Description

A highly sensitive rabbit learns lessons of kindness and self-care from other desert animals.

Aurora is a highly sensitive rabbit. She worries about the natural world and the other animals around her. When a flash flood destroys her family’s burrow, Aurora must accept her sensitive nature and learn how to thrive by using breathing techniques, taking time alone, and setting boundaries. Eventually, she comes to understand that she can connect with others and enjoy the beauty of the world while embracing who she is.

Based on Dr. Judith Orloff’s teachings about thriving as an empath, this picture book offers easy-to-learn coping and communication skills through a beautifully written and illustrated story. It also includes a nonfiction section at the back that teaches about plants and animals native to the Sonoran Desert.

This book was a beautiful way to help young children accept their gift of being highly sensitive. Sometimes it feels like the rest of the world doesn't understand these emotions and it really brings them to life. Very well written ❤️

Aurora often feels like an outcast in her family because she's very sensitive, with her own emotions and taking on the emotions of others. When her family's desert home is destroyed by a flash flood, Aurora feels the loss deeply -- so deeply that she can't help her mother and siblings find a new space to rebuild. With the wisdom of some new friends along the way, she realizes that although she's incredibly sensitive, there *are* coping skills (like setting boundaries, alone time, etc.) that can help her not feel so overwhelmed.

A beautifully illustrated, sweet book for us sensitive souls.

Beautiful book! This book is great whether you have a highly sensitive or empathic child or not.
After a tragic weather event, Aurora meets some neighbors that were affected too.Aurora learns from some of them what they do when things become too much. She realizes in the end her mother understands too.
It’s great at the end that all of the animals and plants that were featured in the story are described in detail.

Thanks to Netgally and the publisher for the arc.

Beautifully written, beautiful illustrations and loved the key at the end with details of all the desert animals/plants that appear throughout the story. I read to my 5 year old son for bed and he loved Aurora very much.

I may even recommend this book to those who have lost their home due to the recent fires. It teaches you about coping skills to deal with the loss, how to set boundaries, and that support is there even if in different ways. Much love!

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit is a charming children's picture book about a young rabbit with a kinder and gentler approach to the surrounding world. the young rabbit stares up at the stars and the sky and ponders deeply about the universe. The rabbit appreciates the beauty of the natural environment. when interacting with other animals, such as the little rabbit's siblings, the rabbit forms greater connections to the dialogue and reactions of those around her. However, the rabbit's siblings begin to notice that Aurora is different. The other rabbits complain to their mother about how Aurora is spending too much time in deep and contemplative thought. Aurora eventually distances herself and befriends other animals who guide her along her own personal journey of self-discovery. Eventually, Aurora learns to accept herself exactly as she is and in turn learns to rebuild friendships with those who she became alienated from in her pursuit of deeper connections with the world around her.

Young readers will love The Highly Sensitive Rabbit because it teaches lessons such as believing in yourself even when those around us complain and indicate otherwise through their words and actions.

Better to be sensitive than to miss all of the sweet and heart-tugging interactions between the animal characters in this imaginative story. Aurora feels things that most of her family and friends don’t seem to - the coyote howling at the winter moon, the fear of other small creatures who might be caught in the rain d the dark, and sometimes it’s all just too overwhelming to bear. By having conversations about how she feels with some of the other acquaintances that she finds as she wanders away from her family after they have been displaced by a huge, scary storm, she discovers ways to cope with her big feelings and also that she is t the sole animal who has these deeper experiences.
A lovely, memorable tale with lessons of kindness, empathy, and thoughtfulness. Recommended for reading aloud or for older readers to discover themselves.

This was the sweetest book! The rabbit is very sensitive and as someone who is also very sensitive raising a highly sensitive child, I could relate. I loved that each animal provided a calming technique for the rabbit and the illustrations were absolutely beautiful. My children and I really enjoyed reading this book at bedtime and it opened a dialogue about emotions for all of us.

"The Highly Sensitive Rabbit" is a beautifully written and illustrated book that delivers an important message about sensitivity and self-acceptance. I loved how it wove practical techniques for overcoming challenges into the story, reinforcing that it’s okay to be sensitive and that our differences can be strengths.

