Description

Raise kids who can handle whatever life throws at them—from the Navy SEAL performance coach who discovered that real resilience comes from connection, not pressure.

Every parent wants to raise strong, confident kids. But we're often told we have to choose between gentle parenting that feels too permissive and tough love that damages connection. In the process, modern parenting has too often replaced preparation with protection.

There's another way: Puddle Jumper Parenting.

As a Navy SEAL performance coach, Brandon Webb once believed mental toughness came from pressure and perfection. Then he became a dad and everything changed. He discovered that real resilience isn't built by pushing harder. It's grown through compassion, connection, giving kids permission to fail forward, and being a steady presence in an uncertain world.

Puddle Jumper Parenting is about raising kids who leap, splash, and grow stronger with every mess. Kids who aren't afraid to make mistakes, take risks, or bounce back from failure. Using the same mental-performance techniques Webb used to train elite operators—now adapted for real families—you'll learn how to build lasting confidence through positive self-talk, help children handle stress and setbacks without falling apart, and create clear boundaries while maintaining emotional connection.

This isn't theory. It's battle-tested methods from the most demanding environments on earth, refined through years of raising three kids who are now grounded, joyful, and living lives on their own terms.

Your kid doesn't need to be perfect. They just need to be brave enough to jump.
Raise kids who can handle whatever life throws at them—from the Navy SEAL performance coach who discovered that real resilience comes from connection, not pressure.

I liked the tips throughout this book. I resonated with a lot of it. Like how to lift your child up and encourage positive self talk.
He relies on his military training to shape how he parents, which works in a lot of areas.
I think this will resonate more with military families, but there are tips in there for any parent.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

I have been reading a lot of parenting/self-help books recently as I prepare for my own journey in parenthood. Puddle Jumpers provides many tips and tricks on raising strong and resilient children. I especially liked how this book highlighted ways to navigate tough times with children that are out of the child’s control, not just how to handle tantrums etc. but how to lead and nurture when life throws challenges at a family as a whole. I think a lot of parents can find useful information in this book and appreciate the relatability with the author as well!

If you’re looking ahead to a practical parenting read, Puddle Jumpers by Brandon Webb is one I’d keep on your radar.

It focuses on building confidence and resilience in kids in really down-to-earth, everyday ways—nothing overly complicated or unrealistic. From what I’ve seen, it’s more about small, consistent habits that help kids grow into capable, happy people.

I’ll likely be recommending this to parents (and even caregivers or educators) who want something encouraging and straightforward, especially if you prefer advice that feels doable rather than overwhelming.

I really enjoyed this one. Even though my kiddos are still younger, the author did a fantastic job of pointing out simple and practical ways of raising kiddos that are resilient, willing to learn from their mistakes, and own up to things they may have done wrong. You can tell that he was doing something correctly, because throughout the book he has his own grown children reflect on some of the strategies and techniques that he used while raising them. Definitely lots of things I will be keeping in my back pocket for when my girls hit the teenage years.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Author’s Equity for the advance copy of this title.

Puddle Jumpers does a great job of laying out simple, practical strategies to help your children develop into resilient, capable, independent adults. It details Brandon Webbs experiences in parenting and provides practical tips, thoughts, techniques and scripts to utilise, as well as a helpful summary, worksheets and media suggestions at the end.

Brandon Webb leans heavily into his military background as the basis for much of his advice, and you can see this play out in how pragmatic his approach and techniques are. I think it does lend itself to quite black and white thinking and it does come across as a little blunt at times.

I loved that the book is evidence-based and found the family challenges and checklists a good way to consolidate what was discussed in each chapter, and easily apply them to my own family life.

Applicable for all ages but probably most suited to parents of children 8+, this is a great read and a really workable parenting resource.

A really wonderful book! I enjoyed the principles in this book, even if they don’t always align with my own parenting practice. A great read.
