Reporter Branislav Poborsky is running away from a bad marriage when he witnesses the Czech army covering up the extermination of an entire village. Saved in extremis by the gentle-giant Mossad agent Eytan Morgenstern, he is thrown into a troubling race to defuse a larger-than-life conspiracy. After Eytan’s mentor is kidnapped, he must join forces with his arch-rival to put an end to a mysterious group that has weapons of mass destruction. Once again, the atrocities of World War II come back to haunt the modern world. What links exist between Japanese camps in China in the 1940s, a US Army research center in the 1950s, and the deadly threat Eytan faces today? From Prague to Tokyo, with stops in Ireland, yesterday’s enemies become today’s best allies and mankind seems on the verge of repeating the errors of the past.

A great read though not quite as good as The Bleiberg Project. This time the book centres on Eytan Morg chasing not only the ex-Nazi gene manipulators but also the Japanese ones. The book also describes Eytan's background in more details. I'm still looking forward to the final instalment.

Brilliant!! I had the misfortune to start this book one morning, just having a quick five minutes, well that was how it started as I then found I couldn't put the book down.

Superbly written and translated, the story follows Eytan, won't go into too many details about who he is, you need to read it and don't want to spoil any surprises.

The story is told via a few different countries and over many years, loads of twists and turns and keeps you guessing the whole way. It's action packed, with a great story line.

The characters were well written, and kept me engrossed.

Highly recommended, read it you will not be disappointed.

Mossad agent Eytan Morgenstern is back! And this time, he's battling the Nazis as well as the Japanese. It's another rip-roaring, fast-paced action adventure, with more background details on Eytan, some grizzly human experiments in Japan during World War II, and some high-octane action. In a nutshell, everything you've come to expect from Eytan. Brilliant...and I can't wait for more!

Fans of thrillers and spy books alike are certain to enjoy David Khara’s The Shiro Project, a follow up to The Bleiberg Project. Using the same narrative style, traveling between the past and the present, Mr. Khara continues to develop his anti-hero Eytan Morg as he battles “The Consortium”, a villainous organization bent on world domination. Adding to the emotional angst and tension of the story, Mr. Khara provides Eytan with an interesting sidekick as they travel between Tokyo and Prague in their battle to stop The Consortium’s latest attack. While a part of a series, this book can be enjoyed on its own.

Having already met Eytan Morg in The Bleiberg Project, I was thrilled with how Mr. Khara provides further development of his character. A man who excels at completing whatever mission he’s assigned, regardless of how many people he has to kill to do it, Eytan Morg is more than just an agent for Kidron (a secret faction of Mossad) – he’s also a friend, a painter and a man determined that no one will ever go through what he himself has undergone at the hands of The Consortium. While Eytan is a man who has seen and done things I personally could never imagine, I completely connected with him and found myself totally rooting for his success at whatever task he had to undertake. I even found him occasionally amusing and very likeable.

When Eytan’s boss, and personal friend, Eli Karman is kidnapped enroute to New York by “The Consortium”, Eytan is forced to work with Elena, the woman he captured at the end of The Bleiberg Project. While Elena is reluctant to help Eytan at first, she soon finds herself his companion and travels with him as they track down the people responsible for wiping out an entire Czech village while testing a weapon originally developed in the U.S. While Elena has some major issues, she’s really emotionally and morally messed up, she is an interesting character and I have to admit I find her intriguing.

Will Eytan and Elena be able to stop “The Consortium” from unleashing a new weapon of “mass destruction”? Will Eytan be able to rescue Eli in time? You’ll have to read The Shiro Project to find out. I highly enjoyed this quickly paced thriller and can’t wait to see what Mr. Khara dreams up for his characters next!

The Shiro Project by David Khara
(Consortium Thriller Book 2 - translated from the French by Sophie Weiner)

Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Eytan Morg(enstern) is a Mossad agent and Nazi hunter. He is also the first patient to live through Professor Bleiberg’s genetic manipulations, thus giving him greatly enhanced physical and mental abilities. (See The Bleiberg Project also by David Khara and the first in The Consortium series.)

