WOMAN OF SUNLIGHT is another enchanting book in The Brides of Hope Mountain series by MARY CONNEALY. It is such a lovely story with delightful characters, excitement and suspense, humour and a great Christian message, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
This is Ilsa's story. She has just recovered from a nearly fatal bout of chicken pox which she caught from Mitch Warden, and is back running and swinging through the treetops, when Mitch is attacked. He kills one attacker and injures another and she goes with him down to Bucksnort to take them to the sheriff and to be a witness to what happened.
The Nordegren sisters were very isolated growing up and Ilsa has never been to a town before, let alone been off the mountain! I love her innocence and loyalty, and Mitch's gentleness and strength.
I am not going to tell you any more, except to say I had a smile on my face all the way through, in spite of some nail biting tension!
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

The synopsis for Mary Connealy's current series, Brides of Hope Mountain, captured my attention. really like the covers too. Lots of bright colors and beautiful woman grace the wilderness. I throughly enjoyed Aiming for Love, the first book in this series. Jo was an unique and different style of character. Connealy does it again with Ilsa. She is not like any heroine I have ever read. And I read a lot of suspense novels. She is brave and unfamiliar with the new world outside her mountain home, but she isn't afraid to try new clothes, food, and surroundings. As for Mitch, the hero, he seemed a little off in Aiming for Love, but he redemmed himself in Woman of Sunlight. The plot moved really nicely along.I did like how Connealy paid attention and Isla's indifference to her surroundings, but kept her true nature alive throughout the novel. I liked this story too. I really can't wait to read Ursula's, the third and final sister's, story.

I received a complimentary copy of Woman of Sunlight by Mary Connealy from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.

'She'd swing in from the treetop. Into a gunfight. She'd brought a knife to a gunfight. What's more, she'd won.'

Mary Connealy adds to her Brides of Hope Mountain admirably with this second novel. I just adore Mary Connealy. The Nordegren sisters have lived on Hope Mountain all their lives, raised to be afraid of the world by their grandparents, who are now dead. Now they must learn that the world is a very odd place for them. This installment deals with the sister Ilsa. We came to know her in book one and also to love her. She and Mitch Warden caught chicken pox together and now they are well, someone is after Mitch to kill him. He decides to go back east to face his would be killers rather than endanger his family after coming back west to help them reclaim their land from a sneaky varmint. But Ilsa insists on coming with him to the city. She has never ridden a horse, never seen a train, much less eaten in a restaurant. Things get strange pretty quickly, especially when they must dodge bullets nearly every day!

Mary Connealy has long been a favorite of mine. Her wit and dry sense of humor have me cackling out loud during every book. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book and look forward to sister Ursula's story next year! Oh, why does it have to be so long? Highly recommended.

I was looking forward to this book and it was even better than I’d hoped. Ilsa is such a fun character. She reminds me a bit of Mowgli in the Jungle Book when he sees civilization for the first time. Mitch takes Ilsa, the woman who likes to fly through the trees like Tarzan, to some big cities and of course, it’s confounding to her. I hadn’t thought about the noise of a big city until she pointed it out but it’s so true.

I liked the way Ilsa is determined to protect Mitch and that she has the skills to do it. I appreciated how Mitch counted on her and accepted her for who she was, rough edges and all, and wasn’t threatened by her. I laughed at Ilsa’s responses to his explanations of propriety and rules of society.

I enjoyed this second book in the Brides of Hope Mountain series and am looking forward to learning more about Ursula in the next one. Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Woman of Sunlight by Mary Connealy is another fun addition to Mary's new series about three young women who have grown up on an isolated mountain. Their lack of knowledge about the outside world can be a blessing or lead to great confusion as they finally come into contact with the outside world. This author is one that I enjoy reading as she combines humor, physical comedy, and romance into a world of adventure. In this episode, the heroine is a combination medicine woman and a female Tarzan. Not understanding the ways of propriety, Ilsa finds herself forced into a marriage with Mitch, an outsider who has brought all kinds of trouble to their mountain. To end his troubles with an unknown enemy, they travel to Chicago where her ability to climb trees and wield a knife prove invaluable. This book contains plenty of humor as the worlds of rich gentleman and country innocent provide plenty of misunderstandings. A few surprises will catch the reader off guard as the mysterious unravels and they eventually find true love within their arranged marriage.

A wonderful and delightful experience! If you are looking for a great and light hearted experience then this book will not disappoint!
Ilsa and Mitch constantly find themselves fighting with one another. Mainly due to Ilsa wild way of climbing trees and her insistence on the belief in 2 Bibles. Mitch is almost killed until Ilsa comes swinging in to his aide. Thanks to her help one killer is killed and the second is rendered unconscious. Thus leading to a trip to town to turn them in to the sheriffs office.
This trip to town results in a marriage of Ilsa and Mitch being caught alone in his room talking. This is where the adventure and fun begins as they travel to Chicago to try to find Mitch’s killer, facts pointing to his former partner in his business but will he find out before he gets killed? If Ilsa is near he may just make it out alive.

Woman of Sunlight, a bright title that leaves me almost expecting a book with an Indian (I know it's not politically correct but as someone with some Cherokee blood in my family, I find it fine to refer to Native Americans as Indians as well… *shrugs*) woman who was named Woman of Sunlight, I knew it wouldn't be that way but that's almost what the title made me think and I was unsure of how it would fit the book until I started reading, and then it made perfect sense. I found the title was completely correct.

After reading about Mitch's and Ilsa's banter in book one of the Brides of Hope Mountain I was excited to see where they would go, I wasn't expecting what happened to happen, for them to marry like they did, for the reasons they did, and since it went like it did I'd say this book is better for readers over the age of sixteen.

I didn't find Mitch to be hero material in Aiming for Love, he wasn't that impressive, he lacked a good character and was somewhat annoying but I still almost liked him. Just found him lacking, in Woman of Sunlight from his perspective I found that he was actually a good character.

I liked the glimpses into Ursula and what I expect her story to be in the next book, I am eagerly waiting for the conclusion to the Brides of Hope Mountain series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Woman Of Sunlight by Mary Connealy is the second book in the Brides of Hope Mountain Series. I had been waiting rather impatiently for this book ever since I finished Aiming For Love, the first book in the series. Now that I have finished this one I am already counting down the days until the third book releases! I love this series so much.

Ilsa and her sisters have been raised in isolation in the mountains of Colorado. They were raised by their grandparents and were taught to fear people and that going to town would bring sickness and possibly death. With both of their grandparents gone the girls have been living alone and are extremely self sufficient. When the Warden family comes to the mountain in need, the sisters help them out.

Mitch has left his life in New York City and is now living on the mountain with his family. Ilsa and Mitch are drawn to each other, but it seems that the thing they do best is fight. When Mitch's past catches up with him, he realizes that he has put everyone's life in danger. He is determined to resolve the problem, but that means a trip to town and Ilsa insists on going with him. Once in town they embark on a very surprising adventure!

This book was so entertaining! It had me laughing out loud on several occasions and it had a sort of "Tarzan and Jane" feel with the roles reversed. I have to admit that I was very surprised with the twists and turns of this book. It was a lot different than I expected it to be and I loved the suspense. I don't want to include any spoilers, so I'll just say that I didn't see that coming!

I enjoyed getting to catch up with Dave and Jo from the first book and the ground work has been set for the third book which will be Ursula's story. It's going to be good! I can't wait to see how this series wraps up.

Thanks to Bethany House Publishing for providing me with this book.

Gifted author Mary Connealy crafts another stunning edition of the Hope Mountain trilogy. She weaves brave, capable female and strong, trustworthy male lead characters throughout her inspirational and historical fiction that readers choose again and again.

