I found the book wasn’t a long read, but a concise and orderly guide to helping your child. I think the best quote in the book is: “Parents have a twenty-four-hour job that pretty much lasts a lifetime; it is an exhausting and, at times, thankless job. Nonetheless, your reward is seeing your child become the best he or she can be.” by Don S and TeamGolfwell

This is a great book both for parents and professionals; it explores the reasons and basis for a young person's behaviour, followed by very clear action plans as to how to deal with said behaviour. The chapters are laid out very clearly, covering a whole range of useful topics: the signs of concerning behaviour; action plans; when you should take action; and when it becomes a mental health need. This is an invaluable resource and so clearly written that you couldn't fail to get some benefit from it. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to have a free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.

I think every parent wonders if their child is "normal". This book gives a good assessment of normal and not so normal behaviors that children exhibit in all stages. The author is an experienced licensed social worker. She explains very clearly what steps you, as a parent, can take if you are concerned about certain behaviors in your child. She even explains what you can do to advocate for your child in school. I found the section on 504 plans and IEPs very informative.

Super comprehensive parenting guide, broken down into developmental stages and clearly defined steps of action integrating all resources at hand. My cultural background combined with my kids' shyness has always made me worry whether I'm parenting authoritative-ly or authoritarian-ly, and I found Dr. Rumaldo's book tremendously reassuring on all counts. Rather than merely prescribing good communication, she offers concrete advice on how to facilitate an open line of communication, for example. This book offers a spectrum of normal to extreme behaviors not just of kids, but of parents as well. The language is succinct and communicated in laymen's terms.

A great resource for parents. This book shows you the warning signs that your child could be experiencing serious problems. Dr. Rumaldo provides material for parents to assess their parenting style and how it may affect a child.
This book walks you through an action plan that can be implemented in the home and school. It tells you when to get help and what type of help could possibly be needed. Interventions such as the 504 and the IEP are explained so that the layman can easily understand what is required and how to initiate the process.
Each chapter ends with a checklist that compiles the relevant part of the chapter into an easily accessible format.

Thanks to author/publisher for giving me an opportunity to read this book.

This book is a must read for all parents. The author has done good job of making parents understand that there is no one ideal parent that we can all look up to and follow them blindly. The author lists out the various parenting styles and parents can identify themselves in one of those or may be more than one. Also the various stages of grief when one identifies an issue is pragmatic.

The part where the author discusses the decision of getting help for a kid, the decision that has to be made by the parent weighing various pros and cons was very powerful. The author puts the parents in ease in such a situation.

What i took away from the book is to play by the ear and try to keep the communication open with the kids as long as possible.

The author, Angie Rumaldo ,PhD., is and Advanced Practice Nurse and a licensed Clinical Pyschologist with over fifteen years of experience in the mental health field.
Her book lays our signs and symptoms that could be problematic from preschool age and up hincluding adults who act younger).
If then lays out a detailed action plan with steps, including looking at yourself and your parenting style.
It provides information on what to expect and how to get a 504 or IEP, dealing with the school system and what to expect from a mental health therapist.
If you’re expecting that your child’s behavior is not average, this is a great book to help you get started on the right path.
Thanks to Net Gallery and True Pursuit for an opportunity to read this book before publishing to offer my unbiased and honest review.

I loved the layout of the book and it is very easy to dip into to the relevant section for you. I also really liked the message that you the parent are the expert when it comes to your child therefore if you feel that something isn't quite right, go with your gut instinct to pursue to get to the bottom of it.

A great book that I will refer to as my two children grow up.

I not only recommend this book for parents, but anyone that works with children and teens too. Grandparents and other relatives could benefit from this book as well -- in fact the child benefits as it helps the adults in their life help them through their journey. This is a great guide throughout the stages of development giving simple steps that are well defined helping the adult in the child's life walk them through understanding. The resources are there in an effort to help them guide and take action or notice any problems to help them feel better. The steps are clear showing why the child or teen might be acting a certain way. This will help in an effort to help clear up what is bothering them. The writer is a professional and has worked through these issues before knowing what needs done and it is clear through her writing.