The graphics were stunning, bringing the Sonoran Desert to life, and I especially appreciated the inclusion of facts about the animals and plants throughout the book. It added an educational layer that makes this a great read for both children and adults.

While some may find it more instructional in its approach, I think the beauty of the book lies in its ability to spark self-reflection and meaningful conversations. Whether read by a child with their parent or even used in a professional setting with children, the story creates space for important discussions about emotions, empathy, and resilience.

This is definitely a book I’d buy for my nieces and nephews—it’s a reminder that it’s okay not to be okay, and that sensitivity can be a gift rather than a weakness.

I used to be a highly sensitive child, and this book would have been perfect for me. Kids grow up with a natural sensitivity that the world teaches them to ignore as the world is cruel. I fell in love immediately with Aurora, who has never left that sensitivity behind no matter what the world brings her. She's taught by the parts of the world that she so adores how to keep what makes her her, and it doesn't crush her like the rest of the world would.

The fact that children are able to keep that sensitivity and love and empathy that they are naturally instilled with while setting boundaries and learning that people can accept them for how they are is such a heartwarming message and one I would gladly revisit over and over again.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the eARC for this book!

What a lovely book! The illustrations are beautiful — gorgeous colors and engaging visuals that bring the story to life. I also loved the names of the bunnies, so cute!

This is the perfect book for sensitive, empathetic souls. It helps children put words to their feelings and validates their experiences. While I imagine this book is especially meaningfully for empaths, it's an important message for any child to foster understanding of their peers and different emotional responses.

I liked how The Highly Sensitive Rabbit begins by showing us what it's like to be highly sensitive in various situations and then offers tools for managing those feelings. It encourages self-acceptance and emotional awareness in a very digestible way for children. And I thought the key at the end detailing the desert animals and plants that appear throughout the story was a great educational addition.

Thank you to NetGalley and the authors for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review!

A truly moving story, The Highly Sensitive Rabbit offers valuable insights into the experiences of highly sensitive children. This book serves as a compassionate companion for navigating the unique joys and challenges of a sensitive heart.

Aurora's journey resonates deeply with anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by external stimuli or the emotions of others. The story authentically portrays the delicate balance between the rich inner world of a sensitive person and the vulnerability and the loneliness that can accompany it. Aurora’s experience after the flash flood attempts to highlight the essential role of community in healing and growth. We see how empathy and understanding can help transform sensitivity from a potential source of struggle into a wellspring of empathy and connection.

Reading The Highly Sensitive Rabbit was a deeply enriching experience. This book offers gentle guidance and affirms the value of sensitivity. It’s a book I wholeheartedly recommend to children, parents, and and anyone else seeking to understand and celebrate the gifts of a sensitive nature.

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit is a children's book about hypersensitivity, exploring the Sonoran desert and the animals and plants that inhabit it through the eyes of an emotional and empathetic young rabbit. Aurora learns to manage her emotions, one animal at a time, integrating advice for her everyday life, whether it's breathing, talking or setting boundaries. She accepts herself as she is, she doesn't need to change to fit in, and that's just fine.
Katy Tanis' drawings are gentle and the settings quite contemplative. The cover illustration and the last one with desert cottontail's mama bunny are my favorites, and really gives off something.
Finally, at the end, a reminder of the different species is presented, bringing this album to an intelligent conclusion.
A small ‘toolbox’ list with advice from the animals could also have been added to finish on a high note.

In the Sonoran Desert lives a little cottontail named Aurora. Aurora spent most of her time alone, preferring it to the noise and commotion caused by her siblings. When tragedy strikes her home, Aurora worries for the other animals and the land around her. As she speaks with other desert creatures, she learns to embrace her sensitivity and how to help manage when her emotions become too tough.
This story was really sweet, and the message was one that I think a lot of people (and children) would feel seen by. This book would be a really great read-aloud tool to talk about social emotional learning and strategies for big emotion with elementary students. The illustrations were nicely done and would be interesting for a child to flip through. I like how the author included real animals as the creatures Aurora interacts with in the story, and that the back of the book has a space giving information about those animals.

