Description

In this thrilling debut from award-winning filmmaker Nolan Cubero, a young father must investigate his mysterious new tenant and discover what secrets she’s hiding—while trying to keep his own.

Landlord Gabriel Angueira is trying to put his life back together. His teenage daughter, Megan, was seriously injured in a car accident caused by her own drunk driving, though Gabe blames himself. Since the accident he has spent every day taking care of her, reflecting on his failures as a father, and trying to rebuild his relationship with his ex-wife, Anya.

So, when a woman wants to rent the house on Shadow Drive, Gabe hands her the keys without a second thought—or doing a background check. Once she moves in, he discovers everything she told him was a lie: her name, her story, her previous address. Gabe knows nothing about this mysterious woman, but she knows a lot about him—and quickly begins destroying the house from the inside out. Gabe soon realizes she’s specifically targeted him and the house on Shadow Drive but has no idea why.

Now Gabe must figure out who this woman is before she unearths his family’s secrets and takes down the house—along with his entire life as he knows it.

This right here is a landlord's worst nightmare. I really enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. It was so nerve-wracking that I found myself speed reading just to get through it and the anxiety it brought. The protagonist was extremely likeable which made me so much more invested in this story. It has the perfect amount of mystery, suspense, and emotion and I would love to see this play out on the big screen, it definitely has the potential for it. I highly recommend this for any mystery/thriller readers. Four Stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for this ARC.

The house at 8160 Shadow drive has good bones but the secrets that lay inside the walls are mortifying.

A landlord’s worst nightmare.
A missing person.
A coverup.
A dead body.

My eyes were glued to the pages of this thriller as my mind untangled the horror that’s been secluded inside the house on Shadow Drive. I can’t stop thinking about the surprising ending, the clues were all there but I was placing all the pieces together alongside the main character and the final twist made my heart rate speed up and left me breathless. 😲

Nolan Cubero brought readers the creepiness in this debut novel. I can see this book becoming popular amongst mystery/thriller enthusiasts and I would love to see this turn into either a tv show or movie.

Wow, this was an excellent debut. I’ve been looking for a good mystery for a while and this definitely hit the mark. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another layer would be added. I love how everything concluded and all questions were answered. The writing had a great flow and once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down. Short chapters helped make this a really fast paced read. I can’t wait to read what Cubero writes next! Highly recommend to all mystery fans.

Here's a hot tip, if you have secrets don't rent to someone without doing a background check.
