The story starts straight from the beginning and carries all the way to the end. Easy to get immersed into the characters while being taken back to the sixties. Good easy reading.

If you like romance and intrigue this will be your cup of tea. A remarkable first novel which takes us back to 1965, when even the Hero had to walk to a telephone box to keep in touch with HQ. I could hardly wait to find out the final plot-twist. A truly memorable story.

Both a love story (or two love stories) and a thriller. Keeps you guessing right until the end. I found it very easy to read and raced through it eager to find out the ending. Looking forward to her next book.

A great first book, enough romance for the girls and plenty of intrigue for the boys. I was left wanting more

I look forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner of a novel that will hook you from the start.

What a brilliant book. Completely new author for me but I was hooked from the first page by a storyline featuring not one but two love affairs; underlying menace from one of the main protagonists; mystery and intrigue of an unsolved historical subterfuge. So many elements elaborately stitched together to create a real page turner of an adventure. Thought I had worked out the denouement fairly early on in the piece but Clifford-Nixon had yet another surprise up her sleeve. Clever and imaginative storytelling throughout left me wanting more so disappointed that it had to come to an end. Cannot wait for the follow up novel as I’m sure the author has more ingenuity to come. Thank you Molly for a super read. I shall be tracking down your short story collection.

I am reviewing a copy of The Burden of Guilt in through BooksGoSocil and Netgalley:

Jules and Charolette are thrown together unexpectedly through the European Fraud Prevention Office in 1965. They have seen one another since their break-up, will they survive the emotional turmoil of regret, guilt and hope that ensues?

What is the secret Charlotte believes will destroy the love Jules still has for her? In contrast, his superior, Smythe, embarks on a journey of love he had thought impossible.

Their relationships unfold against the backdrop of an investigation prompted by Smythe’s distrust of Fawkes, the new Head of the EFPO. Why does Fawkes want a file on ‘The Monument Men’ archived?

What happened to Charlotte’s father? Did he really steal artifacts during the Second World War.

What connects the 1936 Berlin Olympics with a ship bound for Gloucester docks?

I give The Burden of Guilt five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

The reunion of two lovers after a breakup years ago due to unforeseen circumstances. Charlotte has a secret she has kept from Jules. I enjoyed this one, as it was a great read.

Love and mystery and the European Fraud Prevention Office? It’s an odd premise but stick with it - this book offers a great, tangled mystery with a romance to boot! The characters are really engaging and the complex interconnections over time add to the sense of intrigue.