I really wanted to read this story because I have a very sensitive child in my home and he is the only boy out of his siblings. I cuddled with him and had mommy and me time with him and read him this book. He loved it and had so many questions and ideas on how to help with his feelings. Yesterday I overheard him tell his sister to stop teasing him because it hurts his feelings and she apologized! I was so happy that instead of crying that she was picking on him, he stood up for himself. I will definitely buy a copy of this book when its published so that he can have his own copy and read it whenever he is feeling sensitive. I wanted him to see that other people (in this case a bunny) sometimes are sensitive and that it's fine and there are ways to manage our feelings when we don't know what to do with them. Thank you for writing this amazing book and for writing a book for the empath and sensitive children. Thank you to Netgalley for the Advanced e-read of this book!

4 stars

This is an illustrated book addressed to younger readers. Meaning and conclusions of the story, I feel it's not something that 'older' generations talked about while growing up. It's amazing that we can talk about sensibility and being 'too much' or 'too little' with children from the very young age and teach them how to cope with it and that's normal.
I'm also very fond of the graphics of the book which make the storyline more beautiful.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy in exchage for an honest opinion! <3

I loved how this adorable picture book portrayed someone who was sensitive. Instead of focusing on herself, Aurora the cottontail rabbit worries about others too. This allows her to have empathy and understand how others feel, leading to many friendships.
Being sensitive is so often portrayed negatively but it's just a different personality. Aurora is a wonderful, likeable character. There is also information about other animals and plants in the desert where Aurora lives.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Being a highly sensitive person myself, I was very curious about this children’s book.
I didn’t find out until 8 was thirty-five, and it was such an eye opener. Yet I wished I had known a lot sooner.
That’s why I appreciate such books being read to children, as it shows at a young age.

I enjoyed the story, the illustrations are wonderful too.
It explains how the rabbit feels, and what makes it different from its family.
Yet other animals give him tips about how they cope with stressful events.
Making the rabbit more secure and adapt to the situations.

It’s comprehensive to the little ones, a read to recommend.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely LOVE this story. I will always pre-read a story before reading it to my kids or the students that come see me in the library and this is one I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy for our bookshelf at home and at the school library!
This is a story about a rabbit who lives in the desert with her family of rabbits, Aurora has been labeled as being too sensitive by her brothers and sisters. After her home was washed away in a flash flood, she spends time talking with other animals and how she is called sensitive. The other animals she talks to throughout the story offer her advice on how to cope with being labeled by her family and communicate her feelings to her family.
This is a great story that checks many boxes for my school library as well as we are adding more social emotional learning books into our collection.
Added bonus were the pages in the back with information on the different animals and plants seen throughout the story.
Absolutely loved this!

I loved this book about a bunny in the Sonoran dessert who feels easily overwhelmed by her big feelings. She has a big heart and cares about others so deeply but doesn’t know how to calm herself. She meets other friends who live in the Sonoran dessert that help her with different strategies that help her feel centered again. The illustration is beautifully done and pulls you through the story dreamily. This is a perfect read for anyone but especially for kids that do have bigger feelings than others. A must buy.

I am this rabbit. This rabbit is me. I understand what this rabbit is saying, and I know that kids will too. It's okay to be a highly sensitive rabbit, and just like the rabbit, you need to learn how to best work through those sensitivities.

I loved this book. My son is highly sensitive and related to the rabbit in this story. He loved the other characters tell the rabbit it’s okay to feel the way she does and to be sensitive. This book helped my son see it’s not a bad thing to be sensitive and helped him understand what a boundary is. I will absolutely buy this book!

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

This book was so beautiful and heartwarming, especially for someone who’s also just as sensitive as Aurora is, this would be perfect for younger children who are navigating the world and its challenges. Staying true to yourself but also learning how to speak up for yourself, too. The artwork in this book is stunning, I honestly wish it was coming out sooner than October because I’m itching at the bits to buy a physical copy for myself, and my niece and nephews.