Middle sister, Josephine, raised away from society like her siblings, gradually learns interdependence. Though she and Mitch Warden initially and strongly clash, they grow to combine strengths in efforts to protect families and land against several dangers and threats.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

What a fun follow up to Aiming For Love. I really enjoyed the mysteries following Mitch and the adventure he and Ilsa are forced on when the danger following Mitch comes to close to home. The mysteries had few surprises and a satisfying conclusion. Ilsa was such an interesting character and after getting to know Ursula a little bit in this story, I am looking forward to her story later this year. All in all, this was a fun read, with mystery, humor and romance. Recommended.

I received this book for review and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

Lover of Mary Connealy’s books take note. The next installment of the Brides of Hope Mountain series is out. I have wanted to read this book ever since the first one came out. And now I’m waiting anxiously for the third book which should come out later this year. This one concerns the youngest sister Ilsa, and the oldest son of the Warrens, Mitch. Someone is still after Mitch and he needs to find the culprit before his family or the ranch is harmed. He and Ilsa end up married and taking the search to Chicago, which is a totally different environment that the one Ilsa grew up in.

I love every one of Mary Connealy’s series and this one is the best yet. If she would just clone herself and get them out there twice as fast I would be so busy reading her books that I would scarcely have time to read any others.

If you loved the previous book in this series, Aiming for Love, you won't want to miss this fabulous installment in the series. I would highly recommend reading this series in order as this book builds on the events of the previous one.

Isla and her sisters grew up fairly sheltered up on the mountain and away from the world. Mitch is a cultured man of the city, he has made his fortune in New York, but when he is betrayed and narrowly escapes a murder attempt, he joins his family in the mountains unwittingly bringing trouble to the Nordegren sisters. After a compromising situation forces him to marry Isla, they must work together to keep their families safe.

Isla is a intelligent and loyal young woman, she is sensible and innocent from having lived such a sheltered life. But I like how she takes her marriage seriously, and does her best to be supportive of Warden through thick and thin. I admired her straightforward faith, and how she and Warden come to trust each other.

Warden doesn't admit that he likes Isla right away, and it comes out in dislike. But the things that he thought he disliked about her become the things that he loves, I loved how he was sensitive and considerate when showing her his world and challenging her views of faith and God.

Engaging, with good character development and interaction. There is a lot going on, twists, turns and near misses, full of adventure and wholesome romance, setting the stage for the next installment in the series. Highly enjoyable read.

Woman of Sunlight is Mary Connealy’s second installment of the Brides of Hope Mountain series. And I must say, it’s better than the first.

While reading the first novel could help you better understand a few things, Woman of Sunlight can be read as a standalone. I could follow everything even though I read the first book several months ago.

As usual, Connealy packs action and humor that keeps you turning pages. The juxtaposition of Ilsa’s innoncence and ferocity provided most of the moments I found memorable. Especially when Mitch and Ilsa reach the city. Ilsa’s reactions to things we take for granted today will entertain readers as much as the mystery of Mitch’s attacker will keep them them on the edge of their seat. Just when I thought I knew who the culprit was, Connealy threw me for a loop. She’s quite good at spinning an interesting and humoring tale, and this novel is no different.

The fact that the heroine’s family believed that there are two Bibles bothered me. But this novel addresses that more than Aiming for Love, which I appreciated. I think the next novel will finally resolve that. Speaking of the next novel, I liked the glimpses into Ursula. I’m excited to see what she’s up to in the next book.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read. If you like westerns, romantic comedies, and plots that keep you guessing, than this is the book for you.

I just finished reading "Woman of Sunlight" by Mary Connealy and it was good. 4⭐. There were times I would laugh out loud. Mary has a way with words. This is book 2 in the series. The 1st book is Josephine's story, and this book is her sister Ilsa's story.

Holy smoke! This was such an amazing book! Ms. Connealy never ceases to amaze me with her writing but this was just such a fabulous book. I love that Ms. Connealy can write such strong female characters and yet they aren't annoying. Ilsa is as wild as the mountain she grew up on and has no desire to leave that mountain life. Mitch flees the big city when someone tries to kill him and ends up on Ilsa's mountain, along with his parents and brothers. When trouble finds him on the mountain, he decides he must act to protect those he loves. When Ilsa insists on going with him, he reluctantly agrees. But, will curiosity kill the cat? Will Ilsa survive her trek off the mountain? Things get exciting with so many twists and turns!

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!!

I highly recommend this book for lovers of Christian fiction, historical fiction, and exciting adventure!

When I get my hands on a Mary Connealy book, I know I’m in for a fantastic reading treat! I loved Aiming for Love, the first book in Connealy’s Brides of Hope Mountain series, but I wasn’t quite prepared to be immersed in Ilsa’s story. Let me just post a warning—do not eat or drink anything while reading this book. There are so many humorous incidences scattered throughout that you’ll never know when you might end up laughing, snorting, or chuckling. It’s a delicious, riotous, witty barrel of fun.

Connealy is a genius at creating colorful, endearing, imaginative, and quirky characters, and Ilsa and Mitch are two of my favorites. They are so perfect for each other. I love how Mitch just puts aside expectations and goes with the flow. I love Ilsa’s innocence and also her fierceness when needed.

This book can be read alone, but reading Aiming for Love first will enrich the experience and give you a little more background into the family. I’m going to have a hard time waiting for Ursula’s story.

I’ll tell you really quickly why I enjoyed reading this book so that you can go read it too!
It was funny. I was laughing so much throughout the whole book. It’s a great book if you just need a lighthearted book to escape into.
It was adventurous. Whether traveling across the country when winter weather is hitting, running into guys with murderous intents or going dress shopping, Ilsa and Mitch take you on their adventure with them.
It was mysterious. There is a intriguing mystery involved to the story. And the plot has many twists and turns that make it even more mysterious.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys humorous historical and romantic books.

Book 2 in the Brides of Hope Mountain series. Ilsa had always lived on Hope Mountain and was told that to go down it would lead to death. Mitch Warden arrives on Hope Mountain following his family as they are trying to stay ahead of a land rustler. Mitch's past is catching up with him as two men try to kill him on Hope Moutain, and Ilsa is a witness. Trying to find out who is behind the shooting Mitch and Ilsa travel to the big city, along the way Ilsa learns about life off the mountain. This story is full of adventure, romance, humor (two Bibles), and suspense. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read Ursla's story in book 3.

Ya'll this book! This author!! I just love her and her stories! They are amazing!
I think the reason I love them so much is she adds humor and wit to her stories. They are feel good books that just makes you want to laugh right out loud no matter where you're reading the book at. I love it when people give me weird looks.
I first "met" this author when I picked up The Husband Tree. When I finished I knew I was a fan for life. It too is funny. All of her books are.
This new series is awesome! I mean when I started this book I knew that I wouldn't put it down until it was finished.
I must admit that I did snicker at the town's name Bucksnort, Colorado. Sorry but I thought it was cute.
Ilsa and Mitch are something else! I laughed at them in the beginning but yet at the same time it was maddening.
I thought it was wrong to teach these girls to be afraid of the world. Because eventually, they'll need to fend for themselves and meet new people.
I do love Ilsa. I love that she is a healer. It takes years of learning something like that. I"m not sure I'd have patience but if I had to I could. I couldn't imaging living on top of a mountain like that although we did think about it. I'm sure glad we didn't.
You will fall in love with Ilsa. She sort of reminds me of Tarzan who swings through the trees where she's the most comfortable in nature.
The way the author describes Hope Mountain sounds a lot like Kings Mountain here in Kentucky.
Mitch is another story altogether. But, I liked how he took care of some things that continued to follow him.
There's this old saying that you can run but eventually it will follow you. Best to take care of it so you can move on.
I loved every minute of this book and was sad to see it end. I can hardly wait until next year when Ursula's story comes out. And the cover for that book is simply gorgeous!
I loved the cover for this one too. Makes me wonder what tricks she's up to when she grins at you like that.
Thank you Mary and Bethany House for an awesome read!
I highly recommend this book. NO compensations were received I was NOT required to write a positive review but I did because I loved this story so much. There wasn't a thing that I didn't like about this story. It's very entertaining! All opinions are my own.

