VAULT: A large room or chamber used for storage of valuables, especially an underground one…
In the unrelenting heat of the Toronto summer, a fire at a land-fill site uncovers the remains of a local prostitute. But the post-mortem reveals disturbing details – the body has been preserved and is not who or what it seems.
DI Eleanor Raven is back on duty six months after barely surviving being kidnapped and tortured by a depraved serial killer. Work is her sanctuary but she’s carrying deep scars – mental as well as physical. Where do you go when the place you feel safest is also the place where you are most at risk?
As Eleanor battles her own demons, it looks as though a killer in the city is making a gruesome human collection. And Eleanor’s fight to save the last victim of the Collector becomes a battle to save herself.

A Note From the Publisher
Karen Long is a former teacher who took up full-time writing ten years ago. She has written numerous screenplays and is currently working on the third novel in ‘The Eleanor Raven’ series. Married to a film director she is fortunate to travel the world where she spends most of her time zealously flushing out and photographing reluctant wildlife. She lives in rural Shropshire with her three children, three dogs and a small but noisy collection of crows.

Advance Praise
Praise for the first novel in the Eleanor Raven series: Most fictional detectives these days have to have a ‘thing’ to set them apart from the others, and Raven’s is one of the most original for a long time. The plot moves in some unexpected directions, and builds to a genuinely exciting climax. The Safe Wordis an impressive, confident debut. Convincing characters and some nice twists make for a compelling, satisfying thriller, and I look forward to seeing what’s next for Eleanor Raven. Killing Time

A great second book in this new series, The Vault fixes all the issues that I found with the first volume (The Safe Word). The plot is tighter, the red herrings more credible and the rhythm steadier. Six months after almost dying at the hands of a psycho, Eleanor Raven is back at her job chasing a new bad guy: a scary, creepy collector of dead bodies preserved as part of his "family." Eleanor is also facing her own damaged psyche, and trying to mend her fledging relationship with her new partner. All the rest of the characters are just as likable as in their first outing and Monster the German Shepherd is back to his old tricks. I loved the humor and the dialogs. In short, I will be following this series and can't wait for the next one.

I haven't read any novels by Karen Long before, so thanks to Netgalley for introducing me to a new author.
The Vault continues the story of DI Raven from " The safe word" (another book I must just get now!!). DI Raven has spend some time recovering after her ordeal and this novels starts with her return to duty. She is the lucky winner of a murder on her first day back. Soon it seems as if a serial killer is on the loose, and DI Raven and her team must catch him. The book starts with a bang, and keeps the pace throughout the whole book. Totally worth a read, and highly recommended!!!!