Do yourself a favor and purchase this when it comes out!

The illustrations are pretty. I love the inclusion of descriptions of desert animals in the back. I also really liked some of the text, especially where it covers the fact that sometimes Rabbit wants to play with friends and sometimes she wants to be alone, and either thing is ok.

As a sensitive child myself, I would've found the beginning/middle of the book a bit stressful, with the loss of their home. Maybe there's a better way to deal with that.

Thank you for the ARC. I will purchase for my library.

Oh Aurora! You beautiful, intelligent, special little rabbit.

This was a wonderful read. I think the undertones of the book (as in the sensitivities of Aurora) were done with a great amount of nuance for kids and is a very important message to young children, about acceptance, love, and boundaries.

The illustrations were STUNNING! Would love to just have a little print of Aurora in my own bedroom! Five stars.

Personally, I found the book to be very accessible and a wonderful way to help kids understand overstimulation and provide helpful tips in dealing with those feelings. I would certainly recommend this for school settings especially.

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit is a heart warming story of a rabbit who discovers other friends who struggle with different scenarios that upset them. Each friend offers words of advice to Rabbit to help her work through her struggles. My daughter really enjoyed this story and absolutely adored the beautiful illustrations. Her ending comment was “wow! rabbit’s friends had a lot of good ideas. I’m sensitive like rabbit too.”
We loving finding a book we can relate to!

Thank you so much to Sounds True Publishing and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

Aurora is a sensitive rabbit, she doesn’t fit in with her siblings and is more aware of what surrounds her, caring how everyone feels around her. One day a flash flood destroys their home and she becomes sad, she finds new friends within her desert who help her find ways to feel better.

This was really sweet, I loved the story that was told about the beautiful desert rabbit and her high sensitivity, she was so sweet and cared about other animals and beings above herself, it was so lovely. The illustrations were just gorgeous showing what everything in her desert looked like, what all the other animals looked like, I also loved that she stood out amomstgt her siblings but that she matched her mama it was so beautiful to see.

The back of the book is also really sweet as it expands on what we saw within the story about the animals we met on Aurora journey to the plants that surrounded her I loved that the extra pieces were added to help learn more. A very wonderfully created story, a great for any reader, but really important for those that are also sensitive beings as it gives great advice throughout on how to cope with being sensitive and how to stand up for yourself even if it is very difficult.

This made my old autistic self nearly start bawling (complimentary).

There's a sensitive rabbit in the desert who struggles with being overstimulated and not being like their siblings, but they also have a unique and wonderful perspective on things. Through speaking to all manner of desert flora and fauna they collect good advice to help them cope and find peace.

The art is absolutely gorgeous!

The writing is wonderful and incredibly helpful and meaningful.

The information about the plants and animals is a brilliant touch.

I genuinely wish I had a book like this when I was a kid!

Absolutely love it!

Thank you to Sounds True Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit is a beautifully written and illustrated story about a little cottontail named Aurora, who feels deeply and sees beauty in every detail of the desert around her. When her family’s home is destroyed by a flood, Aurora sets off on a journey that gently teaches children how sensitivity can be a strength — not a weakness.

The desert setting is stunning, and I especially loved how each animal she meets reflects different ways to practice self-care and emotional awareness.

As someone who works with stories for children, I appreciated how the book normalizes quiet time, introspection, and emotional intelligence without being overly didactic.

This book would be wonderful for sensitive children, their parents, or even professionals who work with kids, especially therapists or educators. It’s a gentle resource with beautiful art and a warm, empowering message.

Recommended for ages 4–8, and for anyone who's ever been told they’re “too sensitive.”