Woman of Sunlight picks up where Aiming for Love leaves off. The story of three sisters, living in a remote mountain for their whole lives.

Ilsa and Mitch seem at odds from the beginning. Ilsa's innocence brings humor as she tries to define her views and beliefs after being isolated on the mountain top. But she must learn the ways of the world down below.

Mitch, who was a successful businessman back east, now faces a new adventure as he tries to tame the wild Ilsa and her odd ways. With someone out to kill him, He plans to return to the city to face his foes. But Ilsa insists on coming with him. And everything is strange and new to her.

"She'd swung in from the treetop. Into a gunfight. She'd brought a knife to a gunfight. What's more, she'd won.''
(I love this description!
This is the second book that I've read in this series and I ended up loving it too. Having read two of the sister's stories now I am eager to read the last one about Ursula. But that is for another day.
The main characters in this story are well drawn. Both Mitch and Ilsa are intense in their own ways with quite a bit of depth in the story. It helped to be able to get both of their P.O.V,'s as well. I enjoyed how it all meshed together.
Mitch knows himself pretty well and makes some sound observations. That he spent a lot of time being tough and independent. That he usually keeps him emotions under control. Something that Ilsa turns totally upside down because he has never met anyone like her. And she was also as far from the worldly, sophisticated women he is used to.
Ilsa is one wild child, totally innocent of anything outside her mountain world. She's a free-spirit who loves nature, swinging in the treetops, animals and her sisters. I loved this character!! She is non-violent unless she is cornered by an animal or needs to hunt for food. Oh and yes if someone she cares about is threatened. More than once when defending someone the warrior or feral look came out of her expression. That was so well described and Mitch ought to know about it because she saved his skin more than once. Ilsa and her knives yes, that added some interesting moments for sure.
The only downside I felt was the over mentioning of the three different sister's skill sets and fears. I slowed the story a couple of times although all of it was an important part of the story. In my opinion it could have been pulled back a bit.
However, I just had to give it high marks because the mysteries in the story, twists and turns and the people were so good. And the intensity of the chase takes off time and again especially towards the end!
A very satisfying H.E.A. brings it all to an end for now and for them. There is still one other threat out their for the Warden family (probably completed in the next book) but at least this one is over.

Afraid of people and disease, wild child recluse Ilsa Nordegren lives isolated on Hope Mountain when successful business man and neighbor Mitch Warden returns from New York. He brings danger with him as gunmen turn up to kill him. On a trip to the city to get help, Ilsa and Mitch’s relationship gets time to blossom in the midst of intense danger.

Woman of Sunlight is installment #2 in Brides of Hope Mountain Series. The story is about the three young Nordegren women living in isolation on Hope Mountain, Colorado. New York business man Mitch Warden return to help his family, but brings with him danger as armed gunmen turn up. The Nordegrens and the Wardens use all their skills to apprehend them and go to town delivering them to the local sheriff. It becomes vital for Mitch to hire a nation-wide detective agency to investigate the two strangers so he goes to the city. Ilsa insists on accompanying him and it becomes an eye opening experience for her as she has lived such a reclusive life. The mystery of who is trying to kill Mitch kept me gripped right to the end.

Fiercely independent recluse Ilsa Nordegren, is illiterate but knowledgeable about Indian medicine. She seems socially impaired, cut off from the world for too long. I love that she is such a complex character. On the one hand she seems a person having been isolated from other people having little experience; on the other hand she has the most amazing survival skills that come in handy in dangerous situations.

Civil war veteran and successful businessman, Mitch Warden, is Ilsa’s friend and neighbor. Returning from New York he finds his family has been run off their rightfully owned land and stays to help. He is also trying to escape troubles in New York, but that seems to have followed him to Hope Mountain.

Wax Mosby is a hired gun who helps chase innocent settlers and drive them of land they own by law. He is not shying away from criminal acts in the process. I am happy to see he seems to wise up somewhat throughout the plot. His conscience seems to bother him and he seems to feel a pull back to his mother’s Bible teachings. For initially such a bad character, it’s nice to see he seems to go through a process of wanting to get back to his faith and live a decent life..

This plot has elements of a western tale including outlaw gunmen horse riding, criminal activity and gold, which I really enjoyed. My favorite part of the story is descriptions of Ilsa’s love of nature and Mitch’s tireless work to teach her to read and help her adjust to life outside what she had been used to all her life.
Ilsa and Mitch’s romance seem to start with anger and scolding, continue with moments of closeness and finally more and more awareness of their feelings for each other.

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2) by Mary Connealy is a sweet, entertaining and easy read with elements of faith and family, but also danger and hardship. I read it as a standalone which worked absolutely fine, but as a rule I try to read a series starting with #1. This is the first book I have read by Mary Connealy and I will read Aiming for Love (Brides of Hope Mountain Book #1) to catch up with the story line running through the series.

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2) is recommended for fans of Mary Connealy and for readers of historical romance fiction or historical fiction.
Thank you to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for this eARC which gave me the opportunity to share my honest review. All opinions are completely my own.

Diving into any book written by Mary Connealy is a delight because of the combination of romance, western, humor, and mystery that is so unique to this particular author. Woman of Sunlight has everything I expect in a Connealy book and then some.

Ilsa Nordegren is a strong woman. She and her two sisters have to be as they’ve survived alone on a mountain top. Yet, she’s also endearingly naïve about the ways of the world. I mean, once this woman who loves the outdoors, handles a knife better than most men, and swings through treetops gets on a train for the first time, it’s downright hilarious.

As Ilsa and Mitch try to unravel the mystery of who is trying to kill Mitch, they travel from the mountain tops of Colorado to the great city of Chicago (and if you think the train was an experience for Ilsa, imagine what the big city brings).

I smiled and chuckled throughout so much of this book, but the suspense is just as engaging. I also felt Ursula’s despair and loneliness without her sisters and will be watching for her story soon.

What a fun continuation of the adventures of the sisters of Hope Mountain. The story begins several days after the first book ends and finds Ilsa heading down the mountain for the first time in her life. What follows are humorous situations involving her learning “the rules” of society. Unfortunately, her ignorance of the rules lands her exactly in the kind of situation the rules are made for preventing.
Mitch’s story continues as trouble follows him from New York. His past catches up to him and he’s more determined than ever to discover who’s behind all the attempts on his life. Interesting twists and turns take him away from Hope Mountain and back into action again.
Another action-packed adventure with crazy mayhem and humorous situations saturate the pages of Mary Connealy’s latest release. A difficult point of view to write, but the author handles it with ease. One can’t help but to root for girlish Ilsa as she discovers a whole new world in her twenties.
I look forward to the third instalment of Brides of Hope Mountain.

Mary Coneally is known for her books with romantic cowboys playing the lead role. Mitch Warden is playing that lead in the second novel on Hope Mountain.

Ilsa is often described throughout the book as being feral, because of her lack of being around others while she was growing up. She is extremely able to defend and take care of herself, as well as the people around her.

