With a captivating introduction to the history and benefits of herbs, the author dives into the reasons natural remedies should be preferred over pharmaceutical medication. She explains the underlying causes of insomnia and explores different lifestyle modifications that will help you get the quality sleep you deserve. Further into this book, you will discover many herbs, the ailments they treat, how they are used, and herbal tea recipes that naturally induce feelings of calmness and boost relaxation. This book has many positive aspects. I did not discover many errors while reading this book; this proves that it was professionally edited. The author's writing style is effortless to understand, well organized, and thorough. The cautions on some popular herbs were my favorite parts of this book. For instance, I learnt that nutmeg should not be excessively taken. Most people detest herbal remedies because of how bitter some taste. However, this book shows that unpleasant herbs do not have to be endured in most cases. They can be mixed with one or more pleasant ones to give a better taste and scent. Even though modern drugs are more standardized than natural remedies, the latter is much safer if taken under the guidance of a trained herbalist. With that being said, the author highlights numerous herbs for common ailments such as asthma, digestive problems, skin conditions, menopausal symptoms, and premenstrual syndrome, among others. If you are interested in knowing how big the herbal medicine industry is, the description of some herbs, their origin, active constituents, and benefits, this is the perfect book for you. The author also detailedly provided the percentage of people that rely on herbs and the benefits of herbal bedtime teas.

Furthermore, this book details the effects of sleep deprivation, good sleep habits and tips, side effects of sleeping pills, types and stages of sleep, relaxation techniques, and the reasons for insomnia. I enjoyed participating in the breathing exercises and relaxing techniques that the author explained, which turned out to be very relieving. Every detail in this book makes it important to have a copy with you at all times.

This book does not have any downsides. It is not only a book for advanced herbalists but a must-read for beginners. It lists all the essential herbs, how to use them, and why you would use them. For the reasons mentioned above, I rate this book four out of four stars. If you have difficulty sleeping or are interested in making herbal remedies, I highly recommend this book to you."

Benefits of Herbs

Rosemary Shaw provides indepth background information on medicinal herbs and their use in various cultures. She discusses some of the many classifications in which herbs can be uses, such as tinctures, compressions, ointments, infusions, volatile oils (also known as essential oils), and many other methods of use.

The author states that even if we are not using herbal remedies to treat a specific disease, it is still beneficial to take some to prevent general illness, because regular use of herbal medicine has several benefits, including the following:
1. Increased antioxidant level
2. Herbs have antibacterial properties
3. Herbs are great for chronic conditions
4. Good for weight loss - Herbal teas are also great for reducing calories and cholesterol in your blood. They bind the cholesterol, making it easier to excrete through the liver and, keep your heart happy in a roundabout way.

This is a great book on herbal healing remedies. The author discusses many health issues and herbal remedies that are known to produce significant benefits as an alternative to modern medicine. I feel book is a source for exploring the many healthy and Ayurvedic way of treating a lot of health issues.

I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it to anyone suffering from any of the many health issues identified herein this book.

Herbal Healing Remedies is a must have for any naturalists book shelf! Even though it focuses primarily on insomnia it is also filled with information on other common ailments and remedies. It starts with anatomy and the different components of herbs and then transitions to precautions and also how to safely use herbs.

I really enjoyed all the information included about insomnia! I had no idea there were so many causes but also enjoyed all the tips included to beat it. The breakdowns on each herb and all the teas and tonics will be super helpful!

I give this book a 5 star rating. Thanks to Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy.

Very informative overview of using herbs & herbal remedies. The author covers many different symptoms/ illnesses, but specifically insomnia.

Descriptive information for over 100 different recommended herbs, their uses, benefits, etc. They also include several recipes for teas.

The author has obviously done their research & is very knowledgeable about herbs & herbal treatments/uses. I appreciated the methodical approach & thoroughly descriptive narrative.

I absolutely love this book! It is so well thought out and presented. It is thorough and also succinct enough not to lose the reader in information overload. It's a beautiful compendium, rich with important and helpful information about herbal remedies, why they work, where they originated, and why we as a society are discovering that the old ways of naturopathic medicines are still some of the most potent and reliable methods of healing available to us. I will most definitely be using this book to aid in my continued creation of homemade healthcare items, and you should too.

Getting back to the basics, I have spent the last decade focused on natural remedies and healing. This is a great book for anyone interested in the topic, no matter where you are on your journey. 

Add this to your herbal toolbox and you’ll find yourself referencing it more often than you may think you will at he moment.

This is a must-have resource to help one improve their health, resiliency, and live a more full and happy life. It is full of great strategies, advice, and easy to implement ideas. Good habits lead to more restful sleeping. I agree with this author that too much caffeine and stress will disrupt your sleeping patterns..

The causes and remedies for insomnia, as well as many other common ailments, are discussed and explained in great depth - almost as if these were course materials for an actual class that the author might be teaching! The total lack of visual aids (i.e, no pictures or drawings of the herbs, for example) had me thinking that this was in fact a teaching manual.

The author has a very methodical approach in presenting her materials. She makes a good case for opting to use herbal remedies over conventional medicine. She also provides you with her "must have" top herbs to always have on hands.

I was intrigued by many of the herbal combinations that she suggested for various common ailments. I am going to recommend this book for people who are serious about using herbal remedies over conventional medications. I am only deducting a point because there are no visual aids. Hibiscus, for example, has many health benefit - and produces beautiful flowers. We read and learn with both our eyes and our senses.

Overall, a well written and well-researched guidebook on healthful herbs. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was fascinating, a book to have in my bookcase for reference. There are many things that are worth trying even if then you have to seek medical attention also. We use herbs a lot in cooking and had not really considered the health benefits, only the taste. Definately something I will need to read again.

Herbal Healing Remedies is a very informative but not overwhelmingly so, book about over 100 herbs and their benefits along with herbal remedies you can use them in. The book informs us of the origins of said herbs, how they work and benefit us and how even today we rely on and use old remedies and herbs for healing and health benefits. I loved the fact this book contains recipes for making your own herbal teas and really can't wait to give them a go!
A brilliant book for anyone looking for a health benefit from herbalism and to learn more about it too.

This book will be a staple in my home. We are moving away from western medicine and more in herbal medicine. This book does a fantastic job on description and uses of herbs and recipes.

I am not a fan prescribed medicine. So this book will be added to my herbal library. It is detailed, to the point and very informative. It is also told in easy to understand terms. I like that it is very through in explanations and what to use it for. I love growing herbs and have used them as a replacement for minor illnesses for years.

Introduced as a beginner's guide to the herbal approach, especially targeting insomnia - and definitely delivers as advertised. I have good background in herbalism, and found the approach and information perfect for someone just starting out. Basic information, good tie in to pharma approach, and appropriate contingencies outlined.

not sure who of my friends would read this book but i did tell a few i thought would so hopefully they read this book.Might keep this book on hand for some things

Such a well written organized book. One well worth adding to the herbal library for any herbalist. A lot to learn, reference and grow as an herbalist.

It was a bit hard to follow the arc version in kindle so I look forward to reviewing the print final copy.

**Thank you to Rosemary Shaw and NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book in exchange for an honest review!** I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was an interesting read. I was recently diagnosed with Endometriosis and I am becoming more interested in learning different ways to deal with my illness. One of the things about my disease is that I should be following a more anti-inflammatory diet and I feel like this book really helped me to consider all of the parts of nutrition and health. It also enabled me to understand the ways that we impact our health and the steps that we can take that we can take to improve our help. Insomnia is also a major symptom of my disease and this book really helped me to have tips to improve my insomnia and reduce sleep disturbances.
