Description

Like the witch and Headless Horseman, it has always been you, Izzy, who’s controlled the strings of my heart. Very soon, you’ll know the lengths I’ll go to own yours.

Nothing much happens in a sleepy little town like mine. At least that is what I think until one night everything changes. People are disappearing at an alarming rate, but even more disturbing is how they end up on my table. I’m a coroner and no stranger to death, but even I wasn’t ready for the twisted game this killer plays.

It turns personal when I awake to a gift and a note that says, He who wins a thousand common hearts is therefore entitled to some renown, but he who keeps undisputed sway over the heart of a coquette is indeed a hero. I know the Washington Irving quote well. Sleepy Hollow is one of my very favorite stories, or it was until real life and fiction began to blur. Now, I don’t know what is real anymore.

The only person I can trust is Detective Crane, a long-time friend, and my high school crush. As sparks kindle between Branson and me, the bodies pile up faster, and the killer becomes bolder. I now fear that I’ve landed us both in the killer’s crosshairs. One thing is certain: something dark has been unleashed, and I’m the object of his affection.

Nothing could prepare me for the deranged desire that is ignited inside of me or the truth that turns my town into Headless Hollow.

Like the witch and Headless Horseman, it has always been you, Izzy, who’s controlled the strings of my heart. Very soon, you’ll know the lengths I’ll go to own yours.

Nothing much happens in a sleepy...

The story hooked me immediately and even the production / quality of the audio was well done—
All the effects to the narration was 🤌🏽

And that twist?! Crazy…
I don’t think anyone saw that coming. I wish this were longer to really flesh it out more, but I enjoyed it for what it was—
Audrey Obeyn & Nowhere Eternity (I’m not familiar with/ their work, but that name is badass) did an amazing job narrating this!!

Spooky, spicy and satisfying. Halloween is my favorite holiday so what better way to get in the mood than by reading a Headless Horseman story. This is a dark romance novella with plenty of spice and some murderous antics so if that's not your thing, you may want to skip this one. I really enjoyed this story and the audio narration was wonderful.

Narrated by Audrey Obeyn & Nowhere Eternity.

Review:

Thank you NetGalley and Brooklyn cross for sending me an ALC to review.

Headless Hollow by Brooklyn Cross was the perfect mix of eerie suspense and addictive romance. Izzy, a small-town coroner, suddenly finds herself in the middle of a chilling mystery when people start vanishing — only to be found later with disturbing signs of foul play. Things get even darker when she realizes the killer’s obsession may be pointed directly at her.

The creepy folklore vibes of the Headless Horseman added such a unique atmosphere, giving the story that perfect “spooky legend meets modern thriller” feel. I also really enjoyed Izzy’s dynamic with Detective Crane — their chemistry was the perfect tension-filled break from the horror unfolding around them.

The audiobook narration really elevated the story. The suspenseful scenes had me holding my breath, and the emotional moments hit even harder because of how well the voices brought Izzy and Crane to life.

At 4.5 stars, Headless Hollow is a haunting and romantic listen that’s perfect for fall nights — equal parts chilling, thrilling, and swoony.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Brooklyn Cross Books for the early release of this book!

Holy crap, this short book was SPICY 🥵🔥

Please make sure to read your trigger warnings before reading/listening because there are a lot of sensitive topics. Some of them were: kidnapping, murder, forced body modifications, branding, forced ingestion of bodily fluids, breeding kink, pain kinks, humiliation, and so much more.

It will be a long time before I can drink a pumpkin spice latte 🤢🤢

This book started off spicy from the very beginning and kept that pace throughout.
I liked Izzy's character and was yelling at her to let her kinky flag fly 😂
Branson's character wasn't bad for being a MMC
The twist at the end was fantastic and something I couldn't have called.
Either way, there was a HEA, so I'm happy

The narrators were amazing! I don't think I had heard about either Audrey Odeyn or Nowhere Eternity. There were a couple of male voices that were done were a little cheesy, but Branson's character seemed to fit perfectly.

Headless Hollow was just pure guilty pleasure heaven! 🔥 I couldn’t get enough of the dark, seductive vibe that oozes from every chapter. Izzy, the fierce coroner, is such a captivating mix of vulnerability and dangerous allure—she’s got that mysterious edge that just draws you in, and I found myself completely hooked on her every move. 💀💋 There’s something so intoxicating about her navigating the shadows of her sleepy town while dealing with a killer who’s playing twisted mind games.

And let’s talk about the chemistry between Izzy and Detective Crane—sizzling doesn’t even cover it. 🔥💏 The tension, the stolen glances, that slow burn that’s so deliciously intense—it’s like every touch, every whispered word, ignites a fire I didn’t know I needed. Honestly, I was blushing and clutching my Kindle more than once! The way their connection deepens amidst all the chaos just made the story even more addictive.