The one time she goes to town, she is found in a compromising position with Mitch and finds herself married to him before she really knows what happens.

The basic plot to the story is finding out who is after Mitch and why that person wants him dead. After fending off several hired guns, Mitch and Ilsa find themselves in Chicago to bring the hunt to an end.

There isn't much in the way of humorous events in this novel which is a departure from Mary's normal mode of writing, but that doesn't detract from the enjoy-ability of the novel. There is enough intrigue to keep the reader involved with the book until the very end. This is a solid four star book.

After years of isolation on top of Hope Mountain, Ilsa Nordegren may finally be ready to leave. Raised to fear the world, Ilsa and her sisters never planned on coming down, but when the Warden family arrived in need, they had to help. And it may cost them everything.

Having made his fortune, Mitch Warden returned home and found the family homestead abandoned. In a land grab, a ruthless cattle baron had forced his family to escape up the mountain, and when he follows, the last thing he expects is to fall smitten to a black-haired woman who dresses like Robin Hood.

Warden is intent on helping his family reclaim their land, but doesn't realize the risks his past has brought. Dangerous men have tracked him, and rather than risk innocent lives, he's determined to end the danger. But that means a journey to the city--and when Ilsa insists on joining him, the mismatched pair suddenly find themselves on a venture they'll never forget.

Another great book by Ms. Connealy. This is the second book in the series. It is not necessary to read the first book but it would be beneficial to read it to understand why Ilsa is the way she is. It was entertaining to see how Ilsa reacted to the world out side her beloved mountain. She had never been off the mountain and then she travels by horseback and train to Chicago. Her perspective is really enjoyable to read. There is also a good mystery involved. Someone is trying to kill Mitch. Little does he know that Ilsa can take care of herself in a fight.

This is a highly entertaining book and I recommend it to everyone. It has mystery, romance and laughter all rolled into one.

I was given this book by Bethany Publishing House via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Woman of Sunlight is a fantastic story. I enjoyed Ilsa and Mitch’s story. I loved that they got married early in the book. Ilsa helps Mitch fight a lot of battles. Someone is trying to kill him. Who is it? It was a surprise to me.

In Woman of Sunlight, there is also a mystery involving the Bible. Ilsa has been told that there were two Bibles. Mitch tries to figure out why.

The book was a historical set in 1873. I love reading this type of book, how different the traveling was. Mostly by horseback but also by foot. Ilsa did get to experience a different way to travel in the book. I just loved her character so much.

This book is the 2nd in the series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the publisher through the author. This book review is my own opinion.

This is the second book in this fascinating series. In book one of the Brides of the Hope Mountain series we met the three sisters living extremely isolated lives atop a mountain. Whereas the first book took place mostly on the mountain, this one takes place among town and city. Although the sisters were raised and taught to never go down from the mountain less they die. Ilsa, this younger savage fairy princess, has to overcome her fear of towns and weird going on, that she did not understand. Mitch Warden has the duty thrust upon him to enlighten her to the ways of the civilized world. This novel takes us on a wild journey of suspense and danger, peppered with life threatening moments even murder. Also romance and of course Conneally’s own brand of humor. Looking forward to book number three with the very weird oldest sister, Ursula being tamed. I have my ideas who will do the taming, but we will see……… I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via Netgalley. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.

This second story in the Brides of Hope Mountain series picks up right where the last story ended. I enjoyed spending time with Ilsa and Mitch in this story and getting to know them better.

I didn’t want to put this story down for a moment. The adventure, the mystery, and of course the fun banter between these two characters kept me wanting more and turning pages late into the night. I do have to admit that I didn’t like how this book ended. But with that said, I was thrilled to find out that there will be a third book, and I can not wait to get my hands on that story!

If you are looking for a page-turning, witty story, filled with mystery and adventure then do yourself a favor and be sure to pick up a copy of this book! Do be sure to catch the first book in the series, because you will want to read these wonderful stories in order.

Ilsa has been sheltered on Hope Mountain. It's all she has known.

Mitch opens the door to a world she never expected. Danger is all around her...the sound of a train, carriages everywhere. But the real danger lurks in the shadows.

Mitch and Ilsa are a good team. They were supportive of each other. They had each other's back. Their marriage might have been unconventional but they complimented each other.

This book is book 2 of a series by Mary Connealy. I read book one so I was introduced to Mitch and Ilsa already. I assume book 3 will be about Ilsa's sister, Ursula. I am looking forward to visiting Hope Mountain again!!

You can very well read this all alone but I highly suggest you read the first book - Aiming for Love.

I received this for free from Bethany House to review.

Ilse Nordegren and Mitch Warden exasperate each other, for various reasons, but Mitch finds he doesn't mind so much when faced with a near-to-shotgun wedding in Mary Connealy's Woman of Sunlight.

From the first word, I absolutely adored this story of danger, adventure, and fraught romance. The slightly mixed up faith of the Nordegren sisters, of which Ilse is a devoted champion, adds such a sweet touch of humor as she begins to have a wider sense of the world.

Mary Connealy has delivered a delightful and endearing second book in the Brides of Hope Mountain trilogy. The more I consider this series, including the build up to the final entry, the more I see similarities with Connealy's Wild at Heart trilogy. While the trilogies are distinct, those similarities help explain why this trilogy is quickly becoming another favorite that I recommend to readers who enjoy a good dash of humor along with faith and cowboys in their Historical Romance.

Be prepared, this is a rollicking, one-sitting read!

(5+ stars) - My favorite Connealy series yet!!

[Book 2 in the Brides of Hope Mountain series - the story can stand alone, but each book is about 1 of 3 sisters, and like most family series is better enjoyed in order]

I loved the first book in this series, "Aiming for Love", but this one somehow managed to surpass it! Ilsa is amazing - she's a sort of female Hawkeye character. She and Mitch are perfectly suited for each other. When they go to the city to take on Mitch's deadly enemies, it's suspenseful, surprising & exciting - and frequently funny. I loved it and can't wait for Ursula's story

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic
*Religion: overtly Christian (the sister protagonists have grown up with confused ideas about what constitutes the Word of God, but nothing irreverent or disrespectful)

Mary Connealy's second book in the Bride of Hope Mountain is just as amazing as Aiming for Love, the first book, I didn't realize just how much I have missed the three naive, sweet and loving sisters until I opened this book. The Nordegren sisters have lived on Hope Mountain all their liives. After the deaths of their grandparents the three girls find their lives pretty much the same, living a life cut off from the outside world where they are sheltered from perceived dangers and illness
Until the Warden family showed up and then the sisters lives changed drastically.

Woman of Sunlight is Ilsa's story and what a story it is! She is quite the character, she's tiny, she thinks nothing of swinging from a treetop and she has truly impressive knife skills. She is also curious which is how she ends up going to New York with Mitch Warden and let tell you to be prepared to laugh your way through their journey. Ilsa is such an innocent young woman who is completely out of her element once she leaves Hope Mountain but seeing her experience things she's never experienced before is heartwarming. Yes, I did use the word seeing because the descriptive writing brought this story to life for me. I could easily imagine the excitement, the fears and the uncertainty Ilsa felt as she was off on her big adventure.

