Filled with beautiful photographs and descriptions of wildflowers that bloom around where I live, I see this as a great guide.
Personally, I could have used less in the beginning, because if I want to carry a book around on a hike, I need it to be lightweight. So perhaps I will just photograph and then use the book to look them up.
I think this and the Eastern Washington volume would be a great addition to our camper for when we are exploring our beautiful region.
I appreciate that the map included the northern most part of California and B.C. to show exactly where the flowers can be found.
Thank you to Net Galley and Timber Press for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is a good ID book, like others in the series. There is one color photo of each flower, with an emphasis on the flowers in bloom for the photo rather than leaves, overall appearance, etc. Each flower has information about plant features, where it is found, Latin name, and a little general information. They are divided into chapters by flower color, with chapters at the start about ecoregions, the importance of not disturbing them and more.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book online for review.

Another excellent and educational book from Timber Press. I think of this as a floral companion to their useful guide to the birds of Western Oregon and Washington., which I also recommend. This book is well organized, featuring flowering plants by color.. The book abounds with great, clear photos. Introductory text is helpful and straightforward. is great as a regional introduction, a field guide, or just a visual treat to enjoy..

Just like the eastern version of this book, this is a great resource, but for the western parts of Oregon and Washington.
This is set up in a very approachable format with a lot of great information without being overwhelming.
I liked that we got pictures of the different ecoregions in the beginning of the book, that was really interesting. The safety and resources section is also really helpful for knowing what to look out for (snakes, poisonous plants, etc.) and where to find more information about the flowers and areas.
It gives information about where each plant can generally be found on a map for each plant on its page, descriptions of leaves and flowers, when they bloom, and more.
I would definitely recommend this as a reference for hikers, photographers, or just anyone interested in wildflowers!
