Description

Instant New York Times bestselling author Gwenna Laithland, aka Momma Cusses, is back with a collection of Thinky Thoughts (essays, memories, poems and more!) perfect for readers of Jenny Lawson, Samantha Irby and KC Davis.

Before I was a mom who cusses, I was a millennial. Before I was that, I was just a kid with a brain that moved too fast. I've spent more time than I'm proud of getting lost in my Thinky Thoughts. They go a little something like this:

How has my childhood shaped my motherhood? I might have lost my phone again. Is it that big a deal if the kids call me cringe? I haven't left the house today. Is it a problem that I don't leave the house for days? Why does my daughter hate rollercoasters but love adzuki beans? Cranberry bog spiders. What if they rearrange the grocery store again?

Thinky Thoughts walks the line between memoir, storytelling, guided meditation, and self-help. It’s a little bit of explanation, a lot a bit of exploration, and a tiny bit of still not knowing what’s I’m supposed to be doing as an adult. It’s also being okay with not knowing. Thinky Thoughts won’t answer life’s great questions. But it will make you feel a little better knowing you’re not alone in asking them.

Thinky Thoughts blends memoir, storytelling, meditation, and self-help. It doesn’t promise answers, but offers comfort in the questions—reminding us it’s okay not to have life figured out, and reassuring us we’re not alone in wondering what it means to grow into adulthood.

A book that really helps you feel like you aren't alone and that's the sort of warm feeling I've been chasing for most of my life. I'm glad I finally found it

I have never felt more seen and heard as I have when reading this.
Gwenna just knows how to write and share in a way that connects to people and it's such a personal heart to heart kind of feeling and I can't think of anything more fitting.

This is the best-titled book I have come across in a long time. The content is uniquely presented as a combination of memoir and musings. I found each page increasingly relatable. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

First, I love the title. Second, I was in a semi book rut, but this took me right out of it. I'd say this is part memoir, part mom "essays" once the children aren't toddlers any longer., and reads very real.
I laughed, and I was touched. The author comes across as someone you'd love to have coffee with.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Coming into reading this book, I had no idea who Gweena was. I haven't read her first book, but I really did enjoy this one. This book is a lovely mix of short essays and poems, and she even shares a yummy sounding recipe. The essays that most resonated with me were ones on: grief, friendship, reading, being introverted, and tattoos... so clearly several resonated! If you like memoirs and essays that are poignant and vulnerable, I'd give this one a try. Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy.

I really enjoyed this collection of essays. The author blends humor, honesty, and vulnerability in a way that feels comforting and real. Many pieces resonated with me, especially those about identity and the pressure to have life figured out as an adult. Her writing feels like talking with a friend who isn’t afraid to admit she's still learning, and I appreciated how personal and relatable it all felt. The mix of essays, poems, and even a recipe kept things light and engaging. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