I loved the faith element the characters share although the Nordegren sisters were taught slightly different than most people it does not diminish their beliefs or their ability to help others as best they can.
Overall, this book deserves more than the 5 stars I can give it. As usual Ms. Connealy's writing is top-notch, the characters are endearing and the witty plot line was everything I hoped it would be and more. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

It was a pleasure to continue the story of the Nordegren sisters from the first book. This one focused on Ilsa, the wood sprite who runs through the trees and gives Mitch what-for. They definitely have a volatile relationship in the beginning which is fun, but everything changes when they face assassins who are after Mitch. Ilsa's fearless defense of him shifts his realization of how he regards her with admiration and affection instead of frustration and guilt for getting her sick with chicken pox. Ilsa's isolated existence on the mountain made her adventure to the local town and on to bigger cities an eye-opening experience, where she takes things at face value and Mitch feels the need to explain and interpret her misunderstandings. They become quite a pair as they work together to solve the mystery of who's behind the hired guns and how Mitch was betrayed before he escaped to the mountain. We also get come chapters from Ursula and Wax's perspectives, setting us up for the next book. I'm really looking forward to it!

Married to Your Enemy!

Ilsa and Mitch have just gotten married and they don’t even like each other—and they have to hurry because someone is trying to kill them. Welcome to the Wild West of 1873. Along with her two sisters, Ilsa has spent her entire life living in isolation on top of a mountain. Not only have strangers invaded their homeland bringing all their new ways of living alone, Ilsa is now married to one of them.

No sooner have Ilsa and Mitch said their vows than they are off to Chicago. As they try to solve the mystery of who is behind the murder attempts, they find themselves in as much danger as they left behind, and killers abound.

Because Ilsa lived cut-off from the world, she experienced her first train ride. Every time the whistle blew, she was traumatized, and wanted off. Other firsts were coffee, which she liked after it had milk and sugar. She found the taste of ice cream, strawberries, and apple dumplings such a delight that she couldn’t get enough.

This is a fun book that also contains a very serious story that is full of danger. Ilsa’s faith is refreshing, and is a great part of this tale. This story stands alone, but there are still some threads that need to be answered in the next installment. This 5-star book will be enjoyed by those who like well-written fiction or westerns with a touch of humor.

Woman of Sunlight by Mary Connealy

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

______________________________________________________________________________

Story Notes

Mary Connealy’s second book in the Brides of Hope Mountain is a hilariously fun read with a little suspense thrown in to keep things interesting.

Mary Connealy knows how to keep readers entertained with her wonderfully created stories, smart characters and witty conversations. This latest story is no exception and unlike many second books in a trilogy, I liked it just as well as the first book. It begins right where the first book left off with the Warden family still residing in the Nordegren sisters’ cabin on the side of Hope Mountain. All those who had gotten the chicken pox have sufficiently recovered and are mostly back to normal routines. The unexpected arrival of two gunmen on the mountain sparks a shoot out and creates the need for Mitch Warden to seek out the nearest sheriff. Ilsa Nordegren is not about to miss her chance to finally go into a town and quickly insists that she is going. Mitch points out the lack of chaperone but his mother happily agrees to accompany them as they might meet up with his father and brother on their way down. Their arrival in town with two men slung over horses causes both the local sheriff and the territory US Marshall to question what has happened. Mitch has plenty of questions of his own that he needs answers to but doesn’t seem to be able to get them in Bucksnort. He’s worried the troubles in his past have caught up to him and will put innocent people in danger. Mitch determines to head back East and see what he can discover about the mysterious person paying outlaws to kill him. But before he can leave town, he finds himself in a compromising situation with Ilsa which requires them to marry. Neither of them expected this to happen but both agree to keep things platonic until they get to know each other better. Mitch tries to no avail to get Ilsa to stay with his parents but she is determined to watch his back in light of the continuous onslaught of men coming after Mitch. As they head East, they will find bits of information along the way but until they reach Chicago, they cannot talk with the Pinkerton National Detective Agency who might be able offer the most help. Working alongside the Pinkertons, Mitch and Ilsa begin to puzzle out who is holding a grudge against Mitch and why. But if they are to stay alive, they will have to work fast because someone is determined to silence Mitch forever. This was definitely one of the best stories I’ve read in some time. It had a very good plot, wonderful characters and excellent writing. I loved how protective Mitch was of Ilsa and his kindness in helping her see the error of her belief in two Bibles. Though often frustrated with her stubbornness, Mitch did not leave her behind or demean her. Rather, he let her come along and solve their problems together – even if he was reluctant to put her in more danger. Ilsa is so naive because of her years of isolation on Hope Mountain that she is constantly surprised by her new surroundings. She is terrified of the train they must ride on but is amazed at it’s speed. Ilsa has also never seen food appear as fast as it does in the restaurants they visit. But her sweetness will inspire Mitch to look beyond revenge to justice and ensure that the law takes care of those in the wrong. I loved how they each caused the other to consider the consequences for others of an action rather than just doing what was best for themselves. It made them into better people and taught them the importance of self-sacrifice. And the many discussions of whether or not there are two Bibles made each of them take a deeper look at their faith and beliefs which gave the story the perfect amount of Biblical discussion. I will certainly be recommending this book to others as I know they will enjoy it as well. I am also looking forward to reading Ursula’s story when it comes out later this year.

I can’t possibly tell you how much I have been enjoying this series. Mary Connealy had me laughing out loud and giggling to myself more often than I’d like to admit. I absolutely love the Nordegren sisters and the Warden family. We first meet both families in Aiming For Love, the first book in the Brides of Hope Mountain series. This story follows Ilsa and Mitch as they try to discover who wants Mitch dead, no matter what the cost. Woman of Sunlight can easily be read as a stand alone, but you should read the first book because it was just as impossible to put down, and it will make you love Ilsa and Mitch all the more.

Ilsa is the youngest Nordegren sister and completely unique. I’m talking loves climbing trees, knows nature, and is an amazing healer. She and her sisters have never left the sanctuary of their home on the mountain. When the Warden family shows up they are all terrified of what that could mean. Ilsa being the healer couldn’t leave them to suffer and thus begins the begrudging relationship between the two families. Ilsa and Mitch seemed to bump heads from the moment they met, and I loved watching their chemistry. Mitch is the oldest of the two Warden brothers and shows up later in the first book. Trouble followed him home no matter how careful he thought he was, and whoever is behind it needs to be stopped. Knowing Mitch has no choice but to head to a big city and find law enforcement there, Ilsa has little choice but to go along for the adventure.

I loved seeing the world through Ilsa’s eyes. I couldn’t imagine going from being so secluded to seeing so many new things for the first time. Her and Mitch have to be one of my favorite couples to watch, and I dearly hope we get to see more of them in the next book in this series. I am already dying to read it! I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This story begins with a familiar scenario I felt we’re living in today. The neighbor asks “…”Was there any fever in town?”

They are making sure they don’t come in contact with people who had the virus, the one that lead to bumps all over their bodies. Some people like Ilsa were in quarantine. She had healed up after her time in isolation.

Mitch meets Ilsa and finds himself in a compromising situation neither one of them imagined themselves to be in.

Ilsa isn’t comfortable around people and is not up on the latest social rules. Mitch was innocent and was unsure of the rules too. Now he was “marrying a woman who couldn’t read, liked to wear trousers, roamed the mountains alone at night, swung from trees like a monkey at the New.York. City zoo was far too skilled with a knife, and believed there were two Bibles. And he’d thought owning and operating factories was complicated.”

Someone suggested they go. Ilsa said, “Good idea. I’m hungry. Let’s go home, shoot an elk, and have steak.”

As usual with this authors’ writing style there is a comical event that makes you smile and sometimes laugh out-loud. This was a fun, delightful read with quirky characters to root for, and a story that’s full of surprises.

I haven't read a book by Mary Connealy in a few years but this was just as enjoyable as I remember her others to be. I found Ilsa to be enchanting and somewhat reminiscent of Amelia Bedelia in how she takes things quite literally. I liked the humor between her and Mitch along with the romance that blossoms along the way. There was also some excitement and mystery as they travel to Chicago to figure out who's trying to kill Mitch!

