Description

An Unexpected Journey from Islam to Christianity In Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus, Nabeel Qureshi describes his dramatic journey from Islam to Christianity, complete with friendships, investigations, and supernatural dreams along the way. Providing an intimate window into a loving Muslim home, Qureshi shares how he developed a passion for Islam before discovering, almost against his will, evidence that Jesus rose from the dead and claimed to be God. Unable to deny the arguments but not wanting to deny his family, Qureshi's inner turmoil will challenge Christians and Muslims alike. Engaging and thought-provoking, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus tells a powerful story of the clash between Islam and Christianity in one man's heart---and of the peace he eventually found in Jesus. 'I have seldom seen such genuine intellect combined with passion to match ... truly a 'must-read' book.' --Ravi Zacharias

This was an excellent read that provided great insight into a seeker's journey. The results of Nabeel's search for the authenticity of Islam and the Prophet were intriguing. I really loved learning about Islam from a devout follower and the family issues that arose because of Nabeel's decision to follow Jesus. Thank you for sharing your story!

I have little influence over which books that I review most of the time. I like it like that, because it exposes me to a broader range of voices than I would normally pick for myself. But this time, I had heard of this book before and then went to find it, so my expectations for it were unusually high in comparison to other books I've reviewed. This book met and exceeded my expectations. It's very readable and gripping, easy-to-understand, interesting and informative, challenging and encouraging. Before I get into the review, hear this: get it.

At its heart this is Nabeel Qureshi's life story, from Muslim upbringing to the challenge of living on the outskirts of two conflicting cultures, to meeting Christians, investigating the evidence behind the Bible and its claims about Jesus, doing the same to the Quran and Muhammad, and ultimately making a decision in the knowledge of how it would impact his relationship with his loving Muslim family and community.

This book sets out to do three things, and I think it does them exceptionally well:

1. Inform non-Muslims about the truth of how Muslims live and think 2. Present an evidence-based case that proves beyond reasonable doubt that Jesus is God, died on the cross and rose again, that the Bible is the Word of God, that the Quran has been changed and is not reliable as an authority on any level, and that Muhammad was not who Muslims often believe and claim that he was (almost overwhelmingly using respected Islamic texts)
3. Communicate the real struggle that Muslims go through even once they've become intellectually convinced that Christianity is true.
The book is written across 53 chapters, all of which are very short so it's perfect for reading in short bursts. These are separated into ten parts, each of which closes by sending you to dig into the evidence yourself by reading recommended books.

Honestly, this book is the best book I've read in a very long time. I can't recommend it enough. If you're a Christian I would put this on your 'must read' list; as a faith group we generally don't understand Muslims, and this book will help with that and will bolster your faith. I'd also thoroughly recommend it to Muslims - it is written in a respectful manner and I believe reflects fairly on the loving, respectful environment Nabeel grew up in.

What I love about this book, is that the author is a scholar. I have read a few other books where ex Muslims have converted to Christianity. Theirs differed in that they converted soleley by faith. This author, however, is converted by faith AND by research. Love this book! This book has been bought by a greater Manchester library.

This is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I devoured this book. It was so exciting. This story is very engaging for several reasons. I loved how we read up his upbringing as a devout Muslim. He gives insights of the Islamic world. It is a good set up. For me I knew some about Islam but not much. He also makes himself very transparent for struggling to accept Christ. He was wrestling with himself. I also like how his friend who was helping him was very patient with him as he was asking the questions. I am so glad that I read this book. The emotion he felt leaving Islam. This is a fascinating insider look at Islam and Christianity and very profound.

Wonderful. A scholarly look at Islam and Christianity that stimulated my intellect. I had to stop several times to process what I was reading. A raw, emotional journey from one faith to another, backed up with solid reasoning. Lots of useful intellectual and spiritual arguments, and a clear Gospel message. I like biographies, but this was more than a biography alone. Thank you for making it available on NetGalley.

I have held on writing this for a long time because I don't really know how to describe my feelings about this book. I want to say so much more, but perhaps that is for a second reading. For now, I need to write something before I have forgotten everything -- so accept this meager token of my reading of what I believe to be a very important book. I think there is a lot we as readers can learn from conversion stories -- no matter what a reader's personal belief system is. And that Christians, Muslims, those of other faiths or even no faith can learn from the stories of others. I wanted my review to reflect that, but the words are simply not coming.

I loved the way it was written -- a mixture of narrative and Christian apologetic. It feels very conversational, as though Nabeel is sitting in the room telling his readers his story. I loved the descriptions of his friendships and the way he talked about his passion for knowing God -- both as a Muslim and now as a Christian. It is well-written and has a very honest feel about it. I highly recommend it to people who are curious about Christianity and Islam, or even monotheistic faith in general.

After reading a book this good and so profound, I wonder how this book isn't being used in every church and spoken about from every pulpit, read in every Bible group. So many people are scared of Islam because of ISIS, the Taliban, etc. I've had several Muslim friends, beautiful, wonderful people, who I've never known how to reach with a message of Truth. With this I can finally have material to debate intelligently and compassionately with them.

Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi is a game-changing book in the world of Christian Apologetics. Dr. Qureshi's candid personal story is brilliantly written in such a way that the reader learns not only about the author's spiritual journey, but is also provided with an in-depth analysis of Islam and Christianity. It is clear that care, thought, consideration, and truth went into the creation of this book and that makes me love it all the more. Dr. Qureshi gives his readers insights into a world they may not have ever been exposed to before. I can say that, for me personally, reading this book strengthened my resolve to learn more about the depths of my faith in Jesus Christ. It also opened my eyes to what many converts to Christianity risk when they make their choice to follow Jesus. I truly believe that after reading this book I am a better Christian. Dr. Qureshi has an incredible skill for writing and a heart full of compassion for mankind. I look forward to all the great things that I know will come from him in the future.

Highly recommended story and theology. I enjoyed this in the changing landscape of politics, migration, and faith.

I just can't do this book justice in a simple review. I was not raised Muslim, so I had no concept of the culture or way of thinking of a follower of Islam. The author was raised in Western Islam, but does touch on the thought process of Eastern Islam as well.

This book was a real eye opener for me. The author is not anti-Islam, he was raised as a Muslim and you see how as a small child he was raised in a family that loved Islam and each other. His faith was strong and he wanted to be a good ambassador for Islam.

Throughout the course of his discussing his religion, he came across some Christians who had questions the author couldn't answer about his own religion. By doing some research, he realized that everything he believed was just parroted from others. He didn't read the sources of his belief structure and when he did, he realized it wasn't as solid as he thought it was. He never says anything bad about Islam, he just points out discrepancies in it that most Muslims tend to ignore. He tried to ignore them, but couldn't.

This is a very personal journey. The author was very brave and open to share it with the world. I didn't know much about the Muslim POV before this book. Reading it has helped me to understand the Muslim culture a little bit more. There is always more to learn, but this book was a good start.

I highly recommend this book. It's a good look into Muslim culture, through the eyes of a man who was a devout Muslim and converted to Christianity. It wasn't an easy choice for him to make. Becoming a Christian was basically spitting on his family and their honor as Muslims. Throughout the entire book, you can feel the love and affection all of the family members have for one another. For him to do what he did, was practically death in his culture. Yet he did it anyway. Food for thought.

Five stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Zondervan Academic for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

Enjoyed how Qureshi laid out this thinking. People should read this as the world changes and migration crosses into all of our communities and lives.