I adore this book, the Highly Sensitive Rabbit by Judith Orloff is a charming children’s book that follows Aurora, a sensitive cottontail rabbit, on her journey of self-acceptance in the Sonoran Desert. As someone who lives in the Sonoran Desert I loved the references to animals, plants and weather that can be seen in our area. The back included descriptions of desert animals and plants.
Through encounters with animals like a spiny lizard and cactus wren, Aurora learns to embrace her empathy and sensitivity through communication, spending time alone and setting boundaries. The vibrant illustrations and gentle storytelling make it engaging for young readers. Ideal for highly sensitive children, their parents or anyone who works with children, it offers valuable insights into self-care and emotional resilience. I highly recommend this book to anyone who values self-care. I will be adding this book to my SPED classroom. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The story is of a small rabbit who has a burden of caring for everyone in her sphere. After a storm wreaks havoc on her desert environment, she speaks with other to ease her burden.
The illustrations by Katy Tanis are simple, perfect in tone and color, and show much care for the fauna.
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school, waiting room, or your local public library.

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit gives us a look at the beauty yet difficulty that comes with being an empath. As little Rabbit's burrow is destroyed, she goes through the waves of grief and feeling the feelings of her community. She, herself, learns to work with her emotions as do her loved ones. A great tool for teaching kids about empathy and care.

This book is perfect as a read aloud for morning meeting. Many students will identity with the sensitive rabbit who gets overstimulated easily and feels things intensely. I loved that author teaches about setting boundaries and shared other strategies through the desert animals that could help Aurora.

This is truly a wonderful book. The story is beautiful and heartwarming and the artwork is stunning which adds to the depth and feeling of the story. I see myself as a child in this sensitive little rabbit and being a rabbit lover only made the story more endearing and special. This book thoughtfully conveys that it's okay to be sensitive and it shows ways how a child and even adults can respond to others in their sensitivity.

The end of the book also includes drawings with descriptions of the desert animals appearing throughout the back so children have an opportunity to learn more about these animals.

“Being sensitive did often make it harder being in the world. But it helped her see its wild and glorious beauty too.”

Best children’s book I’ve read in a while!!!! My younger self would’ve felt so seen and understood if she’d read this story.

I loved the way this book taught highly sensitive kids how to feel better and deal with their sensitivity, the boundaries part was probably my favorite! Children aren’t taught how to set boundaries enough, despite their importance. Highly recommend this book, especially for sensitive/highly sensitive kids🤍

And of course I need to mention the beautiful illustrations, they made the book so much better with how adorable they were!

I love this story! As an introvert, I wish someone had told me this story when I was little. We live in an extroverted world. I would recommend this story to anyone who has an introverted, sensitive child in their life. The pictures are beautiful with wonderful information about the desert creatures.

This sweet and beautiful picture book follows a cotttontail named Aurora who is an empath. She feels the emotions and situations of other animals around her and this makes her different from her other siblings. One day when a flash flood ereak havoc in the desert and lay ruins to her burrow, she meets other animals who teach her what she can do to positively react to overwhelming situations.

Here the author has explored the art of expressing one's own thoughts, breathing techniques, lending a listening ear, taking time for yourself, setting boundaries and so on. These insightful techniques could be immensely helpful to start a conversation with your young ones about learning to cultivate good habits and regulating their emotions.

The highly sensitive rabbit is a celebration of kindness, empathy and compassion towards everyone and to your own self. With beautifully captivating illustrations, this story will feel like magic and surprises. I'd definitely recommend this.

'The Highly Sensitive Rabbit' follows Aurora, a desert bunny who feels the emotions of others and her environment deeply. When her home is destroyed by her flood, she relies on the animals around her to help her through it.

This book is not only about how to deal with the world around you, but gives you useful techniques. It is a celebration of the wildlife found around the author, exploring different species of animals and plants as well. It is beautifully illustrated and serves as a good introduction of techniques to help when your situation feels like too much.

I think that the techniques could have been delved into a bit more, but understand that the target audience is young, By sparking their curiosity, their parents can fill in the gaps. All in all, I do like this book, and would recommend to younger readers

And as a mother of a child who is very sensitive, I absolutely loved the heart of this story.
I read this with my (very sensitive) four-year-old daughter and right away I can tell she connected to the story. It is very hard to keep her attention at this age, but she loved listening to this story! I can’t wait to buy the physical copy so that we can admire all the vibrant colors in person.

