This is a book packed full of sweet treats that are healthy, positive for your body and sugar-free. To be clear, this isn't a meals recipe books (though there are a couple of casseroles), it's more add-ons: muffins, cake bars and cookies, bread and rolls, pies (what we would call tarts in the UK), ice-creams and some amazing drinks. As someone always keen to cut down on sugar, I love these ideas for nut crusts as a substitute for biscuit bases (e.g. for cheesecake-style desserts), and imaginative uses for coconut cream.
Do be aware that this is not a diet or low-calorie book, but if you're a healthy weight and are on the look-out for sugar-free treats, then this is fabulous. Everything is made from scratch but there are also plenty of easy and fast recipes for those of us who don't want to spend too long in the kitchen.
Personal favourites so far include Basil Limeade With Honey, and the amazing Kiwi Lime Pie which substitutes avocado and coconut cream for dairy cream and cheese.
Sadly, not all the recipes are pictured, and measurements are given throughout in American cups - recommended for anyone looking to cut down on sugar and flour and willing to be open-minded about substitutions to traditional recipes.

This is the first cook book I have read from Megan S. Stevens. I did find it a little different that some of the cook books I have read before. Ms. Stevens is from my understanding of her book and blog is on the healing GAPS diet. This book goes over eating very natural foods and doesn't use store bought type flours and such. With that said I did find that she was able to give me some great recipes! This a great book for someone looking to eat natural and find ways around certain foods...and cooking them. I am very grateful to have this book and hope that you find that it is a great book to have too!

The book itself is beautiful. I loved the emphasis on baking and sweet treats. As the book is aimed at the US market, I needed to adapt it myself for the UK. The ingredients are not all readily available here, so I will need to do a bit of shopping around and internet ordering for some. It is a good book though, inspires you to try new things, and I have my own ideas for adapting the recipes to include some of my favourite ingredients. The illustrations were beautiful, and the layout was very good. I loved the extra details and background story.

Such yummy recipes! There's very few things more exciting than eating our All-Time favorite food guilt free. The book is filled with healthy alternatives from favorites such as pancakes, crepes, muffins, and cakes. This cookbook should be in every home!

I LOVED THIS COOKBOOK!
A truly innovative cookbook. I tried the method of making carrot flour from my juice pulp, and it worked. I tried several of the recipes, and the texture was different from the wheat flour pastries, but they were delicious.
I also learned how to sprout nuts. I had been paying a bundle for raw, sprouted nuts at the health food store, but she gave me simple instructions, and I will be doing it myself.
So many of the gluten-free, and grain free, cookbooks take out the gluten, or grains, and just replace it something just as bad. This cookbook doesn't do that. Every replacement is healthy and yummy.

My goal: to eat healthier foods without resorting to having a plate filled with strange foods that no one in my house will eat. I will be the first to confess that I haven't jumped on the gluten-free diet trend, or even given up carbs! While these recipes have substitutes for flour such as; nuts, coconut flour, pumpkin seeds and beans, I definitely think that they are worth trying. I love the addition of lots of healthy ingredients and especially the ideas for things to use in place of sugar.
I was pleasantly surprised that this luscious cookbook offers some amazing recipes: carrot cake waffles; chocolate chia seed waffles; traditional scones; zucchini bread; blueberry tea bread; sausage and egg muffins; chocolate chip cookies; pumpkin spice cookies; pumpkin cream cheese bars; chocolate cake with chocolate frosting; loaf bread; Yorkshire pudding; pizza dough; shepherds pie; vanilla custard and homemade coconut milk.
I recommend using this cookbook to try some new ways of making old foods.

It's a lovely book. Many of the products used are expensive. Some products are not available in my supermarket. It's wonderful to have recipes for diet restrictions. To actually be able to make foods that you can't buy in a store is great, so you don't feel like you're missing out. Thank you to Megan Stevens for all the hard work.

A very helpful book for those who are trying to survive in a grain free, sugar-free regimen after a lifetime of conditioning to love pasta and candy bars Thanks

I liked this cookbook for its down-to-earth recipes and gorgeous photographs. Whether the reader follows a Paleo style diet or just appreciates healthy, good-tasting food, looking into the book will certainly cause cooking up a storm to follow!

As I stick my toe in the water of trying to moderate/eliminate the Grains and Sugars in my family's diet, this was a lovely find.
There is a beautiful variety of dishes to try and I am eager to do so.
Instructions are well-written and easy to follow.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGallery in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A wonderful resource for those who must--or choose to--abstain from grains and sugar.

Here’s another healthy eating recipe book, you may think, but Megan Stevens has really pulled through with a great selection of recipes ‘free from’ different types of foods. This is ideal if you can’t eat something, or simply don’t want to because you know it’s not particularly good for you. If you want to cut out sugar, for example, there are tonnes of recipes that list alternative, natural sweeteners which means you can still enjoy some tasty post-dinner treats! She manages to make this kind of diet feel exciting and unrestrictive, with recipes that aren’t too complicated- they’re just right!
I am ashamed to say I was completely ignorant of how many ingredients really should be avoided if you want to eat more healthily, and instantly assumed that would mean a dull, uninspiring diet but this book really proved me wrong. So many delicious looking, genuinely healthy recipes in one place!