When his best friend, Eli Karman is kidnapped by The Consortium, Morg is coerced to work with his nemesis Elena (also a result of Bleiberg’s ministrations and a member of The Consortium). Their mission – to find the group responsible for the theft of biological weapons.

When biological attacks occur in Moscow and the Czech Republic, Eytan and Elena are forced to co-operate and work against the clock to eliminate the threat and enable Eli Karman’s release.

David Khara has produced a book that is topical and fast-paced. The interaction between Eytan and Elena is intriguing in that despite their diametrically opposed points of view, there is definitely a degree of frisson in the relationship.

The book moves between, not only places, but time frames, and whilst this may seem a little unwieldy, it actually adds to the overall tightness of the plot and the whole novel - from 1943 through to the present and from places such as Japan, Manchuria, Brussels and Prague.

For readers who love surprises and real pace in a plot, this is a book to read.

Having read and loved The Bleiberg Project, I looked forward to this book with great anticipation. I was not disappointed. David Khara has created a world of intrigue where an organization called The Consortium plot to rule the world. In the previous book, their greatest nemesis, Eytan Morgenstern, thwarted their plans. He is the gigantic superhuman whose power was a result of Nazi genetic engineering. As a Mossad agent, he travels the world trying to save the innocent and punish the guilty.
So when his dearest and only friend and mentor is kidnapped by The Consortium, he is forced to enter into an uneasy truce with his female counterpart Elana. Someone is setting off chemical terrorism where entire communities are obliterated. Governments are keeping the news under wraps as it might reveal their complicity in the production of these viral agents.
As the two search for the source of the terror, they must learn to trust each other enough not to kill each other. Eytan is such a complex character but one who is still likeable. As he and Elena fight together and more of their stories unfold, they became for me almost more important to the story than the mystery itself.
If there are more stories in this series, I look forward to them. The book delivers a fulfilling punch with enough twists and turns to satisfy. I recommend this one highly.

Having read and enjoyed 'The Bleiberg Project', the first in the Consortium series, I was expecting a similar storyline and plot, given the protagonist, Eytan Morg's much stated aim to thwart the evil machinations of the Consortium. However this book showed a more subtle approach to the winning formula of the first, pitting Eytan and his former adversary together against a common foe, blurring the traditional lines of enemy and hero. I liked the way the character of Eytan was developed from the first book, showing a more nuanced personality and a greater emotional involvement in the relationship with his mission partners. Lots of fast-paced action and intriguing background made this an exciting page-turner and an excellent winter read. More adventures from David Khara and his fascinating giant, Eytan, please!

This continues from the first book in the series - The Bleiberg Project. It stands on it's own but I would still suggest reading the first book. Whereas in the first book Jeremy Corbin seems to me to be the main character, the storyline is actually about Eytan Morgenstern. This time a reporter finds out about the Czech army covering up about the annihilation of a whole village. Eytan is threatened by the Consortium once again and old enemies are new comrades. Fast paced, lots of action, WWII once again haunts the modern world. An addictive read.

This is one riveting narrative. I could not put this down, definitely read this when responsibilities won't demand your time and attention, you won't be able to loosen your grip from this fast paced enthralling story. At first the reader is lead to believe the core of the plot is so far out there but....as the story unravels you discover anything is possible as it screams plausibility. The characters come across as realistic and down right believable through actions, behaviors, thoughts and back story's. A part of me weakened for Eytan. Heck even hardcore Elena tugged at my heart. No doubt this is one major league compelling thriller ending all too soon, leaving the reader craving more. I have not had the privilege of reading THE BLEIBERG PROJECT, the first installment in the series but I plan on remedying this issue by running out and purchasing it pronto. Reading THE SHIRO PROJECT as a standalone posed no problem, unless motivating me to run out and sang book one is a problem. I cannot wait until THE MORGENSTERN PROJECT is available in the US. Referring to this trilogy as epic is an understatement, this is one amazing trilogy, biting my nails, as I anxiously await THE MORGENSTERN PROJECT. Highly highly recommend.