Aurora the rabbit will teach children about feelings they may not have names for yet -- anxiety, being overwhelmed, and empathy. The sensitive animals Aurora meets teach her coping strategies. Charming, colorful illustrations by Katy Tanis will draw young readers into the story. The final pages provide information about the desert wildlife and plants that may be unfamiliar.

This book is about a little rabbit who is different than the other things - it feels things more intensely. Not just its own feelings, but also other peoples feelings like worry, devastation, agitation... After a flood the little rabbit picks up on all of this and can't help the family rebuild their home because it is so overwhelmed. Instead it ventures out to meet other desert animals to learn how to deal with those intense feelings.

I really enjoyed this book! The children who read it can (through the rabbits eyes) learn different exercises and practices that help them with their high sensitivity as well. The practices are well explained and taught through conversations.

I found this book:
* helpful
*child oriented
*full of beautiful images and drawings

If you have a child in your life that might benefit from this topic, try to get your hands on this book! In my opinion there aren't enough books that gear towards children with high sensitivity that don't victimize. So this is a great resource to have!

I will definitely include this in a planned post on my Instagram where I recommend some children's books that are coming out (or have already been released) in 2025. Will add the link to this review once it is posted

Thank you very much to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of being able to share this book with my kids.

My kids really enjoyed this book, they really got the story, and they adored the pictures and the facts at the end of the book. In my opinion this book would be best geared based on the story as a grade 3 and up story at least in Canada. I loved that this was educational in so many ways. The pictures were so well detailed, and I truly loved just like my children the facts included at the back of every real-life animal we got to meet and every bit of nature as well. An animal lover is really going to adore this. Above all I loved the story. This story really highlights what it truly in ever aspect of your being how being sensitive and empathetic really feels like inside. It also does a fantastic job of showing and reminding older children how to work with and alongside their big hearts. This would be a fantastic resource book for school, and it's an even more fantastic book for every home.

Thank you very much from the bottom of heart for allowing me and my kids the ability to snuggle up and read this book together. I truly appreciate it!

Thank you to NetGalley for an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book!! All thoughts are entirely my own.

What a sweet book that I can see being invaluable for all the hyper-sensitive young folks out there!! The art was absolutely breathtaking!! The storytelling was smooth and easy for kids to follow along with. If I have one criticism, it is that when receiving advice, Aurora is told to self-isolate if she is feeling overwhelmed. While I think it's important to self-soothe on your terms, the way it was worded may lead a hyper-sensitive child to believe it's okay to simply just disappear without telling anyone where they are going. Other than this very brief wording, the rest of the advice Aurora is given is genuinely very helpful!! Overall, a book I think you should pick up if you have any young minds you're wanting to raise to be emotionally intelligent.

Oh👏🏼 my👏🏼 gosh👏🏼 this was so cute!! 😍

Little, sensitive Aurora was literally me. I’m not exactly going to go into how similar her feelings and ways of thinking are to mine 😅, but the lessons she learned from the other animals of the Sonoran Desert were lessons I wish I had learned as a child, who didn’t know why she was so different compared to her family. Setting boundaries, having some alone time, and talking about what you are feeling to someone you trust are some helpful lessons Aurora learned from her new companions. ❤ And the illustrations were so beautiful! Everything about this book is adorable, and I can’t wait for it to be published so I can purchase it for my nieces and nephews. 🥰

I highly recommend this book for not only the little ones in your life, but even for yourself as well. Self-care and learning how to communicate are essential in our hectic lives. ❤‍🩹

A beautiful rendition of the Sonoran Desert to go along with a lovely story about a rabbit who feels too much and ways to help yourself. It's a book that promotes understanding and kindness both with yourself and others filled with adorable desert fauna.

This is the book I needed as a child! Actually, it was quite comforting to read now as a highly sensitive adult who still regularly gets overwhelmed and cries.

The artwork is so calming and beautiful. After the story, there's a lovely little section about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran desert. The watercolor paintings are simply magical.