Having been on the Banting diet for a while now, I am constantly in search of a low carb and low sugar dessert that I can offer the family. This book does not disappoint at all.
After seeing recipe upon recipe that required almond or coconut flour (both of which are not exactly cheap), I was pleasantly surprised to find so many recipes with loads of alternatives. I had never even heard of carrot flour, which is definitely so easy to make. The photos that were available gave me hope since these unconventional recipes looked the same as anything I have ever eaten-nothing says disappointment quite like being promised a chocolate cupcake and receiving a flat brown cookie type mess. The book does not really offer dinner type meals, but more snacks, desserts and add-ons, which is great as there are so many options. I really liked the way that there are substitutes available for some of the ingredients, as well as a number of different types of the same dish. The addition of the explanatory introduction as well as addendums detailing reasons as to why not to eat certain foods were very helpful. As for instructions on how to make your own nut butter and sprout nuts-well call me the domestic goddess! And finally-pizza that is guilt free!
Definitely recommending this one-beautifully presented and well thought out. Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to review this book.

I would like to thank Megan Stevens for allowing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.
As those who have read some of my other blogs and book reviews will know, I am one of THOSE foodies who is into grain, dairy and refined sugar free making and baking for health reasons. So I do love it when I come across a book that is suited to my diet as they too have similar problems.
Loved this book. I’ve been saying that a lot lately, so I must be choosing some pretty amazing works of late. ;-)
Okay, so yeah, I didn’t love ALL of this book as we’re not a family who uses Stevia and so I would need to do some fiddling to figure out some of the recipes. My husband is one of those rare people who find it tastes bitter, not sweet. And it gives me and one of our kids really bad headaches. And this is straight, natural Stevia I’m talking about (green powder/ dried actual Stevia plant). Not one blended with artificial sweeteners. BUT! I will have to say the fault is totally with the reader and not the author or the book! I’m a big girl; I can work around the Stevia issues. And not all the recipes are sweetened with Stevia so it’s really no biggie at all.
Oh, but I can’t see myself trying cricket powder. Sorry, I know all the logical benefits to using such a product… I’ve just decided not to be an insectivore. ;-) My problem again, not the authors. Though I will give her huge thumbs up for even using it and mentioning it as it really is a logical food product we should be focussing on.
Other than those extremely small hiccups, this is a fantastic book. Some recipes are similar to ones I already know from similar genre cook books, some are totally new to me and I just wish I had the time to race about the kitchen making them.
I also really enjoyed the ‘dairy’ and then ‘dairy free’ options for recipes. And, after the recipes the ‘Foods NOT to eat (and why)’ was worth the read (though most of it I already knew). Both it and the glossary after it were a terrific addition to help those new to this sort of diet. They explain things in easy to understand words and, to me, are essential parts of any cook book of this genre.
Actually, looking back over it, all the appendix are a good source of information to those starting out on this sort of diet. They are a really good helping hand that covers more than just the essentials. Well done.
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. And not just those who are already following this sort of diet, but to those who don’t… as they’re really benefit swapping to healthier baking. I do love how the Ms Stevens states this isn’t a book to encourage you to bake more, simply that if you want to bake these are far healthier options. I couldn’t agree more, and why I would recommend this book.
Would I buy this book for myself? So very tempted… oh, who am I kidding, if I saw it in the shop yes I WOULD buy it! But I’m very tactile with my cook book buying and only ever buy the paper format and usually only after I’ve had a thumb through it to see if I connect with it. I’ve connect with the e copy of ‘Eat Beautiful’ so I don’t doubt I’d connect to the paper version too.
In summary: If you’re looking for some good, grain and refined sugar free baking ideas, this book is for you. I won’t say it’s all plain and simple work as there is a little bit of fiddling involved. But if you’re already someone who follows this sort of diet, it won’t be any different to what you already do. If you’re new to this sort of diet, trust me – the fiddly bits are worth it as the quality of food and health benefits you get in return is amazing.

Really good recipes that actually work!...and taste good.

Lovely book for anyone wanting/needing to cook grain-free and sugar-free. The book has very honest feeling, Ms Stevens truly feels like she care about healthy eating - in very approachable, non-preachy way (and she knows what she is talking about, as her family does the healthy dieting). Especially baked goods seem yummy! I love all things bread, so I am happy for anyone with the same craving to be able to find several recipes here (I especially like Panini recipe). I like that most of the ingredients are easily to buy locally. I find the recipes pretty understandable and the preparation and cooking techniques well described. Also I love photos included!
There is also special chapters dedicated to methods and where to find/buy food and equipment.

One of the things that I have more and more trouble with is providing foods that all of my friends can eat. I have many who are not able to eat gluten and others who can't have sugar. I also have many who are vegetarians & even some vegans. So I would usually bring along a huge bowl of vegetables or fruit to various functions.
With this cookbook, I can bring many more items. There are so many great recipes that opened me up to a whole wide world of healthier eating. And they all tasted really great. Well, at least the ones I have tried. I haven't made them all yet.
Seriously though. Homemade carrot cinnamon yougurt!! Need I say more? It was scrumptious!
The slow-cooked pork cobbler may not be vegan or vegetarian, but it was to die for! And now I know another way to prepare rutabagas. I had only known 1 way which is the way my family has made it for as long as I can remember. They were chopped up and put in the pork cobbler. Ooohhh!!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
So if you have dietary restrictions or have friends that do (or even if you just want to eat a little healthier) then you must get this cookbook!
Disclaimer: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation.

What a wonderful cookbook with so many tasty recipes! This is not a cookbook that you will use once or twice and then leave to collect dust on a bookshelf. This is a cookbook you will use all the time, for many different types of food. I will definitely be ordering a hard copy for my kitchen!

It is difficult to stand apart from the healthy lifestyle books that are flooding the market but Eat Beautiful is one not to be missed!