This is the second book in the series but I haven't read the first one yet. I thought it stood-alone fine but I'm sure I've missed a lot from not reading Aiming for Love first. I plan to read that before the last of the series comes out in October 2020.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review this book.

This is Book 2 in Mary Connealy’s Brides of Hope Mountain series. I only just finished Book 1 (Aiming for Love) 2 weeks ago, and I was so excited to be able to review this next book as a part of Mary’s launch team. I did receive a copy of this book for free in an exchange for an honest review.

In this book, we take up with Mitch Warden and Ilsa Nordegren where we left off with them in book 1. These two characters were introduced in the first book, and they continually butted heads. In the next book, their interactions quickly change and before you know it, they are married out of an issue with propriety and on an adventure of their own in Chicago shortly after the 1871 fire.

Because this is a story of marriage of convenience, we get to see Mitch and Ilsa fall in love. They find themselves on a honeymoon that includes Ilsa comically figuring out the modern world (since she’s lived her entire life on top of Hope Mountain with only her sisters as company) in the midst of murder attempts, kidnappings, shootouts, and carriage chases through the city. The last portion of the book is very exciting and you will be on the edge of your seat. A honeymoon is a time for a married couple to bond together and that’s exactly what happens with Ilsa and Mitch. Who knew a honeymoon could be fraught with such danger and mayhem!

The Brides of Hope Mountain is indeed a series. There are plot elements that continue from book to book. The focus just changes from each book depending on who the main point of view characters are. In book 1, both of the major problems are introduced. One problem is solved in Book 2 and the rest I imagine will be resolved in book 3. It would be wise to start at the beginning in book 1 and continue with all three books. You’ll be glad you did.

Woman of Sunlight is an enjoyable and amusing story. It contains characters to care about and root for, an engaging plotline and in the end it will leave you with a warm, feeling to combat the troubles we are currently battling in the world today.

Living in the quarantine era, I'm actually enjoying a little slower pace of life and those quiet moments in the evening when I'm able to read. In light of all that's happening in our world right now, this book was just the escape I needed! "Woman of Sunlight" is about love, courage, loyalty, and trusting God in the face of evil and uncertainty. Mitch is not going to sit around and wait for head hunters to take him down...he's going to fight back. In one of those heated battles, he sees the fairy-like Ilsa turn into a force to be reckoned with. She isn't afraid to fight, and is quite good at it, too. I loved the way that Mitch and Ilsa were a pair of warriors, complementing each other in their fierceness and skill. The action scenes were fantastic! I also appreciated how Mitch let go of any reservations he had about trusting Ilsa and learned to work with her as an equal teammate. The romantic tension in Connealy's novels are some of the best there is. The fun banter between characters, their thoughts about the woman or man they are attracted to, little tidbits here and there that hint at what's going on after the "fade to black"...love it all! Connealy really captures the passion perfectly. Ilsa's journey is probably my favorite. Due to her isolation, she hasn't had the opportunities to learn about things most people take for granted. Her determination to keep learning and understanding, and Mitch's patience in teaching her, really made me think. I'm a teacher, and sometimes it is easy to get frustrated when my students (and now my own children who I'm doing homeschooling with during the quarantine) don't understand things easily. Taking a humble and patient approach is the best, and most effective, way. Appreciated how that was portrayed in this novel.

I loved this book and would also recommend the first book in the series, "Aiming for Love." Click here to see my review!

I love the unusual characters and circumstances in Mary Connealy's stories! The narrative and conversations are always laced with such humor! There are so many quotable passages it's difficult to not pick them all!

The Nordegren sisters' unique upbringing and circumstances made them appear quite eccentric to outsiders. Their fear of outsiders bringing in sickness. Their ability to blend into the wilderness like feral animals. Their ignorance of the ways of the world. Their misconception about just how many Bibles there are. . .

As the Brides of Hope Mountain series continues, Ilsa ends up getting a chance to see the world, following Mitch, under circumstances she hadn't expected, to cities and towns with more people she had ever dreamed possible. Her reactions were so funny, which seemed reasonable for a woman who had never seen more than four people in the same place in her life. Until the Wardens came to their valley.

I especially loved the way Mitch reacted to Ilsa's quirks. How he began to realize that he didn't want to change her, to mold her into a "proper" lady. He even got to the point of trusting her instincts and allowing her to use her abilities in ways that would have threatened many men.

Ilsa had the same struggles as Jo did in Aiming for Love related to their misconception that Aesop's Fables was "the other Bible". Mitch was appalled by this at the start and was not quiet in his correction. And yet he began to realize that his approach to correcting her wasn't exactly helping. I liked the method he finally ended up employing to help her see the truth.

I also loved that the name of Jesus was mentioned. So many of the Christian fiction stories I've read lately refer to God and Lord but few actually proclaim the beautiful name of my Savior. He was presented as the Good Shepherd who seeks the lost. And salvation was proclaimed. Yay!

One mystery presented in Aiming for Love was solved here, that of who it was that sought to have Mitch killed. The mystery regarding the man attempting to steal the Circle Dash ranch remains unsolved. Wax's was revealed a bit more, enticing me to want to read the next book in the series when it comes out. Which I hope is soon! I'm very curious to find out if my theory on something I think will happen is correct.

If you have not yet read, Aiming for Love, you'll want to read that first. The stories in this series build on one another. If you enjoy historical fiction, this is a series you won't want to skip!

Cute, fun, adventurous, book two in series.
We enjoy Mitch and Isla's story here. Isla is the family healer. Isla has never been off the mountain. She is shocked when gets to see Chicago. Circumstances require them to get married. Then they have a mystery to solve.
I would definitely read other book first.
Good read

Woman of Sunlight is a fascinating look at what happens when a complete innocent goes from seclusion to city life.

Isla has been isolated at the top of her mountain in Colorado for all her life. Until one day, Mitch returns from making his fortune, but has killers on his tail. After Isla saves him the pair head down to the small town below. Then fate steps in, and the pair are forced to marry.

Mitch never expected to find love like he feels for Isla. She’s a woman who dresses like Robin Hood and swings from trees like Tarzan. As he watched with amazement, Isla adapts quickly. She goes from terror at a train whistle to astonished by the amenities of a city the size of Chicago. Most impressively, however, is the way she saves his life several times.

The real question, is whether, when the killers are brought to justice and the true villain behind the attempt is unmasked, if the pair can risk their hearts on each other.

Woman of Sunlight is entertaining and intriguing with up-close glimpses at life in post-fire Chicago and on a secluded mountain in Colorado.

There's something rather poetic about reading a story about an isolated trio of sisters (who are just emerging from a quarantine themselves) while in isolation myself during the Corona Virus outbreak . . .

Ilsa might be ignorant after a life of extreme isolation, but she's not an idiot. The author strikes the right balance between innocence and maturity so that Ilsa is comedic in things she doesn't know, yet not awkwardly child-like in things a grown woman should understand. She also proves far more adaptable than her oldest sister, who is still living in true isolation in a high mountain valley, when Ilsa and Mitch end up heading to Chicago. Of all the Connealy books I've read, I think this one spends the most time in the city.

I realize this isn't precisely a mystery novel, but I was surprised to be surprised by the villain. I readily take things at face value (when not reading in the mystery genre, that is), and my assumption and back-up assumption for the villain turned out to be wrong. It's . . . actually enjoyable to to have that happen, especially when the villain makes sense, as this one does.

