'Captain Perseverance: How I Became a Superhero' by Brod Bagert with illustrations by Cam Aitkenhead will teach you everything you need to be a superhero. I really liked this book.
We learn that this superhero started out just like us. He struggled with reading and math and science and music. He conquered all those things and more. He tells us his secret, but I won't spoil what it is, although you can gather what it is from his name.
This book was lots of fun to read and had a really positive message. I loved the illustrations, full of color and action. I loved the text with a rhyming meter that is perfect. I've read a lot of non-flowing rhyming kids books, so this one gets extra marks for actually succeeding. The message is perfect. You can do just about anything you want as long as you persevere. It's not easy. It's often not fun. But it's an important lesson.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Juliahouse Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Usually I think books with a strong message are cheesy and don’t accomplish what they set out to do as a result. Captain Perseverance is an exception! It had delightful rhymes and bright pictures. I would definitely read it during story time.

I am so happy that the publisher sent a print galley when the digital didn’t work, or I might have missed out on this fun new take on Superheroes. We constantly try to give the same message to kids over and over, and over again. But finding new ways, or angles often grabs someone better than the tried and true standard. Instead of saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again” you can say, I persevered and I conquered. Yes, I spun in the middle, and it may have taken me time to learn, but in the end I DID IT!
Why I like this book: vocabulary building. I have yet to see Perseverance used in a picture book. Two, the fun and colorful illustrations. I personally like the mad scientist. Finally the rhyming structure. Some can not successfully pull off a rhyming structure, but this story preserved and came out with flying colors.