The killer’s game is so dark and twisted that it kept me on the edge of my seat, but honestly, I was also secretly hoping for more of that dangerous, forbidden attraction between Izzy and Crane. 😈💥 I mean, who wouldn’t be drawn to a story that’s equal parts chilling and sexy? There’s this undeniable allure that makes you question what’s real and what’s just a delicious fantasy. I have to admit—I must be a little messed up because I loved every second of it, even the creepy, sinister moments. It’s that kind of book that makes you feel a little guilty for how much you’re enjoying the darkness. 😅🔪

The gothic atmosphere, the ghostly whispers, the blurred lines between fantasy and reality—all of it combined into this irresistibly dark, steamy, and captivating read. I devoured it in one sitting, and honestly, I’m already craving a reread. It’s the perfect guilty pleasure—dangerous, alluring, and totally addictive. If you love a story that’s equal parts dark romance, suspense, and a dash of the supernatural, then Headless Hollow is an absolute must! 💖📚

Thank you to the author and narrators for bringing Headless Hollow to life!

The story was such a fun mix of dark, gothic vibes with a plot that kept me intrigued all the way through. I especially loved the twist at the end. It was one of those "holy shit" moments that always make me keep the novel in my mind even after I've finished it.

The duet narration was excellent! Both voices fit the tone of the book perfectly. The male narrator in particular was very sexy, and his growls added a lot of intensity to the spicy scenes. At times they felt just a little over the top, but overall the performance really enhanced the atmosphere and heat of the story.

This was my first time listening to these narrators, and I’ll definitely be checking out more of their work. A great combination of passion, suspense, and gothic romance that made for a memorable listen. Honestly, I'm an English teacher, and I may never be able to teach The Legend of Sleepy Hollow again without hearing this in my head.

This was a short, spicy, and very dark read. I will say before venturing into this book please check the TW as this book does have some topics that are not for everyone!

Izzy is a coroner who is consumed with a case that involves a gruesome m*rderer called the Headless Horseman alongside her long-time crush detective Branson. What they didn’t expect was for the Headless Horseman to be caught in his sick game. I absolutely loved this book and the characters. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The Headless Horseman was so deliciously dark and I loved that Izzy had a bit of a dark side herself.

The ending had me GASPING. I had an inkling through the book on who the masked man was but I could not have guessed the true ending at all. I really loved the twist in the epilogue as it was so unexpected and perfect for this very dark read.

Also, I want to add.. I love pumpkin spice lattes. I will continue to drink them because it takes a lot to turn me off of my favorite fall drink but WHY did you do PSL dirty like that?!

The audiobook was a duet narrated by Audrey Obeyn & Nowhere Eternity. Both of these narrators were absolutely perfect in my ears. They really knew how to express their characters and truly made me want to keep listening. The male actor really understood the assignment and had such a great growly voice for the Horseman. The audio production was also fantastic. I am not used to hearing sound effects while listening to audiobooks but this truly brought the book to a whole other level.

This was my first book by Brooklyn Cross and it will not be my last!

You will enjoy this book if you like the following:
- Headless Horseman retelling
- Dark romance
- Masked man
- St*lker
- BDSM
- Primal play
- Breeding

The audio production was absolutely wonderful - the dual narration, voice effects, music etc.. a 10/10 production. The content, however, although I understand its a novella and sometimes they do seem rushed, this seemed TOO packed at times. My jaw was on the FLOOR come the end though!

If you’re looking for a story that dares to blur the line between passion and peril, Brooklyn Cross is a ride you won’t forget. This book plunges straight into the shadows of obsession, desire, and the razor-thin boundary between fear and attraction. It’s raw, unapologetic, and crafted with a tension that keeps you hooked page after page.

The atmosphere is chilling, almost gothic, yet laced with an intensity that simmers under every scene. This isn’t your typical romance—it’s darker, twisted, and filled with psychological undertones that pull you into a headspace both dangerous and addictive. The writing style is sharp, vivid, and immersive, making you feel every beat of suspense and every flicker of forbidden longing.

⚠️ Note: This book comes with heavy trigger warnings. It explores extreme themes, both violent and erotic, so it’s not for sensitive readers. But for those who can handle the darkness, it delivers a hauntingly erotic narrative that will linger with you long after the last page.

If you want a story that is provocative, disturbing, and undeniably gripping—this is it. Just be prepared: once you enter its world, you may not come out the same.

I listened to the audiobook.

Well…. This was quite the ride and I liked it 😂
Perfect read for spooky season or if you’re like me, anytime of year. It’s a dark and spicy sleepy hollow reimagining that had me from start to finish. The characters, the twists, the story. I loved it all. And the ending…. Like whaaaaat?! 🤯 When you think you have things figured out with this one, guess again, lol. The author done amazing writing this. It was a good quick read and I can’t wait to discover more from her!

The sound effects for this audiobook were a great touch to the story, Audrey Obeyn and Nowhere Eternity did an incredible job narrating! Their voices suited the characters well and they really brought the story to life.

This audio? Fully immersive.
Duet narration, cinematic soundscape, and tension so thick you could scream through it. You’re not just listening you’re inside the scene. It’s like a car crash: you should look away, but you can’t. And honestly? You don’t want to.

Tropes:
💀 Serial killer obsession
🔥 Forced proximity
💋 Long-time crush
🩸 Morally gray protector
🌪️ Small town horror with a personal vendetta

I wanted spooky and hunty... but I got a little bit depraved and I liked it.

The Horseman doesn’t just haunt he escalates. Izzy wakes up with a severed head in her bed and things spiral fast. The barn scene? Unhinged perfection. Branson Crane? Broody, protective, and just unholy enough to make you question your morals.

Short, savage, and spooky. The ending wrecked me. The audio ruined me for other books. 10/10 would relive the chaos