Superb plot ...not a dull moment.

a remarkable thriller! I hesitate before giving it five stars, as it is for me worth 4 and a half... but it's only fair to round it to the higher number.. It keeps you wanting to know the rest, full of suspense and violence without being disgusting like some can be. It may even pretend to have morals and it is brilliantly written. You would never think it has been translated from French as it just sounds natural. I certainly did not expect something that good, even after reading the critics from Le Monde et al, which where amazing.
The story is quite complicated, but let's say to summarize that a guy was genetically manipulated by Hitler and other powers wanting to create a super man. He does not age, has amazing strength, and intelligence. He wants to help the world as much as possible and has appeared in the 2 first thrillers of the author, which I sadly did not get to read. In this episode, he faces people willing to use biological weapons to try once again to create a super race, immune against most diseases. The frightening part is that the author uses events of the past years to illustrate his theory, like the metro killings in Moscow in 2010, integrates them in the story, until it sounds totally realistic.
No matter what you usually like, you have to read it and you will understand what I mean. I must leave, I have to find a way to get the Bleiberg project and the Remains of Dawn...

If you read The Bleiberg Project, you will want to read this book, which is the second in the Consortium Series. I read David Khara's SHIRO PROJECT as a stand-alone, nonetheless. Our protagonist Eytan Morgenstern, is a survivor of a Nazi program to build the perfect race. He is a prototype. The Nazis finished two -- a man, and a woman. Eytan Morgenstern and Elena know of each other as foes, each desperately wishing to kill the other. For now, they need to work together against the release of a WMD of the insidious type: an airborne virus that delivers death immediately. At first I thought the book was a bit dry for a thriller. I also thought there was a lot going on that seemed like a treadmill...happening, but not going far! As I got into the book, I liked it more as I went along, learning about the characters and seeing their emotions. There's even a point of true bitter-sweetness. A good read.

This is the second in a series, and although you do not have to read all three, I highly recommend that you do read them all. This book introduces new characters and gives you more information on Eytan Morgenstern. You also get much more information on the evil Consortium. Its a thriller set in World War II Europe and Japan. There is a lot shown that I did not realize about Japan's role in WWII. David S.Khara is an established author in France, being introduced in America.

“The Shiro Project” was published in 2014 and was written by David Khara (http://www.dskhara.com). Mr. Khara has published 6 novels, three in the “Consortium” series. This is the second book in that series.

I obtained a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I would categorize this novel as ‘R’ as there are instances of Violence and Mature Language. This Thriller novel covers from the thirties as the Japanese were expanding into China until current day. Most of the action is in Europe, but some is also in Japan. The key characters are Elena, a young, beautiful, and deadly Consortium agent, and Eytan Morg.

Mossad agent Eytan’s close friend and mentor Eli Karman is kidnapped by the Consortium. To gain Eli’s freedom, Eytan is forced to work with rival agent Elena who had shot him twice during the story told in the first book of the series, “The Bleiberg Project”. Now Eytan and Elena must work together to find who is behind the use of a biological weapon that has killed hundreds. The trail eventually leads to Japan and to those associated with medical research the Japanese military carried out on prisoners during World War II.

Elena has been an assassin for the Consortium so her hands are far from being clean. She has undergone a treatment similar to that performed on Eytan, though in her case by her consent. Her skills are every bit as sharp as his, but he has a softer side. While they start as deadly enemies, they gradually develop a friendship.

I liked the plot of this novel. It took a little more than 5 hours to complete this spy thriller novel. I thought it was a solid story, perhaps not quite as good as the first. I give this novel a 4 out of 5.

As exciting as the previous books in this series, the story unites two mortal enemies, both with enhanced powers, to combat a global menace. The scenes are realistic as the action takes place at various places and times. The reader develops a much netter appreciation of the actions in the present from the flashbacks. I wish the story had been longer because the reading is so enjoyable.. Khara is truly a master of the game.

