Very nice read for older children who may have an interest in politics. It is a good way for them to learn words that may be new to them, as well as how our governments works. AOC is very passionate about the people she represents and this was a good showcase of that.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, has inspired many in her role political role. Written in an easy-to-read style with supporting pictures, this book provides insight into the rise of AOC in the word of politics, including what inspired her along the way. As a teacher, I would put this in my classroom library as a choice book, steering away from any political discussions about it. If you are looking to learn more about who is making decisions for America, this is a great book to start.

This is a perfect book to teach children as well as give a glimpse to others who may not know about her. This provided insight and understanding to her origins and the WHY behind her mission and success. Just scratching the surface, her background and the telling of her story can be influential in itself. I enjoyed this format.

Several years ago, I was speaking to my mother about politics. I can’t recall the exact conversation, but at some point we landed on the subject of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. At this time, my mom wasn’t exactly very political, but she had various minimally thought out opinions and one of those was that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was bad. When I asked her why, the response I received was one without reason—she didn’t know why she disliked AOC. Her entire opinion of this woman was based solely on a feeling that she’d had, based on some such or other that she’d seen somewhere but couldn’t name. And I think this is part of the problem with how politicians are spoken about today—we don’t spend nearly enough time actually talking about the legislation that they’re fighting for. People, as a whole, are so deeply uninformed about their representatives and base their entire opinion about them on how those representatives make them feel and not on what those representatives are actually doing.

I genuinely believe books like this one, detailing out facts about the lives of our politicians are important. It’s a good starter introduction for middlegrade kids—and maybe even adults, let’s be real—something easily digestible for them to begin learning about the people who make decisions that massively affect our country. Given how vilified Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been, unfairly in many ways, I think it’s exceedingly important to humanize some of these people, to present information about them that isn’t abject lies. Ultimately, this is not the sort of book you can just start with and not continue. It’s important to pair this with the expectation that one is going to learn more about these people, especially if that person is representing them. Education, in so many ways, is the foundation for developing an understanding of how your country functions and is the only thing that will improve the politics of the United States.

Honestly, I don’t know exactly how I feel about this as a book series; it’s called “Both Sides of the Aisle,” which ultimately makes me nervous at points because I can’t help thinking—what if this were written about someone like Ted Cruz? Or even Chuck Schumer? It’s still important, I think. But I would hope that the books would also go into how those people fund their campaigns—because both Ted and Chuck are very bought out by corporate interests, very much unlike Alexandria.

It’s definitely worth exploring. But yeah, as I said, one can’t just read this book and stop there. That education has to continue.

A real good book for kids. Part of a series of books that profile people in politics. This book includes real good/clear photos, & sticks to the facts. It's all presented in words/prose that children can easily follow & understand, & probably relate to. There's a good glossary at the end to explain any words that kids may need to learn about. It's an easy read & a good, clear documentation of her career.
I received an e copy of the book for review purposes, from the Rosen Publishing Group/Enslow Publishing via NetGalley. This my own fair/honest review.
