Description

Our words can be so cruel. Used wrongly, they can discourage people, cut open the heart and destroy someone's self-confidence—even ignite a fire and drive crowds to violence. And once they're spoken, they can never be recalled. Words enter our ears and burrow themselves deep into our hearts … often never to be forgotten. It's little wonder that the Bible instructs us to control our tongues. Inspired by James 3:1-12, and filled with 40 engaging stories and dozens of relevant Scriptures, this book encourages you to use your speech positively—speaking kindness, sharing words that heal, expressing love, and praising God.

As an author I know the power of words, even those words that aren't meant to hurt can hurt and have long lasting consequences those jabs and little jokes can wear a person's spirit down, but tin this book by Michael Ross and Brian Doyle we are reminded that not only can words hurt but they can also heal.

This book inspired by the verses in James 3:1-12 remind us that as Christians we often go underground in our struggles because 1.) we're afraid of being scorned by the church, 2:) we're convinced we will never measure up to what the Bible says about purity and holiness, and 3:) we're clueless about how to handle our struggles in very practical or personal ways. This book reminds us that it is easy to feel loved by God when we have our act together, but during the times you are not so together it does seem harder.

Words can also have the power to bring us great fear, even if the threat is seemingly empty it can do damage to our psyche's. Again it goes back to thinking before we speak and not damaging someone's psyche, and hurting them for a long time to come.

We are encouraged in this book to not to only to mind our words in front of our loved one's but to use them wisely in the work place as well. We as Christians need to set a good example and that involves minding how we use our words, what we say, and how we say it.

If you are looking for a good study on healing words and how to use them, a book on how to allow healing for words that hurt you in the past then Words that Heal is just the ticket.

I give this book five out of five stars.