As the third book comes out this fall and Ursula ends her self-imposed isolation, may we also feel the delights of such freedom! I've found her the most intriguing of the three sisters, and based on the hints throughout these first two novels, Wax Mosby is proving the most fascinating of the heroes. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Thank you Bethany House and NetGalley for the complimentary e-book. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

I've been awaiting the second book in the Brides of Hope Mountain series. This one did not disappoint. Mary Connealy writes witty, romantic fiction in every novel she writes.

Ilsa Nordegren is a pixie-ish dynamo, picture a petite Scarlett Johansen with her mettle and defensive prowess as Black Widow. She pairs effortlessly with Mitch Warden who reminds me of another superhero whom I won't name. He's bold, yet caring, adventurous yet longs to be near his loving family. Aah, refreshing.

These characters, the unbridled suspense placed in this novel with the strong line of faith mixed in as well are a home run.

Another one's coming in this series, and I'll be impatiently waiting until it arrives : )

I received this book from the publisher but was under no obligation to write nor post a review.

Woman of Sunlight by Mary Connealy continues her Brides of Hope Mountain series with the focus on Ilsa Nordegren. The first installment of Ms. Connealy's series, Aiming for Love, shattered the Nordegren's world as they knew it, bringing in the Warden family and their troubles. To get a better backstory for this second book, I would definitely recommend reading Aiming for Love before picking up Woman of Sunlight.  Ilsa is the youngest of the Nordegren sisters whom have been sheltered from the rest of the 1870s western world by living in a cabin on the top of Hope Mountain in Colorado. Ilsa is naive in her knowledge of the rest of the world, but she has thrived in her life, learning the benefits of nature in exploring the outdoors as well as learning how to use herbs and natural products to help with sicknesses and healing.  However, Ilsa wants to explore the world and sees now as her only chance to see it.

Mitch Warden has recently returned to his family's homestead out west from his businesses and troubles out in New York. Mitch can't seem to put aside his arguments and verbal sparring with Ilsa, the lovely young woman, who seem as wild as the land she lives in, even though Ilsa had saved his life.  Mitch and his family have to deal with many dangers, but first need to reclaim their land and deal with the troublemakers trying to attack their family. The Warden's journey back to civilization leads to more risks and dangerous situations that leave the Nordegren sisters also tangled up in their mess. Mitch realizes that he has even more of a target on his back from his troubles out east, which leads to more danger and mystery.

I greatly enjoyed this sweet and captivating tale of Ms. Connealy (as I have enjoyed all of her other works). Ms. Connealy has a knack for weaving tales of faith, courage, and adventure with such heartfelt love, strong characters, and hilarious situations. Ilsa's character brought such joy, life, and freshness to the story, giving Mitch much annoyance and humor. I appreciated Ilsa's joy, love for the outdoors, her loyalty, and her fierce strength. I also appreciated Mitch's gentleness, strength, humility, and respect for his friends and family as well as his dedication to truth, justice, and faith. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Woman of Sunlight and I think it actually exceeded my expectations. I had enjoyed the first book of this series, but I think that this one was even better. I hope you get the chance to read Woman of Sunlight ...I know you'll enjoy it!

First, Woman of Sunlight definitely qualifies on all counts as one of the most funny light hearted books I’ve read in recent years.

Ilsa’s inner commentary is very funny, and her perspective makes you think. First, she’s suddenly around 1 family from down below, with their ranch hands. Then, they go down to the “BIG CITY” of Bucksnort. What’s she gonna think when they reach Denver, or Chicago?

I really appreciated her ability to trust Mitch’s leading in the wholly unfamiliar environment down below. She knows she’s out of her depth, and trusts him to a, not lose her, and b, keep her safe.

Mitch, too, learns to trust her instincts and skills as a mountain woman who’s been around predatory animals forever. He’s able to accept her ability to translate that skill to be used against the men hunting them. It doesn’t come easy for him, but he does. I can respect that.

Woman of Sunlight follows the youngest Nordegren sister as she leaves her mountain home for the first time. Ilsa and her two sisters lived alone on the mountain until the Warden family invaded their refuge. Book one, Aiming for Love, of the Brides of Hope Mountain series by Mary Connealy tells that story. The danger brought by the elder Warden brother in the first book continues in Woman of Sunlight. And once again, Ilsa and Mitch are most at risk for losing their lives.

I loved Ilsa’s character! At first this young woman with healing knowledge looks at the outside world with wide-eyed wonder. But it’s not just her innocence that gets her into trouble. It’s her brazen wildness that knows no fear, only freedom. She feels intensely and when those feelings are turned on Mitch, he is captured in her snare.

Mitch Warden isn’t the most likable character in Aiming for Love. However, as we see him grow both personally and in his feelings for Ilsa, we see a depth about him that makes him grow in esteem. He’s a strong character who is not afraid to match Ilsa’s wildness, even when it gets him into a situation for which he wasn’t prepared.

When I read the first book, Aiming for Love, I wished for a better story. However, the characters fascinated me enough that I wanted to see what became of them next. I’m so glad I did! Woman of Sunlight was much better than Aiming for Love. Perhaps Ilsa’s character swept me away. Perhaps this Chicagoland girl liked seeing a post-fire Chicago. Or perhaps the dynamic between Mitch and Ilsa made for great entertainment.

If you’re looking for an historical novel with unusual characters and a lot of danger, definitely check out Woman of Sunlight. I certainly enjoyed it.

Woman of Sunlight is the second book in Mary Connealy's Brides of Hope Mountain series and I am looking forward to the next one! Definitely could be read as a stand alone but reading the first book in the series, Aiming for Love, will add interest to the characters and more background information to the story. Connealy has a nice style of writing and kept my interest throughout the entire book. I was hooked from the beginning as the action starts right up and continues through the story, always keeping the reader wondering how in the world will things work out now. The characters are unique and likable. It was interesting to see the world of the 1870s from Ilsa's eyes. Ilsa is a young woman who has never been off the mountain and is now traveling to cities with tall buildings and lots of people. As she and Mitch, a man running from his past encounter one difficulty after another, think danger, suspense, and romance and you have a recipe for an entertaining story. Woman of Sunlight is a captivating tale of family and faith, courage and love. Readers who enjoy historical romance will not want to miss this story. I was given a complimentary copy of the book through Bethany House Publishers and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Let me preface this by saying that I didn't realize this book as a part of a series . . . but I read and understood it perfectly fine without reading the first book. Although, I did find the first one on my libraries reading app, and am fully expecting to read it in the *very* near future =)

This was my first taste of this author, and I absolutely loved the writing style and the storyline. The whole plot was intriguing: three girls, growing up on a remote mountain, away from civilization, and then they meet the Warden's, who bring them into their homes and hearts.

Ilse is the very independent sister, who "accidentally" marries Mitch Warden, because of this little thing called propriety -- which she understands nothing about. While Mitch is explaining what, exactly, propriety is, and why she can't be out alone at night -- and with him -- they are "caught". So this woman, who is more a child, or, as Mitch puts it, "a hawk", goes with a relative stranger to the big city, to help her new husband figure out who is trying to kill him and why.

I am very thankful to the publishers for the gift of the book to read! All opinions are my own.
Overall, this was a pretty humorous read. From the tree-climbing moments, to the vine-swinging escapades, to the mysterious killers, to the belching and groaning train, Ilse gets a taste for civilization, is told, repeatedly, that there are NOT two Bibles, and gets her first taste of cherry cobbler.

And yet, this book was so much more than just all this. It had an unexpected depth to it, and both Mitch and Ilse learn to work together and communicate and trust each other. They formed a beautiful team, and I enjoyed reading about it all.

I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, to find out what happens to the oldest sister, who seems to be the most eccentric of them all.

