I want to say thank you from the bottom of my children's hearts and my own to the author, the publisher, and netgalley for allowing us the privilege of being able to arc read this book. We really appreciate it!
I loved this book, and my kids really enjoyed it too. I had requested to read this book, because the topic is something my oldest son is going through right now and I though from a books perspective it might help. I think it did. Both of my boys thought this book was fun and they loved the pictures. I loved all of it, books of this topic can be hit or miss, but not here, not one bit. The pictures provide the perfect comedic relief to help try and relax a worried mind to help focus on the story and they do it so well! The story is a little quick, but that works because the focus isn't suppose to be on the worry it's suppose to be on the helping them go away, and it does that really well with showing many different ways to help redirect one's mind. This would honestly despite being a picture book be fantastic for any age, adults included, especially with the very well thought out and unique tips and tricks included in the back of the book. My kids enjoyed this so much and I really loved it! I can't wait until we can bring it home.
Thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts again for allowing us the absolute privilege of being able to read this book. We loved it and I can't wait to bring it home!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The story is well developed which helps really get the message about worrying across and the rhyming element makes it fun for kids. There are some great coping strategies for anxious young minds written in June’s list, this might help them actually listen to the advice more than if an adult just tells them. It’s great that there is a conversation guide for caregivers to use with their child provided as it helps foster open communication and encourage them to go to parents, as like June said talking to an adult can help. Finally, I thought that the last page is an amazing lasting message to leave the children with.
Don’t Feed the Worrysaurus! is such a sweet and meaningful story about a girl named June who learns to face her fears when a worry-eating dinosaur shows up in her room. The rhymes are fun, the illustrations are colorful, and the message about calming worries with laughter, lists, and imagination really sticks. I especially enjoyed how the story made anxiety feel approachable for kids without being heavy—it’s the kind of book you want to read aloud again and again because it leaves both grown-ups and children smiling.
Warning: reading may cause unstoppable smiles (and a shrunken Worrysaurus).
This book gobbles up big kid worries and spits them out as giggles, making storytime a total blast! 🦖✨
"Big message within cute and dreamy settings"
As an adult, i sometimes found myself getting swamped by adulting stuffs. And whenever i wanna escape from it, i just let myself sink in children's fiction. It is short, lighthearted yet contain powerful message and tips for handling stuffs. And in this book, the author helps us tackle our worries by not fretting too much on it and start to 'help' your worrysaurus shrink. I like how helpful the tips given here. Indeed a fun and educative story!
Thank you netgalley for this advanced reader's copy❤️
If he's the worrysaurus, why is he friend shaped?
In all seriousness this was a great book with really cute art. As a girl that lives with anxiety myself, I think it's really sweet to have a book to kids to address those big feelings. Especially with the information at the end to help parents? Super great and super healthy to address mental health early.
Thank you for the early read!
Don't Feed the Worrysaurus, written by L.S. Smith, features out main character June who sometimes lets worries get the better of her. It can be hard for her not to worry, she has worries of different sizes! But one night she meets the Worrysaurus, who grows when she frets, but shrinks when she helps. She is able to think of different calming techniques, and is able to remember how to use them when she needs. This book also includes a great conversation guide that can be used to help children with their own worries. I can see this as being very beneficial for kiddos with worries or anxiety, or helping them to understand others who do have those.
Thank You to NetGalley and to the author, publisher, and illustrator of this book for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
⚡ Chomp chomp—this book totally ate up my heart! Watching June tackle her giant, goofy Worrysaurus with silly dances, deep breaths, and giggles made me want to bust out my own chicken dance right there. The rhymes bounce, the story zips, and kids will totally “get” that they don’t have to let worry boss them around. Parents—seriously, read this with your little ones. It’s fun, it’s fearless, and it turns big scary feelings into belly laughs. 🦖✨
