because it came in the exact time and that wins it all.

Being big on self-sabotage, I quickly picked this book when I saw. It is a very well organized pocket book, and you can read it in a go. I think the size was perfect. One of my biggest problems with self-help book is that it gets quite repetitive at times, and most of it ends being stories from the author or a person he knows. I like reading about it, but it can get tiring at times. So I like this one because it was compact, and though the author's talks about hers and other people experiences it does not get too crowded - and it is relevant for the subject. I do wish however most of it was not tailored to the creative arts (at least it was my feeling), but it not take away from the main message of the book.

Added: I did not realize, but I ended up getting the audiobook and re-reading it lol I quite recommended, the narrator is quite good and it was a nice reading on my walks.

I enjoyed this short self-help book by Emma Gannon, read by Emma Gannon. Her personal stories and practical tips are useful for anyone who tends to second guess or sabotage their own work, as I think most of us do, at various points in our lives. Advice was always given with compassionate insight.

Emma has a clear voice with a lovely accent. For me, a visual learner, I would get more out of this type of book with a printed copy, something I can underline and go back to easily. Nonetheless, it was well worth my time.

These series of stories and research-based insights are wonderfully packaged in this quick and easy self-help guide. And in true fashion, I procrastinated in reading this book.

I am a HUGE procrastinator and it was comforting to this relatable book. I also enjoyed how Gannon provided TIPS throughout the book and thought-provoking questions to answer.

Discussing topics such as procrastination and imposter syndrome, I related hard to Gannon’s notes on self-promotion and feeling like I haven’t earned a title or specific achievement (I’m currently working on this at work with my boss). I need to learn to promote myself more and boast about my well-earned achievements.

“Stop minimizing achievements.”

This one isn’t an in-depth guide, but as someone who loves short and concise, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I listened and read this one. I loved listening to Emma Gannon’s narration, but would recommend either format!

Can’t hurt, might help!

This book is a wonderful choice especially if you haven’t read self-help books in the past. It’s comprehensive and easy to understand. The author uses her own behavior as examples & what she’s tried to overcome the sabotage. I found the suggestions logical and accurate.

The audiobook book is narrated by the Author, Emma Gannon. The delivery is friendly and truthful. It’s easy to get through with narration being less than 2-hours!

Imposter Syndrome – have you heard of it? It’s not as commonly understood as it should be. I myself only learned the term in 2020. You know, the year we all stayed home and suddenly learned the meaning of life (kidding). I’ve struggled my adult life with Imposter Syndrome, and just a year ago I learned its name.

If I can do this, anyone can. I’m not special.
For years, when someone congratulated me for graduating college, getting a job promotion, etc. on the inside I would think, well anyone could do that. Rationally, I know I worked for these things. Irrationally, I don’t feel deserving. Just because I graduated college doesn’t mean that anyone else couldn’t do that too.

Luck has been a key word in my brain too. I’ve always felt like my happiness and success came from luck. While listening to Sabotage, I’ve come to learn that we might start a job or a task by chance, but it is our own skills and determination that will decide what we do with that chance.

You deserve success, and you define what success means to you.
One of my favorite things that Emma Gannon talks about in her book, Sabotage, is that we define our own success. That we should consider success a race track. We determine the road, and we set the finish line. Once it’s crossed, we set a new road and keep going. It’s challenging to stop comparing our own life to the lives of others. By focusing inward on what our own happiness looks like, we can realize even small victories on the path to individual success.

Evaluate who you keep as friends.
Those of us who struggle with self doubt should also evaluate the friendships and relationships we keep. Are they healthy for our growth? Gannon tells a story of her own toxic friendship that she kept for much longer than she should have. Before listening to her book, I hadn’t considered that the way I allow others to talk to me affects my self worth. I do have people in my life that I don’t enjoy sharing good news with. When someone starts a compliment with a negative reaction offset by a positive, it’s discouraging. Example: “I could never do what you did. But you’re brave for trying.” or my personal favorite (not), “Oh wow. Must be nice.” I’m hoping to be brave enough to challenge these remarks head on in the future.

Overall, this audiobook get five stars from me.
I think Emma Gannon allowed herself to be vulnerable for the chance to help others. I don’t have a long history of self-help books but I think any little piece of a book that can cause you to reflect and hopefully heal, is worth your time. Sabotage by Emma Gannon is well worth your time and I’m proud of her for taking a leap, and reading this book herself.

Emma Gannon's Sabotage isn't as catchy as the Beastie Boys but it's a good kick up the arse for anyone who needs it.

An exploration of self-sabotage, how to knock it off, and how to get out of your own way.

Sabotage, read by the author on this audiobook, is an easy to listen to, brief book about numerous ways we self sabotage our own lives.
Filled with quotes from various sources, the book reminds us of ways to remedy our sabotaging ways. It’s a book I will listen to again, whenever I need to be reminded...I’m worth my own investment of time and energy.