There were a few kisses, nothing too very passionate, and there were mentions, in Ilse's words, of "behaving like we're married", but nothing more. It was sweet and innocent, and it made my heart happy.

This is another entertaining story by Mary Connealy. There’s humor, adventure, and just a little bit of suspense all throughout this book. I don’t want to give anything away in the plot, because that would take away some of the fun of reading this book. I’m going to focus on the character of Ilsa, who is one of the most unusual heroines that I’ve met in a book. She’s at the heart of this story, and I think you will love her as much as I did.

Since Ilsa was raised on Hope Mountain and completely isolated from the rest of the world, she has quite a different view of life. She’s a child of the forest who climbs and swings through trees; is fearless when it comes to facing danger; and is an expert at using a knife. She fiercely loves her two sisters who have raised her. When the Warden family comes to their place on the mountain to build a ranch, she’s fascinated by their ways and has no context for some of the things they tell her. The scene when Ilsa sees a train for the first time is funny and touching. Going to Chicago is a shock to her, and although she does find that she loves chocolate cake, her naïveté leads her into some awkward situations. As she grows to love Mitch, she becomes a valuable partner to him in solving a crime.

Fans of Mary Connealy’s books will love this one, and it may be her best yet. This is a clean and sweet Christian historical novel that will have you cheering for Ilsa to find her place to belong.

I haven’t read the first book, Aiming for Love, so it took a few chapters to grasp what was happening in this novel.

Woman of Sunlight starts amusingly with Mitch Warden trying to get Ilsa Nordgren to rest even though she is recovered from chickenpox. She is upset with him for spreading the chickenpox to her when he returned to his family. The Wardens were Ilsa’s nearest neighbors but had been driven out of their home so were staying with Ilsa when Mitch returned home.

As they moved along, Mitch looked at her speckled face and said, “I’m really sorry I gave you my chickenpox.” His already-tight hold squeezed a bit more. “Really sorry, Ilsa. I had no idea I’d been near anyone who was sick, but then maybe they showed no symptoms. I probably gave it to you before I knew I had it.”

“My grandma always made Grandpa stay away when he’d gone to town.”

“That’s called a quarantine. It’s usually only called for when a disease is identified, not every time someone has been near another person.”

Her grandfather chose to use herbs for his health instead of being afraid and taught Ilsa how to wisely use herbs too.

When hired gunmen come up the mountains to kill Mitch, Ilsa swoops down from the trees Tarzan-style to help Mitch fight them off. They find the name of Mitch’s old partner who eloped with Mitch’s intended in the pocket of the gunman who died in the shootout. Mitch suspects his old partner is the one who has been trying to kill him so he can get Mitch’s millions. He realizes he won’t ever be safe even in the near wilds of Bucksnort, Tennessee.

The Wardens and Ilsa go to town to tell the sheriff what happened and deliver the gunmen to him. Unfortunately, the trip does not turn out quite as expected. Mitch and Ilsa suddenly are married but not for the reason you may be assuming. Even though she finds Mitch attractive, Ilsa feels the necessity to get to know him before having an intimate relationship.

I enjoyed seeing their friendship change to love. She had very little knowledge of social customs which was difficult for her new husband at times. Mitch works on learning to accept her as she is and avoids trying to ‘fix’ her.

The newly married couple set off on a several days journey to hire the Pinkerton Agency. The repeated attempts on Mitch’s life needed to be stopped or none of Mitch’s loved ones would ever be safe!

Mitch and Ilsa are shot at again in Chicago. He wonders if there is a double agent in the Pinkertons who is sharing his location with his enemies. The final scenes where the killer is identified were unusual. I liked how thoroughly this plot line was developed.

Why Ilsa’s older sister Ursula was alone at the top of the mountain was unclear until the last third of the book. I was sad for Ursula and that her terror of illness was making her so depressed. Hopefully she will be healed of this fear in the next book.

A couple scenes mildly exasperated me but I really loved the amusing scenes in this clean romance. I was once again impressed that God had inspired another author to include a quarantinable disease in her book at this time!

If you are afraid because of the recent pandemic, consider reading this clean romance. It takes courage for all of us to go through any disease. Ilsa finds that living an unsheltered life is much easier than she thought. Woman of Sunlight is a reminder that God never forsakes us.

I received a free advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions are completely my own.

I loved Mary Connealy's second installment from her Brides of Hope Mountain, Woman of Sunlight. It is exactly what I expect out of her books. So fun and entertaining. Five plus stars.

This is book two in the Brides of Hope Mountain series. You could read it as a stand alone, however I feel you will be a little lost if you don't start with book one, Aiming for Love, first. Both books are great so you are in for a good read. I love the humor, spunk, sparks and writing style of Mary Connelly.

Ilsa Nordegren and her sisters have lived in complete isolation, so when the Warden family enter their world, so many new feelings and adventures are in store. Mitch Warden and Ilsa have a lot to learn about each other and maybe themselves. This historic romance is full of drama, mystery, comedy and of course romance. I can't wait to read book three in this series.

Mary Connealy gives yet another amazing book. Can be read as a stand-alone or with the series. This is a historical Christian fiction book.

An ex-businessman collides with a feral wild woman and their two worlds are shaken.
These characters find themselves in a heap of trouble that is often humorously told. An innocent misunderstanding forced them to pursue a future together and track down the person responsible for the assassination attempts on Mitch’s life. Things aren’t always what they seem and danger is always lurking. Ilsa is entranced by everything new she sees and discovers in the big city of Chicago, but nothing compares to the feelings Mitch awakens in her.
Will they live long enough to pursue their feelings and return to the safety of the mountains?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next in the series.
I was given this copy through NetGalley ti review in exchange for my honest opinions.

Mary Connealy has done it again! This book is wonderful. Ilsa loves her mountains, but longs to see more of the world. She and Mitch end up navigating dangerous situations as partners and learn to trust one another. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this book. I can't wait until her next installment in the series!

What a lovely story!

The cover model’s hair color is completely wrong. The leading lady, who has Norwegian genes, has dark-blonde hair, but the model’s is clearly dark brown. This always irritates me.

The plot was wonderful. I loved that there was a road trip. More than that, I enjoyed that Ilsa was naïve about the ways of the world and that she had a goal of learning better how to read people’s expressions. She was delightful!

I liked that Josephine returned and realized that the sisters’ book of fables was not a “second Bible,” as they’d been raised to believe.

I’m so happy this story was about Mitch and Ilsa! They were so adorable in book one, and I had hoped very much that they’d be the stars of book two. This story was exactly what I would have hoped for the two of them.

It was wonderful that Wax was back. I liked that the main antagonist from book one carried over to book two. It’s a series! Too many “series” these days are marketed as a “series that stands alone.” Isn’t that an oxymoron? It drives me batty. I grew up reading series that were all interconnected and built from book to book. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to “standalone series.”

Ooooh! I’m so excited we got a few peeks into Ursula’s point of view. I’m so eager to read her story next!

Her Secret Song
I have been looking forward to Ursula’s book so much. I feel a kinship with her, being the oldest, responsible one of my family, and also struggling with anxiety issues most of my life. Mary Connealy didn’t disappoint! Her Secret Song is filled with beautiful settings, laugh out loud, humor, quirky historical details, and is full of heart. The reader will be cheering for Ursula and Jake to find true love, and for both to be able to move on from their pasts and forward together. I loved the characterization, like Ursula’s singing! The action in this book was amazing too, and my only complaint is that I wanted the book to go on longer! I enjoyed the ending where many details from the other books where wrapped up, including the big mystery of the series. I also loved the glimpse into the future of the sisters and their children! It was so satisfying!
