Description

Cedar Hill. An upper-middle class community with an abundance of unseemly stories. Enjoy a voyeuristic glance into what lies beneath the manicured lawns and picturesque families.

From one man’s attempt to cope after a devastating diagnosis to a neighborhood kidnapping that continues to mystify years later, On Cedar Hill proves things are not always as they appear. Each vignette stands on its own, yet intertwines to form a composite of Cedar Hill and the peculiar lives of those who have lived there over several decades.

Rich in character, place, and its examination of the impact of time, On Cedar Hill will appeal to any reader who has been curious about what may lie behind the mask of propriety of the well-respected, affluent family. A journey to Cedar Hill will quench not only a thirst for scandal, but touch us as we see the characters trying to save not just their image, but their families and lives.

A Note From the Publisher

Emil Kresl was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, before going off to college in Madison, WI. In both places there was lots of laughter, stories, and swimming. In Madison he learned how to write fiction and plays, and picked up a thing or two about philosophy.

To put food on the table, Emil helps people find happiness and fulfillment by contributing in a meaningful way to the world around them, which is not a bad way to collect a paycheck.

When he’s not doing all that other stuff like writing, being a dad, and consulting, he studies public policy and community planning, two things that hold the secret to making this world a better place (along with laughter, stories, and swimming).

This is the cutest strangest funniest book I've read in a while! Stay with it because once you get in to it, you realize the pure genius of the writing. Loved it.

Every now and then you find a great book by an author you've never heard of. This is a powerful story about an influential community with plenty of scandal and intrigue to keep you turning the pages and wondering what's going to be revealed next. You have health issues, divorce, drugs, kids with school issues, and much more.

I would like to thank NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book for my honest opinion.

At first I wasn't sure about the book, I hadn't quite read anything like it before. As I was reading it, I realized what was going on. Mr. Kresl wove each story that is very different in content , yet they all had the same common denominator, the suburb of Cedar Hill. It was brilliantly written. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to Emil Kresl's well-formed characters, readers find that life's grasses definitely aren't always greener on the other side of the fence.

As I read through the first two perspectives, I came to the heart-wrenching conclusion that I would only be reading short excerpts into the lives of the residents on Cedar Hill. I was disappointed because I have always found the stories where the characters' lives intertwine with each other fascinating - due to my unwavering conviction that those stories require a certain skill in writing that I could never expect to acquire and therefore I will always respect. As I continued reading, I almost cried for joy when Johnny Gingham briefly strolled into Kirstin's story. At that moment my faith in multi-perspective stories returned. The fictional lives on Cedar Hill are complex just like the lives of real people. The writing itself was beautiful. I loved this book. I cannot wait until this book and I meet again so I can look for more overlaps in lives that I may have missed the first time. This is a book that even knowing the ending will not ruin the experience of the book.