Etyan is the main character of this novel. He teams up with his each enemy Elana. The Shiro project is named after a ruthless Japanese General Shiro who has done unspeakable experiments on humans and was involved of the making of bio weapons. Branislav, a journalist witnesses the extinction of an entire village. Just before he is to be killed, Eytan and Elana are finding and destroying the group that has mass destruction weapons. The ending of this novel is unexpected.
The novel is fast paced and brings a chilling of nerves. It is an exciting thriller. It is a rewarding read. There is never a dull moment. It is an original, eye opening and entertaining read.

This is the second book in the Consortium trilogy. The book begins on an army base in Maryland in the year 1957. The base has a research center and laboratory. They conduct tests on subjects but there are certain levels in the building that remains off limits except for the highest security level. Someone released an airborne virus in the building and killed the scientists.

We then find ourselves in 2011 in the Czech Republic and meet Branislav Poborsky, a journalist. On his way to visit his parents, police officers stop him. They explain the road is closed and he must turn around and go another way. He tries to call his parents but the calls are unable to be completed. He turns the car around and after going around a bend in the road pulls the car off onto the side of the road. He walks in the woods to see if he can see what has happened. The scene before him horrifies him. Three men dressed in military gear approach him from behind. Before he knows what is going on a fourth man enters the forest, the giant we know as Eytan Morg.

We then jump back five days to the Israeli Embassy in Brussels and find Eli Karman looking for Eytan. Not only does he find Eytan but he also finds Elena. She is in a medically induced coma because she is extremely dangerous. Eytan gets a telephone call from a man, “Cypher.” He has kidnapped Eli who is very important to Eytan. He would do anything to save Eli. Cypher gives him orders but the first is to have Elena released so she can work with him. They are to work together to find and destroy the research lab known as the Shiro Project.

The book takes us on a roller coaster ride. The action moves so fast it keeps the reader hooked. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the final book in the series.

The Shiro Project by David S. Khara The back history and story that is Eytan Morg, has never affected his job as much as the Shiro Project. Shiro is a notorious evil scientist that during the Japanese occupation of China, committed acts of human atrocities. Throwing out the rule book about research and human treatment Shiro conducted atrocities killing and destroying prisoners and unwanted peoples during the war. Eytan has to face his own origins and look at his evaluation of life and what his job is. Eytan has spent years finding and punishing the Nazi researchers and scientist who tortured people during World War II. Eytan who had been experimented on during the Bleiberg Project David Khara’s previous book has to struggle with his feelings. His super human strength and intelligence has been of use to the Mossad, in protecting his people and finding those whom question human treatment in the pursuit of knowledge. This is an informative story showing how human treatment has been overlooked in the pursuit of science and military development. The resulting investigation not only changes the characters view point but the reader. The book brings into question our need for medical treatments, military strategy and those who are empowered by such behavior.

A much better written story than Bleiberg (the first in the Consortium series). Fast paced and a thoroughly good read, almost impossible to put down!

An amazing continuation of the Bleiberg Project (or in my case, the culmination of the 3 books since I read them out of order). Eytan Morgenstern is back, but when his friend is taken hostage, he is forced to team up with an enemy from the first book in order to find him, along with accomplishing another mission. The Shiro Project is just as exciting as Bleiberg and Morgenstern, with a different spin on the WW2 atrocities that Eytan must avenge.

There are three books in the Consortium Series. The Shiro Project is the second one. It is the first one that I have read. It didn't take me long to catch up on all the main characters and their relationship to each other. It was written in a way that I thought was probably not too redundant for those who read the first book.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I had to keep reminding myself that the author was French. One of the main characters is the United States and various "programs", known and unknown, that are initiated by governmental agencies. I believe the author was a political journalist at one point in his life which may account for his knowledge and cynicism for American agencies (which I agree with). It has much in common with the Daniel Silva books in that the themes are contemporary, the good guys are also bad guys and more likely than not, justice prevails. That is a recipe for a good thriller that is fun. And this book was fun to read.
