Description
Restless examines the root of our “grass is greener” tendencies and motivates us to find meaning right here, right now.
Do you often have this nagging sense that something better could be around the corner? Even when you’re grateful for what you have, are you tormented by the suspicion that you should be on a different path? This restless feeling – of always wanting to chase something more or different – can feel like growth, but it’s actually keeping you from finding happiness.
What if, instead, you could experience life fully, in the present moment – free of regret, indecision, and constant longing? That is what you’ll find in Restless.
Inside you’ll discover:
- The psychological, emotional, and cultural drivers of restlessness
- How restlessness shows up in our day-to-day (even when we love our lives!)
- Help decoding the message behind your feelings of restlessness
- Guided exercises for accessing your intuition and clarifying your values
- How cultivating presence is the key to feeling “alive"
Restless will remind you that you are enough, just as you are. It will help you find the deeper message beneath your discomfort and align your choices with what truly matters to you. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to find the adventure, meaning, and inspiration you long for, right where you are.

I requested this book because I spent my 20s going, "What if?"; this book meditates on that question to the max with a well-written, insightful response. It breaks down the classic problem of, "What if I can be more?" by going to the root of the problem. I loved that it was supported with personal stories and research because I am a sucker for that combo.

The subtitle of this book drew me right in: "How to stop living an if-only life". I found Restless to be an insightful, warm and well-written guide on the classic conundrum of always thinking there is something more, better or shinier that could make our lives complete, backed by research and personal anecdotes. Very relatable and helpful.

I've been looking for a book on restlessness for a very long time so I was extremely happy to find this one!
In Restless, Kristen Mosier puts words to that feeling we've all felt over the course of our lives. That feeling that says "things will get better when." That feeling that can even prompt us to blow up our lives and start over to fit the ideal in our head. What if the grass truly is greener on the other side? What if I'm missing out?
What I appreciated about this book is that Kristen answers these questions and more with a thoughtfulness and grace that can feel rare in our constantly "max" saturated world. This book truly felt like a therapy session. I am leaving it with questions to reflect on and small actions I can take to better my world and become more present to my life.
Some things I loved: I appreciated how each chapter focused on a different area of life (the romance and friendship section were my personal favorites) and I like that the book was heavily researched. I am leaving with tools and follow ups that I can use as I start my journey to become more mindful and grateful in my everyday life.
One thing I struggled with: there were moments where I felt like I was being given lots of tools and modalities without stories about how to actively apply them. I would have enjoyed reading more longer form stories about people successfully applying some of these skills as the few stories that were shared were absolutely memorable!
All in all, I'd say this book is for the restless self development obsessed folks like myself who have been searching for research around how to stay present, sit still, and commit to their lives the way they are now. If you are a fan of thought leaders like Brene Brown and Nedra Glover Tawwab, then I believe you will absolutely enjoy this book.
