Description

This addictive middle reader series addresses many issues such as diversity, courage, loyalty, and bravery. In addition to the boys strength all through the series, it features strong female characters as well, and friendships that win your heart! With a rapid pace on a wild ride of adventure that hops all over the globe. The Red Hand Adventures actually makes the Middle East cool, revealing a heart-warming view through the eyes of these children and the rebels who help them along the way. Librarians have told us that they recommend this series to reluctant readers since it is such a page turner. Also had a bookseller note that it is refreshing to have a new series that boys absolutely love as well as girls. Legends of the Rif is book 3 in The Red Hand Adventures.

The winds of war sweep across Morocco in 1912 as the brutal Caid Ali Tamzali prepares to declare himself as supreme dictator. The only hope of freedom is a small ragtag group of resistance fighters who are being stalked and hunted across the desert and mountains.

In the catacombs of Kathmandu, a young boy learns the ancient ways of Nepal and
the Red Hand legend. In the cities of Morocco, an underground resistance of street
boys and outcasts gives support to three young friends who must rely on their wits
and courage as they are hunted across the Sahara. Their British friend, Margaret,
risks everything to save her wrongly imprisoned father. With the help of her French
schoolmates, Margaret defies authority in search of justice. Meanwhile, Tariq learns
of the Red Hand from Melbourne Jack as he explains the importance of his journey
to North Africa. And, a new enemy is discovered in the dark jungles of Ceylon as the
courageous Foster Crowe is determined to balance the scales. A battle of good
against evil will echo through eternity.

"Whether intended for a YA or adult audience, this is a book the entire family can enjoy reading...The book reads like a Boy's Own adventure and is filled with action involving bandits, pirates and rebels, reminding the reader of such grand entertainments as Rudyard Kipling's Kim, Michael Chabon's Gentlemen of the Road and John Milius' The Wind and the Lion."

Kenneth Salikof for IndieReader, Four Stars, Reviewing Rebels of the Kasbah.

"Debut author O'Neill incorporates a great deal of cultural and historical context in his story... and will make the readers feel as though they have traveled back in time and fallen into that world. An exciting, exotic tale... The cliffhanger ending all but demands that readers jump to the next installment of the series."

Once again this book rocks! This series just keeps it coming. I love this book! The adventure was just as exciting in this book as in he first. Even with one of the main characters blinded, the plot was continuous and the action was just was as interesting as in the other books.

I would like to thank Blackship Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This book was so much better, in my opinion, than book 2 was. Definitely worth reading on, whether or not you liked book 2.
This book has a lot of adventure, which is exactly what I was looking for in these books. And the story of The Red Hand comes out in great detail, and was kind of an "aha" thing for me. I loved it.
I really enjoyed a lot about this book - the adventure; the furthering of several storylines; the character growth in the boys. What I still didn't enjoy, though, was Margaret. I feel like this book was represented as an adventure book for boys and girls...but only the boys really grow and get the good action. Margaret kind of is stuck at school without a lot going on. Not that NOTHING was going on, but not even half the action of what happens to the boys. Disappointing.
That aside, I still feel like this is a really strong and exciting adventure series for young people. And a series that adults can, obviously, enjoy as well. I am really looking forward to book 4 when it comes out next year.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I am never compensated for my reviews.