I think this is a truly wonderful book to provide to all children whether they tend to be highly sensitive or not. If they are a sensitive child, it shows them gentle ways to take care of their hearts and how to exist in a world that's not always kind. If it's being read to a child who isn't the highly sensitive type, I think it would explain the personality of others who may be challenging for them to be around.

The Highly Sensitive Rabbit is a treasure of a book, I loved it! Thank you, Judith Orloff, Sounds True Publishing, and NetGalley for this ARC!

This was a beautifully written children's book. There were some good suggestions for what to do for highly sensitive rabbits (people), and the illustrations were phenomenal! I liked the end where there were descriptions about different plants/animals living in the desert.

This is a very sweet, short story. I think this would be a great read aloud book for preschool, TK, or kinder or for parents who have sensitive children to help them feel understood and present coping strategies for those difficult times of feeling overwhelmed. I think many children will be able to see themselves with the main character, and feel seen and understood.

This book is super cute and a great way to start a conversation with a kid who is a big feeler! Being from Colorado, we also loved that it was set in the desert and all the desert animals and descriptions that were included. Great art and great message.

Thank you for the eARC!

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.

What a lovely story about a rabbit who is more sensitive to the world around her then her siblings. She learns ways to help regulate herself in a chaotic world.

The Highly Anxious Rabbit perfectly connects the wonder of Nature with the complexity of the human (or in this case, rabbit) experience. It tells the story of Aurora, a Cottontail Rabbit in the Sonoran Desert. Aurora is hyper-aware of the world around her and is unsure what to do about it. Thankfully, she meets some great teachers! This is a perfect book to explain what it means to be highly sensitive, with a healthy dose of wildlife education too. I'm definitely going to pick up a physical copy upon release!

Very easy to read and follow. The pictures depict accurately what the story tells. Aurora is a sensitive rabbit and learns how to cope with her emotions from help of some other animals. Appropriate for a child to read themselves. Makes for a good story to read to a child as well. I really like the different suggestions Aurora gets t try and help her feel better. Relatable to what we all should be doing and often forget.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True Publishing for providing an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

My son and I read this together and thought it was so adorable! It is a sweet book about a very sensitive bunny, Aurora, and the coping mechanisms that she learns from others - because she isn't alone in feeling this way. Such a beautiful message, I wish I had this book when I was little. And the art is lovely as well.

I'd recommend this book to any parent with little ones, and to classroom libraries.

I wish I had a book like this when I was younger! One of the authors, Judith Orloff, is a UCLA psychiatrist, so there is thoughtful representation of situations that a highly sensitive or empathic child may encounter, especially in regards to being bullied about being too sensitive. It was also wonderful that the highly sensitive rabbit found support in the community wherever she looked, which brings hope and an uplifting message into the story. One of my favorite new children’s book.

Special thanks to Sounds True Publishing and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest, independent review.

As a highly sensitive mom, I deeply appreciated The Highly Sensitive Rabbit, written by Judith Orloff and Jennifer Adams, with beautiful illustrations by Katy Tanis. Recommended for children ages 4 to 8, this thoughtful story follows Aurora, a rabbit who is an empath learning to navigate and regulate her emotions after a flash flood devastates her family home.

Aurora’s journey is both relatable and insightful, especially for children who may struggle with intense feelings and whose families might not fully understand or know how to support them. What stands out is how Aurora thoughtfully seeks guidance from her desert friends, discovering various coping techniques and ultimately finding what works best for her unique emotional needs. This approach offers a compassionate, empowering message for young readers about self-awareness and emotional resilience.

The illustrations are simply stunning. Katy Tanis’s artwork beautifully captures the warmth and vulnerability of the story, with a cover design that would catch anyone’s eye, even if the title or subject were different.

While the narrative focuses on emotional regulation, the educational material at the back of the book expands on broader topics beyond emotions and self-awareness, which I found both refreshing and valuable. This additional content provides parents and educators with useful tools and insights, enriching the book’s overall impact.

I highly recommend The Highly Sensitive Rabbit for families, educators, and anyone seeking to foster empathy and emotional intelligence in young children.
