An interesting book, that kept my interest throughout. I don't usually like books from the 1800s, but I did like this one. It is set in Australia, and the different ethnic groups, and their misconceptions about each other are similar to the stories I've heard about here in the U.S. back in those days. The story centers around Fanny, who is a young girl working as a waitress at a local hotel. Two brothers, Jim and Jack, become friends with here, and Jack becomes her favorite sparring buddy. You can see the sparks between them. There is a lot going on in this book, including a rape, but it is well worth the read. I wish a bit more would have been done at the end, where things are wrapped up a little quickly, but other than that I highly recommend this story and author.

This is a wonderful historical novel, I love books that give us a look at discriminated or are in a minority. This is a wonderful read and I have recommended it to everyone. I have never read a book set in this time and I was so glad to read it.
