Description
America is facing a new generation of threats—and most citizens won't see them coming until it's too late.
Today's adversaries don't need tanks or armies. They use artificial intelligence, cyberattacks, disinformation, economic pressure, and infrastructure vulnerabilities to weaken nations from within, quietly and in plain sight.
In Know the Threat, former U.S. Army CID Special Agent Tony Perez draws on decades of experience in military investigations, corporate security, and national security to break down today's most pressing threats in clear, practical language. This isn't written for intelligence professionals—it's written for everyday Americans who want to understand the world they're actually living in.
Instead of fear and sensational headlines, Know the Threat offers real-world examples, historical context, and practical guidance to help you recognize danger before it becomes tomorrow's news.
Inside, you'll learn:
How foreign intelligence services recruit Americans
Why AI and deepfakes are reshaping the threat landscape
How cyberattacks target individuals, businesses, and critical infrastructure
What economic espionage and IP theft cost the country each year
How disinformation shapes public opinion without you noticing
Where terrorism, transnational crime, and insider threats intersect
Practical steps to strengthen your own security and resilience
This book will help you understand the threats shaping today's world and prepare you to recognize them before they reach your family or community.
National security is no longer solely the government's job. It begins with an informed, prepared, and vigilant public.
You can't defend against a threat you don't recognize. Start by knowing the threat.

I wish I could say this book will wake people up, but I doubt it. Further, it makes too much sense in its arguments for most Americans to take it seriously. Great book that is long overdue.

This book draws heavily on the 2026 Annual Threat Assessment of the United States Intelligence Community, as published by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which I didn't know was a thing until I read this book. The author's personal anecdotes and observations were very interesting and really helped to ground the more abstract concepts of these threats in reality. The "Preparation" step for each threat is the most useful, laying out the real preventative actions you can take in your life. I see a lot of these things mentioned on the news or in political commentary, and it always feels very distant and not related to my day-to-day experience, but this book really personalizes them.
